Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

TMac on the Trade Table?

Interesting situation.

TMac would be a proud bloke and probably extremely upset and embarrassed by the situation. It's one thing to think you're not being used properly by the coach or the game plan is stupid or you are far better than your output might indicate but when the whole football world doesn't rate you it would be a harsh / bitter pill to swallow. It is definately not the way he would like to end his career.

He has one chance now to work his butt off and get back into the top 22 and contribute and earn not only his salary but the respect of his peers and the wider football world. The danger for the club is having a sad sack roaming the coridoors and bringing the standards and feeling of success down. Its hard to ask a player to put their body on the line when theres a bloke on the sidelines earning a shirtload and contributing nothing. One of the first things Roos did when he arrived at the club was demand the biggest contribution from the clubs highest paid players. Same with Harmes. No use on the sidelines. Just creates unrest.

In fact it may be cancerous. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't paid out. The club must give these players a role or get rid of them, nothing else can work. They must contribute.

Needs to do the right thing by the club and take a massive pay cut.    Hes worth about 70k a year at the most.

He needs to work with Darren Burgess right through Summer

We need to get him right, not give up

Crap defender? Bloody nonsense. He was third and 5th in our B and F as a key defender. A weakness in short passing out of defence but an excellent defender otherwise . Did much more for us in defence than Lever has done  thus far

sorry mate. its true. I dont care about bnf finishes, theres a reason he was moved forward.

Highly paid under-performers are terrible for team morale for exactly the reasons you mentioned.

I think its wishful thinking on our part to think he’ll return to full fitness and 2018 form. Burgo had him for a year already and it hasn’t made any difference. We have to move him on somehow. Probably not pay him out yet (he’s still depth for emergencies) but if he’s not traded this year then he’ll definitely be paid out for 2022.

SEN reporting that Ess have made an approach.    Reportedly we are prepared to pay more of TMac's salary than GCS are of Wright's.

Sam Edmund said the TMac move could just be a ploy to get Wright from GCS on the cheap.  Ess had offered GCS a future 4th round pick for Wright so can't imagine we would get much more.

But at least we would have the list spot and some sal cap relief.

Can't say I trust Ess and they have had plenty of time to make a move so wouldn't get too excited.

Pies have said they won't be 'going down that path' of taking TMac.

But they have Cox on the table (Sydney have some interest) so terribly short of tall fwds. They are chasing Gunston but it sounds like it will be hard to pry him out of Hawks.

It seems mfc will pay a fair chunk of his salary so wonder when the deadline is close and Pies are short of talls if they will take him.

Can't say I agree.

We re-contracted Tom in 2018, his FA year when several clubs were pretty keen on him.  So the club had to go some way to meeting the market so I'm not overly critical of the $, especially if it was part of a back-ended deal (not saying it was).

What concerned me more was the 4 years (apparently without triggers) knowing that he missed the first part of 2018 after double ankle surgery and had subsequently injured his toe.

I would imagine any club getting a player from another club has to offer 2-3 years at least. So the period is not the problem.

If it is the $700k, we could possibly pay $100k of that this year and maybe the next.

Surely you would be offering a big key forward like Tom, $500-$600k a year, if you wanted him to join your club.

The real question might be do other clubs want him anyway.

If not, we get him fit and try and get the best out of him and look at moving on a couple of fringe players, like AVB and ANB, to save cap room.

Not sure what Mitch Brown's position is, but if Tom stays he could be at risk. Brown actually played well enough to get another year with us.

The cap is affecting a lot of players this year, as deals are getting harder to do, even though with list sizes smaller say by 2 next year, unless the cap has been reduced, there should be a bit more to spread around.

This could be a period of adjustment on contracts coming up.

How do clubs trade players when they don’t even know the size of the list or pay cap for 2021. Are the AFL back in Melbourne or still on  holiday in QLD. Silence from the AFL is deafening.

The only way we get a decent return for TMac is paying at least a quarter of his annual salary. Hindsight of course but the FD got way too excited about the 2018 season with both the length and $$$ offered prior to the 2019 season. 4 years at that cost is silly regardless of how well he played that one year. Same applies to the Goodwin contract.

If the club had offered Tom anything less than 4 years at 700k I'd imagine he would've asked for a trade back then. So at the same time as we were rightly getting Hogan out of the club we would've been left without any proven key forward options. I can't remember anyone on here saying we should've done that. It's just a reality that guys lose form and fitness and now that the contract numbers are so high it looks bad.

I don't think it's a matter of 100 or 200k, I think it might be up to 350k we need to pay of Tom's wage per year and that's fine by me.

550k is apparently what we have offered Ben Brown. A player we still think is good and want to bring in. Tom's value is far less than that. Any team bringing him in is doing so for insurance depth or experience with the possibility of trying him in different roles.

Mitch Brown - the quicker we walk away from that cat the better. Got dropped twice and played 1 decent game chasing chest marks on the wing. Complete waste of a list spot the moment we bring in Ben Brown.

yeah tom McDonald is realistically worth 300k. 350k max.  he was just that bad and i hope its a reminder that if you're going to dish up that trash then theres no second chances.

Dees should be keeping TMac. I think it will be a regretful mistake if he moves on. Slimmed down he can get back to his best...! Back him in Melbourne.

It’s not like we are going to come out with a top 10 pick for him.

He is versatile, can play forward, back, push up onto the wing and pinch hit in the ruck...!

I believe moving players on especially in contract is a club that is ordinary at developing players and mismanagement...!

The guy used to be the elite runner at the club.  Can mark and field kick.  Can defend and attack.  I would trim him back down and give him a wing.  If he wants to own it, it would be the Tomlinson role we tried to fill last year.

Are you seriously suggesting that Tom could play wing in 2021? Wow!

Clubs are going to start getting wary of these big multi year deals again committing a lot of the TPP to one player - they fell out of favour for a while I recall but with free agency swinging the power balance back to the players have been back in vogue.

Stuffing it up has long term consequences for the health of your list as we are seeing with TMac and just look at the Pies with the Treloar situation.

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
