I didn’t even bother watching, I’m the real winner here.

Nor did I first game I haven’t bothered since Roos turned up - probably won’t again till Goodwin leaves ! Sad but true ! (I don’t resemble the supporter I was or would like to be - Dictator Dan doesn’t help my attitude but Goodwin platitudes are even worse if that’s possible !

Honestly, we are just not good. The Roos experiment ultimately a failure, this team was designed to be competitive right now and we can't even make finals.

Playing Preuss as a forward is insanely dumb. I had hoped we'd see him get a long run in the ruck to send Gawn forward. Nope.

Playing Fritsch as a loose defender failed throughout 2019. Ruined our first quarter and robbed us of a rare marking target forward of centre.

We had no cohesion through our team, which makes sense given we had 7 new players compared to last week. I know some were calling for fresh legs but that wasn't the way to do it.

Our zone was too high. Our ball movement was too wide. We overhandballed for probably the 45th time under Goodwin. Gawn lost his composure, which happens far too frequently when we're struggling. We had no midfield support to ease the pressure on Oliver and Petracca. We have to continually rob Peter to pay Paul by throwing May forward, exposing Smith who isn't an AFL footballer.

The same problems continue to manifest.

Didn't think I could feel worse than last week.

Then we serve up that slop.

I've been putting it off for a while now, but that has to be the end of Goodwin's senior coaching career.  If it doesn't happen right now, then it happens at the end of the season.  I know there are financial implications involved, but I was embarrassed tonight.  We stunk it up again from the moment we got going and we never looked in it.  We hung around like last night's pizza for most of the night, but I didn't feel as though were ever going to win it.

Our forward line is a mess.  Weid is constantly battling two or three.  I can't understand why the [censored] we picked Preuss, in these conditions, to play as a forward all night.  Outside of one tackle he did nothing.  Our small forwards were Bedford and Pickett, two kids who are still raw and learning the game, and ANB, who does ANB things and really shouldn't be playing football.  Fritsch, while he can be soft, gets a pass mark from me as at least he gets to the right spots and does things with ball in hand.

Our midfield was running on empty and we lacked rotations in there.  I have to commend Trac, Oliver and Viney as they never stopped trying, but they were outmatched.

And lets not forget that we had too many passengers - Smith, Pickett, Bedford, Baker, Hunt (okay, he did two good things, but that was it), Hibberd.  There are probably more, but we need everyone contributing to win games of footy and it just doesn't happen.

Positives - I really like Trent Rivers.  Great drafting there.  Mids did okay.  Langdon has a dip.  Tomlinson did really well in defence.  That's really about it.

Hurting big time tonight.  Hopefully the club has the courage to make some big decisions in the coming months.

Another e-hug to all of you out there.

Well Said Wise

i haven’t trusted him since he walked away  from the 2018 Preliminary Final

As a young Coach he should have studied every Frame of what Meth Coke did to us in that First Half

But Simon knew better....

Well guess what...

Season over,Thank [censored]

Giants by 80+ next

Pay Goodwin out,it will be far cheaper than 2 more years of Goodwin wasting Gawn,Viney,Petracca,Brayshaw,Oliver and May in their prime.

Take your pets with you Goodwin-Melksham,Vandenberg and Oscar

Does Bartlett have the Balls???

If he doesn't,he has Failed as the Melbourne Football Club President!!!

Chooks with their head cut off, no system, no poise, no plan , just get it and kick it, all that energy wasted. I have been very quiet on Goody, but you really have to point the finger. They are leaderless at the moment, both on and off field

The list to die for

Delusional. It wouldn't matter who the coach was, no-one's going to be winning finals with this list - not in the short-term anyway.

Not sure why it's so hard for people to face up to the fact that we just don't have the players. The proof will come when we cut a dozen of them and no other club picks them up.

Season is a bust. Was proud of the effort tonight. Now I go on my long-tern off-season holiday. See you next year champs.

Outhustled by 14th and 15th on the ladder. Looked to have the requisite intensity for the last 5 minutes. Bizarre.

Forget Goodwin...those blokes got beat by a group who wanted it more than them.

Again. The cue was in the rack this game. Team looked in disarray - so many recent changes can't have helped, but jeez these last few weeks have exposed how fraudulent our supposed depth is.

Bunch of weak players who do not play for each other. It’s been the problem for 15 years.

The fact we played well at the end shows we had plenty in the tank. Our first half was pathetic AGAIN! Very little leadership, no sign of us working as a team or understanding the conditions or the phase of the game.

Thank god the season is over. I’m sick of this [censored]

No games are easy if the attitude stinks

Attitude is the 1 %’s

Garry Lyon absolutely bang on right now On the Couch.

[censored] football team. Worst decision making side for how many years?

where do you start ?

Gawn - any chance of running back behind the mark instead of pretending to kick short 2-3 times before kicking too close to the man standing the mark

pickett - has this guy been coached at all? Goes to ground almost every contest looking for a free. Try’s to kick the suitcase out of the ball every single time no surprises he’s 6.10 for the year.

How many times are we going to give soft sloppy free kicks away for high tackles ?

Oh spot on there. We burned so much in the way of petrol just running in circles with no system or football sense. For a team that apparently has such a complex game plan we sure looked like we had no idea.

Love Trac feel sorry for him

Yep, this club will be an anchor to his star. He wants to be great, it won't happen at this club.

There just seems to be no discernible game plan, made the more obvious when the oppo have one, use it and win

The selection changes didn’t work, the changes during the game didn’t work, the players look lost

Rudderless and absolutely without system

Not sure why people think changing the coach will make a difference. Who knows whether or not Goodwin can coach. How many coaches have we had since 1965? Not one of them has been able to expel the mental fragility that pervades this shambles of a football club.

If only Goodwin have of reviewed the 2018 prelim, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

lol

Just about done with this club. I think Goodwin gets next year not because he deserves it or because it's necessarily the right thing to do but purely because he's contracted for another two years. He's close to lost me now. If a coach can't get his team to perform against lower opposition with finals on the line then you have to question if he's got it in him to get us to the ultimate glory, and if the answer to that question is no then you're left with only one answer.

As for the players, twice in a row you wouldn't have known we were playing for finals. The effort was a little better than last week but still lazy and dumb at times. Fritta was actually one of our better players but he summed up our play with that third quarter effort where he couldn't pull a kick and instead did a nothing (short) handball to Rivers and we turned it over for a goal.

I also can't help but think that if Kozzie had kicked his soda goal things may have been different, went up the other end and they got the resulting goal.

I'm just done. I'm shattered. In short, I'm a Melbourne fan.

To hell and back? I know they had to give the pre-season doco a name but it's a bit of a slap in the face of the Melbourne fans who seem to live through this constant hell of mediocrity ever god damn season.

Disgraceful  weak ( censored ) hopeless .  Could you not play for the jumper?    We stress out more than what the players do..

Go and enjoy your golf and your surfing and your petty games. Enjoy the sunshine. While we suffer.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

And just like that, we’re Narrm again. Even though the annual AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round which commemorates the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to our game has been a welcome addition to our calendar for ten years, more lately it has been a portent of tough times ahead for we beleaguered Narrm supporters. Ever since the club broke through for its historic 2021 premiership, this has become a troubling time of the year for the club. For example, it all began when Melbourne rebranded itself as Narrm across the two rounds of the Sir Doug Nicholls Round to become the first club to adopt an Indigenous club name especially for the occasion. It won its first outing under the brand against lowly North Melbourne to go to 10 wins and no losses but not without a struggle or a major injury to  star winger Ed Langdon who broke his ribs and missed several weeks. In the following week, still as Narrm, the team’s 17 game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Dockers. That came along with more injuries, a plague that remained with them for the remainder of the season until, beset by injuries, the Dees were eliminated from the finals in straight sets. It was even worse last year, when Narrm inexplicably lowered its colours in Perth to the Waalit Marawar Eagles. Oh, the shame of it all! At least this year, if there is a corner to turn around, it has to be in the direction of something better. To that end, I produced a special pre-game chant in the local Narrm language - “nam mi:wi winnamun katjil prolin ambi ngamar thamelin amb” which roughly translated is “every heart beats true for the red and the blue.” >y belief is that if all of the Narrm faithful recite it long enough, then it might prove to be the only way to beat the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Sunday. The Lions are coming off a disappointing draw at Marvel Stadium against a North Melbourne team that lacks the ability and know how to win games (except when playing Melbourne). Brisbane are, however, a different kettle of fish at home and have very few positional weaknesses. They are a midfield powerhouse, strong in defence and have plenty of forward options, particularly their small and medium sized players, to kick a winning score this week after the sting of last week’s below par performance.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?
