Justice for STEVEN!

A total of 15 sides have been represented in the 40-man squad, with Adelaide, Gold Coast and North Melbourne the only teams not to have a single player named.

Gawn and Nic Naitanui are vying for the ruck position, with dual All-Australian ruckman Brodie Grundy and Kangaroos veteran Todd Goldstein both controversially left out of the squad.

Melbourne defender Steven May, Essendon speedster Adam Saad, Sydney midfielder Luke Parker and Gold Coast backman Sam Collins are also notable absentees from the 40-man group.

  • roy11 changed the title to 40 Man All-Australian Squad Named (Gawn, Oliver and Petracca...NO MAY)

No May? Laughable really. He - or Trac - will win our B&F.

How did May not get a gig?  A disgrace.

Has to be a joke. Oh sorry, I forgot that the AFL is a joke.

Lots of competition for that FB spot.

Glad that Oliver's season has been recognised.

As for Max, shows you the bar is low for ruckmen and the field is smaller. No way was he in the top 2 rucks.

Robbery

Disgrace

Absolute farce. Even if Maysie didn’t make the final team, he is clearly good enough for the squad. I call bullish!t

If Gawn is deemed as top 40 material, May should be an automatic starting 18.

Disgraceful he is not even in the 40 man squad.

I like that Oliver is recognised because I think he really grew this year. He looked to kick more, struggled at first then realised he needed to use his pace to gain space to kick (whereas handballs out of packs happen immediately). He made this change while still being one of the most prolific midfielders and best tacklers in the game.

Also I think he is criminally underrated by the umpires and gets a raw deal, getting in this squad does seem to help that.

How many times did commentators call him the all Australian full back?

Not even in the squad???

pathetic really

Actually thought he is the best backman in the league. So to not make the 40 is hard to believe. I suppose they had to make room for Cam Guthrie.

  • Demonland changed the title to 40 Man All-Australian Squad

Weitering had a great performance in round 1 and carried that hype for an entire season. May was significantly better than him and Collins probably was too. Darcy Moore in a similar situation. Had multiple bad games through the middle of the year that the selectors are happily ignoring.

Very strange non-selection. They're on par with our match committee.

Absolutely no contest between May and Weitering and Moore.  A total farce. To be frank, May deserved a spot moreso than Max.

NO S May in the 40 man squad  impossible !  not to be selected  it is a shame.  Gut wrenching.!

Could this be the best Full back  of 2020  IMO not to make the AA 40 man squad?   You Bet Yah !   Can not believe it.

May not making the squad is a bit silly. Didn't expect him to make the final 22, but to not make the squad is wrong. I can pick out 5-10 players in that squad he's had a better season than.

I expect Petracca be our only player in the final AA 22. Oliver not good enough. Gawn borderline but missed a few games with injury.

Friggen Wheet Bix instead of May... OUTRAGEOUS

May clearly very stiff.

I don't think Langdon would have been an unfair selection either to be honest.

Surprised Max and Clarry got a gig. Shocked May did not

Would've given him a go regardless of position played

Crazy thinking

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
