TEAMS: Rd 16 vs Fremantle

There is no team balance when you play Joel Smith 1 kick and 3 HB a total of 4 possessions against Sydney . Something wrong there ?

Goody missed his name and was left in the side on paper.  Therefore he plays.      There was a smudge on the paper

I use to like Goodwin  however l have lost that confidence in him  and believe he has lost the plot and l think his time is up.

THIS IS BIG BROTHER    IT'S TIME TO GO ...........................SIMON !

To be fair, 3 of those were forced due to injury.

Of the remaining 4 (Wagner, OMac, Brown, Spargo), who would you have left in the side?

I could probably make an argument for giving Brown one more shot, but that'd probably be it.

Brown and Spargo

Smith did very well on Papley

Spot on Demons 11.  Brought back in after 5 weeks out and gets the job on the best small forward, who also happens to be the second best overall forward in the AFL and keeps him to 2 behinds and not many more touches.  Any Coach in the AFL would be thrilled if Papley returned those stats against his side, but oh no, the Demonland experts keep bagging him.
I never thought for a second he’d be dropped after that game and I seriously hope that a player that has so much athletic ability and has never been able to get a decent run at it due to injuries and negligent injury management by the previous fitness regime finally gets a chance to play all remaining games to showcase his talent.  Believe me, the future is NOT going back to Jetta who despite his big heart, is as slow as treacle and couldn’t jump over a jam tin.  Having said that, I really hope Smith plays Forward.

7 changes normally rings alarm bells but off a 4 day break I reckon it’s not a bad call.

Not sure the Gawn-Preuss combo is a good idea. We tried that a few times in 2019, and it didn’t work outside of one quarter against Sydney.

I think Bennell’s career is on thin ice. You can make all the excuses you want, but the fact he’s not one of the 7 ins and not even an emergency speaks volumes. Hope he gets 1 more year, but I am expecting that he won’t.

Glad OMac is out. I’m sure he’s a nice guy and tries his best out there, but his performance against Sydney was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Maybe the worst since Gillies against Essendon in 2013. Never again please.

Bennell is finished mate, no intensity what so ever.

Trains well though.

Cue ....... rack.

Very much a view to next year approach. Goodwin can see we will not win a GF this year and is planning for next year. With any luck he will set things up for the incoming head coach. If I'm correct about this then it is imperative that Goodwin does go as you cannot have a coach who cannot sell belief.

Well it's a better team. We finally have pace in Bedford, Baker, Hunt and Pickett which will make a difference. Hibberd is a good in we missed him. Vandenberg comes in for aggression and Preuss comes in to crunch a few packs. I'm expecting a better performance which wouldn't be hard. GO DEES!

Bennell isn't finished he just has to get fit. Next year will be his year always was.

It’s very easy to forget that Bennell has actually exceeded our expectations so far. May he continue to.

The changes look ok on paper.  Other than Sam I doubt if the rest of the fwds have kicked many more than a dozen goals between them.

Fritsch has kicked 17..

That is the impression I had from Goodwin's interview yesterday and from the selections.

Worrying.

Worst team we have seen all year, and there have been some shockers to this point.

We're short a genuine key defender, given Freo has three tall forwards, a lock down small defender, one - two midfielders, and a key forward.

Never mind though, we have Melksham, Fritsch, Neal-Bullen, Pickett, Bedford, Vandenberg and Hunt all horribly out of form and not capable of doing anything other than loitering in the forward line waiting for some easy kicks to come their way.

Goodwin reminds me of Daniel Andrews, trying to give the impression that he has everything under control when really he lost the plot months ago.

This has been fairly covered in a number of other threads.

Papley was loose a number of times and although didn't kick goals, set up others. We also saw our defence over-focusing on him, leaving other Swans free.

Smith wasn't the sole reason Papley didn't score a goal, he might not even have been the dominant reason.

Your main support for him is his athleticism. That's not enough.

And it's not Jetta I'd replace him with, it's Lockhart.

So what are your solutions, @poita?

Play OMac? You're a fan of his, are you?

Where are the missing 1-2 midfielders we haven't picked? Bearing in mind Brayshaw, Sparrow, Jordan and Harmes are all injured.

And who's the key forward making the case for selection? We pick TMac, you say he's "horribly out of form". We pick Brown, you say "we've resorted to playing an Essendon reject". We pick neither, you complain we didn't pick one.

Indeed, as usual, all you do is complain.

7 changes of which 3 are injuries & 4 day break but I question why play Jones who was always suspect plus his form has been poor. Major concern for Goodwin as can’t fix the same issues now since 2019 with a healthy list for most of the season. We lack steel within our leaders as brereton mentioned

7 changes ???

Looks to me like major panic !!!!!!

I'd expect this from a team that is mathematically out of finals and looking to play fringe players

Is that 17 changes in 3 games?

Nothing to see here, all under control....

his difficulty isn"t his attitude but rather that he still cant properly stretch out his leg and accordingly he plays at  about 3/4 pace .His future depends on the continuing improvement of the injury

Thomlinson may rotate through the backline and wing.

Hunt, Baker and Vandenberg rotating with mids and wing.

Preuss and Gawn rotating  in ruck and forward line.

These are overdue changes, with rotations in mind. Should have happened weeks ago - before Max's injuries became debilitating and before OMac got a jumper.

Amongst some of the others already in the team, I have a little more faith in the likes of Hunt, Baker, Vandenberg, Preuss as rotators, with a good deal of faith in Tomlinson rotations from wing to BPkt. Lever does not perform reliably in a KDP - he needs to be a utility intercept provided he keeps moving when about to kick the pill - not stop and prop for a signalled disposal.

Such changes keep the opposition keen across a game; such incoming pace and muscle are wise moves but it took the fans to express this before Goodwin took notice and acted (for a change). Lockwood unlucky; hope Bedford fires and Viney stays out of the way in space.

disappointing aspect is no Lockhart - did he pee in Goody's tea or something?

Should be a lock for sure. Has been very good.

Baffling that poor performers are gifted games but this bloke is left out.

Really don't get this omission either!   Guy has been thrown into backline and performed admirably.  Has shown enough as a forward if there was not a spot for him in the backline.   Type of player who runs hard both ways, has neat skills and shows heart.  He would be one i would put under Langdons wing during the offseason and develop him into hard running winger.  He knows how to help defend and has some flair in attacking half.  I can't think of too many others that have the skill set required for the role.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
