This sums up the culture and attitude of the MFC that has held us back for years. Finals on the line and they are messing about like under 12’s. Complete lack of respect for Goody and for what is at stake.

Essendon applied almost zero pressure all game and somehow we almost threw the game away. Now we see why.

What other team do you see not paying attention in such a big game?

Exactly spot on & unfortunately perceptions are created & one questions is this the core of the reasons why they drop games? Do they get ahead of themselves? Certainly looked that way @ 3/4 time, imagine if they were chasing %?? Understanding players are not robots but clowning around @ coach address on the field sends a poor message. Viney was pinched and would have been great for the leaders to have addressed this on the ground as VC along with Gawn!

We only see one part of the evidence.  The cameras are not on the other side, are they?

If there are more doings in the huddle then no wonder the concentration and listening to Goody is not getting through to most in  the team they have the minds on something else.

What the  ?  Do we need this   ?      Do it at you own time............ That is your secret  and keep it to yourselves.

It’s actually quite pathetic! Especially as it has been an issue and talked about in the AFL in recent weeks...! MFC should be so so dirty on this.

These actions can be very very costly to the player (delisted) and the club!

The young one’s! Either on the PlayStation or fingering mates bums! Sick! ??

I wonder what goes on at training! ?

No one cared the first time, no one cares this time. It’s been going on forever and everyone knows this is the case. Young men think all kinds of stupid [censored] is funny. That will never change. Its just something to fill five minutes for media segments.

Well done Gawny.

Yes, well done for telling them off for being silly.

But he failed to mention fooling around during the coaches address in a critical game.

I know which of the two peeves me off more...

Here are two possibilities . . .

  1. Christian (ironic name in these circumstances) might be enjoying it (he had a good last quarter), and
  2. Maybe they are in a sexual relationship and doing what many supposedly 'normal' couples do who love each other.

And with respect to them not paying complete attention to the coach, there are at least two further possibilities:

  1. Maybe they can do two things at once, and
  2. I stopped listening to Goodwin 12 months ago . . . imagine what the poor players are going through?

Mitch Brown can't even keep a straight face listening to him.

Anyway, as the old joke goes about two astrophysicists discussing black holes . . . one tells the other:

"We need to understand the gravity of this matter".

After 6 months of Covid restrictions, I wouldn’t mind some inappropriate touching

There ypung blokes.

Before I get shouted down, can most of us those who are older and wiser think of the things we have done.

We have had the luxury of not being under the spotlight.

Im not condoning it , just sayn. They still need to be more professional.

Its also annoying that doing it when the coach is speaking.

Its not like the game was wrapped up.

After the 2 losess to swans and freo, they should have All pulled their fingers out.

Definately No pun intended.

I taught Trade for about 3 years, to  pre-apprentices, a wander around the room to look at their notes I would invariable find a student, drawing penis's on his workbook, for some reason it's just what they do.

That could’ve been done behind closed doors. Only adding that to the media would only increase negative media attention. I’m sure Goodwin would’ve pulled them aside and had a nice chat about it.

It’s not inappropriate touching, as Christian encouraged it further. So it’s actually called ‘touching’.

Consent means everything. This is a nothing story.

And we wonder why most footballers seem like robots - it’s because everything else causes a bunch of do-nothing journos to write garbage.

Is that prior opportunity?

Thank Lucifer he wasn't caught holding the ball!

Good to see Gawn setting the standards and saying it’s not professional but I also do think this is an overblown story, especially as I said earlier in the thread that the Georgie Parker was given a pass of hers based off it being consensual.

It’s in the spotlight because of the Richmond dumb dumbs, any other time we’d be laughing about it with Jayden and Christian.

I think this reinforces the point I've been making about our core players still being mentally immature (and unfortunately not all that bright) - with Oliver, Harmes and Brayshaw also among others on that list. They still behave like boys together. But for the most part Petracca's increased maturity has been evident this season and the effect on-field has been plain to see, and I think Oliver is beginning to mature as well. When they all transition to being professional adult footballers we'll see our fortunes turn. Anyway, the club got the response right so let's move on.

I was more annoyed that it happened at 3/4 time when goody was addressing the team. I mean seriously why would you think that would be appropriate.

Can't people just keep there hands to themselves? If this happened in any other workplace that person would be in a bit of trouble.

There's something a bit banjos about Hunty, but good on him.

I don't mind the blokes mucking around and having a laugh when there are no cameras around.

But during game day they need to be more professional. Especially as Essendon gave us a scare and we could of dropped that game. In the end we sadly miss the finals regardless.

I should note that in my opinion Harley Bennell has made the bigger stuff up  wanting to go off and get drinks at the pub. That's far more disgraceful and Harley should be made to pay a fair portion of the $50,000 fine. We can simply not afford massive fines like that! Any regular person with a regular job would get sacked.

Spot on Super, when I woke this morning and saw this, I just cringed. At 3/4 time while you're being spoken to by the coach, to think that this sort of action is acceptable...

AFL journalism is infested with simpletons: we know that. But the players involved were stupid, especially Hunt who instigated it (while the coach was addressing the players). Looked terrible, all round.

The thing I find intriguing is that it's almost the same as the relationship between Stoinis and Zampa in the cricket (which draws little to no attention), and the weird fact that they even look similar.

I always thought that close contact male oriented sports were originally a homo-erotic concept anyway (look at greco roman wrestling - you don't need to be a genius to see where they got the idea for the "squeal like a pig" scene in Deliverance)... I would love to have gotten Sigmund's thoughts on rugby league.

We have a reputation for being ‘gettable’ when we’re in the lead and these two blokes aren’t switched on at 3/4 time. I don’t care what they were doing, I care more about the fact they are anything-but focused on the task ahead of them for the next 20mins.

Interesting off-season for Max - he needs to figure out how to remain popular but implement an environment where absolute focus on all areas of success is guaranteed. I would say ‘interesting offseason for Goody’ but I don’t think he has any hope of meaningfully changing much in that place anymore.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
