Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

So we win both games, Bulldogs win both games (they have Hawks and Dockers), Pies win one game (GC Suns) and we finish .... 9th. Excellent.

IN: Brayshaw, TMac, Harmes or Lockhart

OUT: ANB, Preuss, Bedford

Excuse my ignorance but I thought the injuries to Harmes and Bradshaw were 2 -4 week injuries so I doubt they are in the frame.

Play the 2nds.

Out: Oliver, Viney, Melksham, Lever, Gawn, Hibbs.

In:  Dunkley, Chandler, Hore, Spargo, Brown, Tmac.

Actually like the notion of seeing what we have although id play Oliver and Lever as full time forwards to see what they can offer.  Throw players around

Have to bring in T Mac and Bennell...  will need all the talent we have on the park this week, as bad as T Mac has been he could pull something out of the hat.

At least one of them could act as a foil to draw a defender away while someone else leads and takes a mark.

Easy,  Bennell.   We recruited him for a reason, so lets play him. Theres only two games left for us anyway most likely.

Hannan has been on the list for years and has done nothing besides a handful of solid games and that great goal in a the Geelong final.  Hes a delist for sure.

I love your posts . Your funny.

You saw a different Baker than I did then. Messed up everything he tried. Terrible.

Fair enough.

I won't be mad if Baker gets dropped.

On AVB giving away free kicks... He is on 12 against, compared to 24 Cripps, 16 Fyfe,  19 Oliver, 17 Kosi, 15 Harmes, & 15 Petracca.

vandenBerg's only played 10 games this year - most of the rest have played 15 or 16 (not Pickett).

But the main point is this: Cripps, Fyfe, Oliver and Petracca are all impacting games to a level that is so far above vandenBerg that the free kick against stat doesn't matter.

vandenBerg doesn't impact the game anywhere near to the level they do, which means then when he gives up free kicks it hurts more.

Look at it this way. I believe frees against are included in clangers (can anyone confirm that?).

Cripps averages 1 clanger per 5.7 disposals

vandenBerg averages 1 clanger per 3.9 disposals

Plus, Cripps averages 2.4 frees for, vandenBerg 0.7

(Cripps also averages more than twice as many tackles as vandenBerg)

I’m still mulling over the comment on another thread where somebody on here was rubbishing Lyon as a potential coach because he suggested TMac at CHB as an option.

Hes certainly an upgrade on his brother or JSmith IMO. If he can’t get a look in the forward line, maybe having him, May and Lever as the three talls isn’t a bad idea.

T.Mac in CHB is the absolute best option for him in this side.

Lever cannot and should not be playing a key position.

O.Mac is a FB, not a CHB, when ever he plays CHB he get's a horrible match up (membrey) and the result may not always be that his opponent scores, but they drag him away from the goals and his height and spoiling ability becomes a useless asset.

Google suggests yes, but it's certainly not clear.

If anyone has the AFL Prospectus, I believe all stats are defined in there.

Didn't watch the GWS game last night but I have watched them several times.

In general the teams that are successful against them force the game to be played around the boundary line and deny room to the outside runners by blocking the corridor.

It makes for an ugly game but so be it.

Will Goodwin back his usual gameplan or go defensive.

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we’re 1-4 with Smith in the side. He needs to go.

Hibbo can play on either Findlayson or Riccardi. He’s been smashed by Wallace and Walters recently so try him on a tall.

Is Lockhart in the dog house? If not play him on Hill.

T Mac to come back in for Preuss. At least he knows how to kick a goal.

Wouldn’t mind Hannan back in on the off chance he kicks a couple of goals.

My gut feel was the mass changes last week was a result from the match committee finally realising that, in spite of the players being fitter than ever, they are still fatiguing off short turn-arounds and require rest. We then overcompensated by changing a third of the squad in the hope of fresh legs winning us the game and subsequently bring in VFL standard outside runners into a rainy, windy contested game.  As for this week, I kind have given up caring what happens at the selection table. Just want to see some development and promising signs from our young players and hope Jordan gets a chance when/if fit.

Our usual gameplan isn't defensive? I only ask, because it surely isn't an attacking gameplan.

As to changes, the GWS loss changes everything. We should definitely pick a team to win, not to give young players experience, farewell those likely to retire or try fringe players to see who belongs. It all depends on who is available to come in, but any or all of Preuss, Bedford, Pickett, Baker and Smith could be omitted. ANB and AVB should remain because even with their weaknesses, they offer more than the five others mentioned.

Hunt could also be omitted, although I still wonder why we haven't put him back in defence where he's played his best football. I would much rather have him than Smith in the backline, although I'd prefer Lockhart to either.

To me it has been a push and switch style followed by the usual bomb to the pocket.

Other than it rarely working I've never thought of it as defensive but who knows.

To beat GWS you usually need a high tackling close checking team

Ins. Lockhart. Harmes. Brown.    I don’t think Sparrow, Brayshaw or Jackson are ready to go.

I think Lockhart was unlucky to get dropped and has the tackling and intensity needed. He should have been on Walters v Freo.   Again why did Brown go? He provided a contest in Stk and Sydney games and at least looked like a marking forward.

Outs. Neal-Bullen?  Smith ?? Preuss

Want to see Hunt and Baker and Bedford given a second chance. Hopefully dry conditions and told to run run and run

Pickett and Bedford not to leave to 50m arc at all !!!

lockhart  May  lever

Hibberd Tomlinson Salem

Rivers  Viney  Langdon

Melkshsm  brown  Vberg

fritsch  Weid Pickett

Gawn Trac Olly

Int. Harmes Baker Hunt Bedford

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
