Why do so many key players want to go there? Williams, Saad and apparently Oliver, what’s the attraction?

I think you've put two and two together and made 22 here, KLV.  Oliver hasn't said anything about wanting to go to Carlton.

Rather, a Carlton-supporting "journalist" filed a flimsy rumour that he was unhappy about his B & F placing and suggested that Carlton could do with a player such as him.

Chinese whispers and MFCSS have unfortunately tricked a few people into the false belief that Oliver wants out.

Really hope that Carlton do have to pay through the nose for him after they basically got Jack Martin for free.  I'd equally be ok with this all blowing up in the face of Essendon and Carlton,  with something similar happening this year and Sadd walking basically free in the preseason draft to say someone like North or Hawthorn who could scoop him up with their first pick in the preseason draft.

Saad needs to make it clear that he will leave if not traded. Probably the only way to deal with Dodoro.

We could have had Langdon for free (pick wise) so it always amazed me that we didn't do a play similar to Carlton

So for Carlton it's OK to cherry pick one game and say "oh they just need a few tweaks and some more development", but for us if we played one good game all year the response would be "one swallow doesn't make a summer" and "how long have we been waiting for this so-called development for"?

I guarantee if it was us who had lost late-season games, whilst in finals contention, to Collingwood (remember no one gives us any credit for beating an injury-depleted Collingwood), GWS (same deal) and Adelaide, no one on here would be referring to our "exciting brand" and no one on here would be suggesting we're just "a few tweaks" away from it.

Err, we too have an exciting brand, are a few tweaks away, some new recruits and another year of development from competing, just like Carlton. Never said we weren't.

The reference to Teague being approachable and friendly, and the players developing a good connection with him and his vision, is the major selling point by contrast. Teague doesn't come with the baggage of 17th and 9th AFTER making a prelim. IE he's not 4 years into a stint, under major review and have his job very much on the line like Goodwin. Harder and harder to sell hope as each year of failure passes.

I thought you might be been clever enough to figure that out without jumping down my throat and sooking about me not pumping up the MFC like I did Carlton. It's obvious we have great unrealised potential as well.

Carlton preparing to get Saad free if trade can't be done adam-saad-preseason-draft

Even tho there are a few teams ahead of Carlton who could draft Saad it would be unlikely if he refuses to meet them or do a medical.  It would be more a Luke Ball type situation.

Some interesting posturing coming up.  Dodoro might have met his match:  Carlton have shown with Martin they can be stubborn and won't blink first!

This is glorious.

Essendon are my most hated team just to let people know so I couldn’t be happier about this.

It seems there are some loose lips around the Bombers where people have vented about him not being particularly flexible in his role and he may have cracked the sads about it being made public and rightly so.

Why you wouldn’t shut your mouth till the deal is done is beyond me. If anything, I’d be leaking how incredibly talented, hard working, positive for culture, etc he is to maximise the compensation.

The club has so much arrogance in regards to list management and had so much swagger around last year in making Daniher and Faz stay. Couldn’t be happier it’s come back to bite them on the toosh and hope they lose Saad for sweet bugger all

With Zac Williams coming in I don't think Carlton will be able to front load any contract to the same extent this year and there's more than 2 teams ahead of them in the PSD order, including Essendon and the cashed up Kangas who were also keen on Saad.

In Saad's case I'd imagine the PSD threat is an empty one.

I hate the PSD method for players to get to clubs, i personally would favour contracts for draftees being locked at a certain amount to close this loophole

I wonder if this did happen whether it'd bring in other clubs like us.

We get deals done and don't leave players hanging like Essendon do. Managers know this too.

LOL @ Essendon for sure, but I'm not too thrilled about Carlton getting Martin and now potentially Saad for nothing.

Makes a completely mockery of the trade, draft & PSD period.

I only buy into Demonland trade rumours if there is a riddle.

Dodoro is a waste of time. What’s the point of trying to play poker when everyone knows you’ve got a bad hand and all you can do is bluff?

So instead anyone wanting to get out of Essendon now is clearly advised by their manager to announce it early so Dodoro can do his posturing, waste 3 weeks, and then get the deal done once the adults enter the room.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
