Well that's slightly disappointing... but there are other fish for us to potentially catch in the AFL sea.

Plenty to still play out.

I'm somewhat relieved, a 3-years contract was too long.

Geelong's version of 'brown paper bags' at it again!

Glad we didn't keep throwing more money at him.

If he's chosen Geelong, I'll only be disappointed at that news if we end up failing to bring in anyone for the wing.

If we get Phillips or anyone else, then it's all good.

As to the Doctor: the issue I have is not that he passed on news that we were in the box seat for Smith, but that he passed on news that he'd already signed (the Doctor was adamant it had happened). If he's going to Geelong, clearly the Doctor's mail on Smith was incorrect. Does that mean the rest of his mail is also incorrect? Only time will tell.

Bugger him, if he wants to join a GF team, after already winning three, and not a having the spirit or drive to help us become a premiership team, then personally, I don't want him. Good luck, but 'jog on'!

Where are you Dr Evil?

Operation Tom Phillips.

Sliding doors by barrett just said Tom Phillips, we may be chasing him?

I would have liked him.

But I am not losing sleep that he's not coming. 3 years was probably a tad stretch, but our attention should be now turned to Phillips from Collingwood.

@Dr evil's mail wasnt any different from the rest of insiders here and in the AFL as well. When Dr Evil posted it originally it was early and good intel. And we saw it play out in the media that the "Cats came late" and that "Hawthorn upped their offer". Yes, the double down was probably too much, but I'm happy for him to keep those insider tips coming!

Exactly - Phillips and Polec are still out there - there is no shortage of left-footed wingmen this year and as long as we get 1, we walk out a better side than we were in 2020.

Oskar Baker pleased by this.

There's no need to burn him at a stake. It's not a witch hunt. He obviously has some sort of intel and it's not like he is throwing random names out there with zero credibility. People have emotions and opinions that change by the day. Nothing is certain until someone signs. If you want to hear about only certainties I suggest you follow the trade tracker page on the afl website.

At that point Dr Evil probably heard that Isaac Smith was going to sign. Situations evolved and he changed his mind. I appreciate people like him providing rumours that they have heard as I don't have any connections.

What you are doing is creating witch hunt because of some detail that turned out not to be correct. It's great for discouraging others from posting rumours they have heard.

Mate, i totally understand people pointing out i got this one wrong. but surely you understand things change in silly season. as of 3 days ago when i last posted this my source of information was very confident he was coming. that's how quickly things change.

This is just my get feel, but reading everything that's come out in the past week, we may have cooled on Smith with other opportunities presenting themselves. Which is why we may not have pushed back when Geelong and Hawthorne made their late plays for him.

Im callin it we will miss out on Smith but Brown still possible Or Vice versa probably the former if ya all can work that out!?

It appears  the re- signing of Spargo has  finally and totally unhinged @picket fence

One of the reasons I was happy to get Smith as I was hoping he would be the perfect role model for Baker to learn from over the next few years.

He can just learn from Yze instead.

Any player over 30 is a big risk with soft tissue injuries. I thought 3 years was too long! Not a big loss to miss out

Lachie Hunter is the player we should be aiming for the wing position! Melbourne need to thing bigger And be bolder than Issac Smith!

Philips is a good player and would prefer him over Smith!
Otter ? Baker is a player we should be grooming for the wing! Development is key! Big preseason can reap big rewards.

Baker and Philips rotating on the wing could be the go!

Official. Two year deal to the Cats.

No need to hang @Dr evil out to dry. My mail was this was basically a done deal weeks ago for 3 year contract, but then I got radio silence the past fortnight. Things change.

We move on to other younger targets hopefully.

Out of all the intel it was @CHF that made the most sense last night. Not saying we went cold on Smith, but it sounds like we maybe didn't push as hard as what we usually do when Geelong came hard. This to me could mean something new has come up (Treloar??) that we have turned our attention too.

All you can do is laugh..

1. How good is free agency... &

2. We're far from a destination club once again.

Also, [censored] free agency.

Cats are getting Cameron, Smith and Higgins without using a single draft pick. The system is massively broken.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.

The Demons return to the scene of the crime on Saturday to face the wooden spooners the Eagles at the Docklands. Who comes in and who goes out? Like moving deck chairs on the Titanic.

It's Game Day and there are only 5 games to go. Can the Demons find some consistency and form as they stagger towards the finish line of another uninspiring season?
