Slightly tangential, but I'm not a fan of the way the Rising Star is determined. I have no problem with a player each week being nominated, but the Rising Star for the year should be chosen from any player who meets the age/games played criteria, not just those who receive a weekly nomination. What you see in the last few weeks of the year are players being nominated for the weekly award who don't really deserve it for the last game they played, just to make sure they are eligible for the annual award.

The other issue with weekly nominations is that if there is no objectively good performance in a round, someone nevertheless has to get the nomination.

Conversely, you might get two stellar games in the same round, but can only nominate one of them.

When I think of Trent, I think of him, on the field,

from a first person lens

looking down field 100 metres away in the forward 50 arc,

seeing ol' mate Jacko's head (chariots of fire style), bounding joyously towards a

perfectly placed lace out 55m bullet off the right

for the next decade.

Time and time

and time and time

again

And it brings a warm glow to my soul

Love this kids poise, composure and skills. Can't wait to see where his career goes. A level head on the HBF for the next 10 years if he keeps this up.

looks to have the goods in a key role in modern football - enjoying watching him

I've read many poems about Trent throughout the course of his career, but this is definitely the best of them.

Let's just hope a perth club doesnt snap him up five years from now.

said this in the post game thread but he definitely reminds me of trav johnstone, good disposal and great composure for a first year player.

He looks to have a calm mature mindset, you can see this in interviews also.

Lets hope the coaches don't Frantic him up too much

Exactly. He has the pace and skill but importantly also the footy brain to compose and find the best option. Good signs.

Second best. You've forgotten this one:

"By Trent Rivers of Mel-a-bourne we sat and wept
    when we remembered Lyon".

Made famous, of course, by Boney M.

Giant Jason Riccardi this week.

Yeah he was always going to win it.    Early days but GWS might have added another immense talent, this time from left field.  Sigh.

No only rising star but best 22

Has to be the nomination.

Very impressed with his cool headedness and maturity beyond his years.

  • Demonland changed the title to Trent Rivers Rising Star?

Number #24 (Ian "Tiger" Ridley's and Russell "Robbo" Robertson's old number) is proudly being worn again by Trent Rivers.

Let's hope he gets the nod for the Rising Star Nomination for this week. Trent Rivers certainly deserves it with an excellent game tonight for the Demons against the Giants.

Claimed him as my boy from from the moment we drafted him.

Have been saying that while all the draft hype was on Jackson and Pickett, this is is as good if not better then both.

Absolute steal who i rated in the top 20.

Just as important as his final goal were the two one-percenters he had in the final 30 seconds of the game. Giants were charging towards a match-winning goal but he kept getting in the right spaces defensively to prevent that from happening.

Hope he gets it but Tom Green had 30 disposals with 20+ contested with the AFL site listing him as their best player. Rivers thoroughly deserves a nomination however I can see it going Green's way. Regardless, it's obvious that we've found a gun kid here. Has looked the part since his debut, even the commentators were big wraps for him.

I'm going to one-up you Dazzle and say I've claimed him since before the draft. When it became certain that we would overlook Young I was hopeful we would pick him up. All from a couple profile reviews and two minute highlights tape mind you but I'll claim it nonetheless

Now to extend his contract for another 3 years.

Green’s already got one so it Rivers’ to lose for this round.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!
