there's no way jones would come up you'd think if he's got issues with his quad

sparrow and preuss are clearly going to be out and then i guess it becomes about what forward make-up we want

melksham, avb, pickett, and hannan all should be under the gun, as should t mac, harmes and lockhart, but i don't think there's much depth to replace them with - don't see any of the wagners, hunt, o mac near best 22 personally

who knows what they'll do, but personally i'd go with...

OUT: hannan, preuss, t mac (all omit), sparrow (inj)
IN: gawn, bennell (but i wouldn't be surprised if it was more of a mid selected, so possibly jordan to debut?), rivers, brown

harmes to replace jones in the hff moving up into the midfield, rivers as the 7th defender, bennell to try and encourage pickett, spargo, melksham to apply some defensive pressure...would be handy if he could too...and brown to offer better ground ball involvement than tommy mac

gawn will be going up against ryder and marshall, who are working together in tandem very well, so they could also opt to try preuss instead of brown as a forward but i somehow doubt it

You had me until Preuss as a forward ?

Boy I'm missing Jackson... even if it was only his haircut

T Mac is a worry ( starting to sing the old abberation blues)

HF: Spargo  McDonald   Pickett
FF: Hannan  Weid  Fritsch
Foll: Gawn  Petracca Viney
Int: Lockhart Brayshaw  Harmes   Hunt

Don’t mind the three ins but I would drop Harmes as he looks to be well down on confidence and I don’t think that will be back with a change of role. He needs a break to get his head right.

Rivers in for Harmes and Jordan in for Sparrow along with the other tow changes you suggest.

Surely Pickett holds his spot over Spargo

Spargo today showed he's a good small forward in a team that is easily beating the opposition up the field. He adds little when it gets a bit tough

Out: Sparrow, Spargo, Tmac, Hannan

In: Gawn, Bennell, Jetta, Hunt

We can see that we still are a bit off legimate top 8 sides.  We need to focus on 2021 get games into Rivers, Bennell and see if Bedford, Jordon and chandler can show something

Out Tmac, Harmes, Spargo, preuss, sparrow

In rivers, bennell, bedford, jordon, gawn

Tomlinson to follow in Ryder for second ruck

Honestly does it matter?

IF they go with the mindset, and the clueless inability to try a tag on a playmaker, then toss a coin.

That third quarter, in a match that offered so much reward, was unacceptable on field and in the coaching box.

The Saints won’t be happy they are getting us after a bad loss. Everyone knows we get over confident when we’ve had a few wins and relax

Yep good idea. Even if we do make finals I’d be amazed if we do any damage.

Tommy has to be the first dropped disgusting performance so slow ever since he done his knee against Carlton. Replace him with Brown time to show what your made of Brown it's now or never. Jones has to play he's done nothing wrong he replaces Sparrow. Rivers to replace Harmes, there comes a time when your lack of form becomes a hinderance now is the time for Harmes to learn his role in the 2's. Spargo isn't a footballer he likes to front run like most of our players, time to stop playing him and Hannan who done nothing and bring in pace and class in Bedford and Bennell.

We need some speed. Hunt, Bedford and is Oskar Baker ok or injured? Even Corey Wagner perhaps? Not all ins of course but if it is some quickness we want, that’s what we have in the bank.

Wouldn't mind seeing Oskar Baker in the team.  A big powerful, fast mid.

A huge no to Hunt coming in ever again.

I thought Hunty looked ok early on playing out of a forward pocket.  We need speed in the forward line to open it up and give the mids some options.

Love it. Would add out Harmes in Jetta.

I am confident we will bounce back, such is the flakey nature of this team.

Out : Tommy McD, I'm sorry but if he was true to himself he would volunteer to fall on his sword, at the moment he is not AFL standard.

Out : Melksham, just needs to go back and watch the tapes, he can be better...much better

Out: Preuss, I love ya big fella, and you really tried today, but Max is waiting in the wings and it's a no contest.

In: Smith or Brown (Don't care), but give me someone that competes

In: Hunt, play him forward and let him present, thats what he does best

In Gawn...No comment, just gte him back

They won't make many changes, given two are forced with Sparrow and Jones and preuss will come out for maxy.

But I'd be really disappointed if melksham isn't dropped.

The 50 was pathetic from a supposed leader. That goal was the nail.

His body language straight after was pathetic. Shameless to be act confused. A fifty every day of the week. And a lazy, careless one too.

But unfortunately that was not the worst example of a lack of leadership. Not going back hard and marking inside 50 (I forget who kicked it, Salem maybe) was just unforgivable.

Melksham has been woeful in all but one game this year. He keeps getting games seemingly because he’s mate with Goodwin. He needs to be dropped. If it’s good enough for Hibbo, Jones and Jetta it’s good enough for Melksham.

I've been a big fan of Melksham but he has absolutely lost me this year. Lazy and selfish. To see him named stand-in captain was both baffling and eye opening.

You'd say maybe Hannan, ANB and Hunt are the similar kind of players to Melksham.

Melksham is behind all of them for tackles, tackles inside 50, one percenters (although ahead of ANB), contested marks and pressure acts (although just ahead of Hunt).

He's a 'Goody's boy' though, so while others who don't apply enough pressure get dropped after 1 game, he's made captain.

No wonder our team is inconsistent, they're following the example of their coach.

Exactly. When we apply pressure we look ok (and surprisingly we don't look slow). When we don't, we are a bottom 4 team.

Kind of always been bemused as to why we regularly just seem to decide we don't need to apply pressure to the oppo. You'd think the players would have connected the dots by now, but no. Every season the premiership gets won by the team that applies the most pressure for the longest...it's almost without fail. This is not the NBA where good offence beats good defence. The talent level in the AFL is relatively low and defensive intensity can overcome offensive talent.

It's obviously cultural and it's hard to see how this club will ever show the requisite intensity for long enough the compete for a flag. It just always seems too hard for our guys.

Out: Melksham, Preuss, Spargo, Sparrow (inj)

In: Gawn, Jordan, Rivers, Bedford

Time to drop some non-performers and bring in Gawn plus some kids who will have a genuine crack and bring some pace and skill to the team.

I get that Melksham had a poor performance, but those thinking Goody will drop him are delusional. He’s been pretty decent the last few weeks prior, plus Goody loves him (per the captain choice),

Out: Preuss, Sparrow.

In: Gawn, Bennell or Jones.

Hibberd has one more chance I reckon.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
