I don't think we need any more evidence that Tom shouldn't be seen within 50 metres of the backline, so hopefully he finds a new home this afternoon.

Mahoney just said on sen that Tom will be our back up ruckman.  This suggests we won't be taking Phillips (Ess variety).

Little thing called the 'twos' Riley.

I think the biggest thing will be him getting his body right. If he does, there is no reason he can't be our best forward. If he doesn't, I struggle to see him down back or up forward.

If TMac can get fit again and find some form he is a very good player - lets hope that he do that for everyone's sake

Lets not forget that in any given week its probably unlikely that all of May, Petty, Weideman, BBB, LJ, Lever etc will all be fit and in form

We do need to have back ups that are solid and TMac hopefully can fill that role (or better)

I would imagine Mitch Brown might be on the way out as Tom is staying.

I am happy if he stays and plays down back as needed. Of course no one cares if I am happy.

The club did the right thing looking for a trade but I never thought TMac would find a new home given his contract and the way the game has moved away from key position players.

TMac was out of form early in the year and looked to be gradually finding some form against the Tigers and Gold Coast before the eye injury. If he can get some agility back, he can be a good player again, particularly with longer quarters. At worst, he provides a very flexible back up at either end or in the ruck.

Quite happy for T Mac to remain at our club.

If he can shed the kgs, then I think he still has plenty to offer.

Personally, I don't get the benifit of us paying several hundred grand a year for someone else to be getting a solid mature player, while we'd still be paying an additional few hundred grand for any sort of backup worth having.

T Mac's versatility is a big plus he has going for him IMHO.  Can do a respectable job up forward, down back or in the ruck.  If Max gets injured, I don't want us to have to be in a position of flogging the guts out of Jackson if his body isn't quite there.  Conversely, I'd be quite comfortable with rotating Brown, Jackson and T Mac through as ruck/forwards.  Actually thought T Mac was starting to find form as a forward and clunk some good big strong marks before he got his eye poked out of its socket earlier this season.

If Steve May goes down, we still need a player capable of taking on the gorilla forwards.  Not so worried about his previous weaknesses woth disposal comming out of defense.  It's true that he was pretty hit and miss by foot at that time, but we were a side under siege in those days without the same quality of players around him.

Beyond all, I do like the sentiment of T Mac finishing in Red and Blue.  He's been with us, copped pleanty through some pretty lean times and think he deserves some respect and an oppertunity to share in any success that we might have in the next two or three years.

wow really  that's a great call. Cant jump cant turn cant mark cant kick cant bend over. And the club demonstrably doesnt want him!

Should really add some value to the team.

For $700k TMAC is bloody expensive backup.

Could have been alot worse, could be in Collingwood's shoes.?????

It's not the end of the world guys and girls, i hope this sparks a fire from within for Tmac.

He's just going to have to wait for his opportunity to shine.

The Big D wanted our centre line players and 2 first picks in draft in exchange.

Big D indeed @old dee. Might need to add a H on the end as well

Sounds like Tom will be the new Cameron Pedersen, will play where/if required.

Comparing TMAC’s output compared with Treloar’s, I’d say we just about are.

My heart says Burgess gets TMac back in shape and firing on all cyclinders. 2018 all over again. Wouldn’t it be something.

My head says a year at Casey and a payout in 2022.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
