If you think pick 7 is ridiculous, there were rumours last year that Sydney offered pick 5 in last year's draft and their first round 2020 pick, which has turned out to be pick 3 this year.

They won't get pick 7 this year if Brisbane's contract is middling, which it might be salary-wise given the injury risk.

Sure. Essendrug dug in last year, believing they would improve. They haven’t and Danniher is damaged goods

I will be fascinated with the final deal

If Fantasia, Daniher and Saad go, then with compensation picks and traded picks , you can guarantee that our first pick (23) has dropped further.

This is exactly why we traded out of this draft to get Pickett last year.

History may show that the Pickett trade was a  stroke of genius. It's going to be a fascinating comprised draft period with the addition of what appears quite a number of 1st round compensation picks. Additionally I would hate to be a player recruiter trying to spot the best players available  in this Co-Vid affected year. Seems to me its going to be the equivalent of a chook raffle. Hopefully we can orchestrate some quality picks/trade again this year.

I have no love for Essendon but I wouldn't say they are imploding, Jon Ralph reporting they will get pick 7 for Daniher (free agency), and they could potentially squeeze what is currently pick 7 out of Carlton for Saad. They will lose Fantasia as well and go to the draft with at worst 3 first round picks. Essendon were stuck in mediocrity for years and will go through a mini rebuild now to fix their problems, we could be stuck in the same situation in a year or 2 if we don't make drastic improvement as Gawn and May keep getting older.

There is absolutely no chance they get pick 7 for Saad.  Take it to the bank

I would love to see them match for Daniher. Clearly doesn’t want anything to do with that dank place and yet they’re still potentially playing hardball. Shoot your self in the foot Ess.

Read Sydney has really gone cold on the deal from last year.  Interesting to see where he ends up.

The media is already cranking up the Make Essendon Great Again machine. Sickening.

Nah Don's don't have a problem, just ask their CEO, he thinks there is no  big problem with the culture of his club. I was just over at bomerbliz, they say their guy dodo only draft  skinny light players, sound familiar.

They may have lots of top 10 picks but as we (and Carlt, Bris, GCS, etc) know only too well without the culture, administration and coaching they don't amount to much and you can still wallow at the bottom of the ladder.

They are in denial.  Their GM Football claiming the players leaving have a problem rather than the club have a problem.  Too arrogant to admit their 'glorious' club can do wrong.

Its all karma for their drug cheating years.  They have earnt their stint at the bottom of the ladder.  Hope they enjoy it for a long time to come!

I'm sure the AFL 'FA special herbs and spices' formula will guarantee pick 7 for Daniher.

And I bet they still get a favourable fixture next year in terms of easier teams, time slots, FTA etc just as Carlton did over recent years to make them Great Again!

Yes, all very sickening and very rigged.

Still, I hope we get our act together next year and leave them all behind in our wake!!

They need a good coach like James Hird.

That may well be the answer - even if it is an amusing one.

At least they will have the opportunity to make a fresh start with a new coach and some good young talent. Don’t think they will necessarily go backwards next year.

We could do with a fresh start that concentrates on both a football skilling and onfield development emphasis, obviously through a revamped FD ably led by a new Head Coach with advisors / roles of choice.

Hatred of the bombers. That's what Melbourne supporters have got in spades.......as well as wit, charm, a great sense of humour and stoicism. And in my case, enough single malt whiskey to get me through the football season.

My most hated team by the length of flemington straight. I was at the GF in 2000.

Essendon most arrogant supporters in the league. Starting to worry about Carlton becoming great again.

Wouldn't jump up and down about this too much. This could be us next year if we don't make the 8.

All the more reason to enjoy the karma now.

Contrary to most on here I don’t mind the Blues. I grew up in Bendigo which was there zone. The teams I dislike the most are Adelaide and then Essendon. If you had been to a windy hill game when they played there you would hate them. Feral supporters that make the Pies look good. I see Robo in the Hun this morning suggesting it might be time for Hird to return. How can anyone suggest that the drug cheat coach should ever be back at a club. It beggars belief.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
