I know, you're sick of talking about Jack Watts but I am genuinely curious to know why or how his career has stalled at Port.

No games this year, not listed as injured and identified on their website as a key defender.

Anyone know what's going on there?

(It would be truly weird if he managed to be selected late in the year and won a premiership medal. Not sure how I'd feel about that.)

He had a serious leg break last year. Back training/playing now but hasn’t been able to build any decent form. May crack some games soon.

Yeah he is a bad player.  No idea how hes lasted 11 seasons in the AFL.

Pick 1 has some weird mystique about it, no matter how much you suck clubs will keep giving you chances.

He had some injury intruptions during the covid break with his calf's. Only started practice game 3 weeks ago.

Coming back from a broken ankle and the team is tough and at 9-2 it’s pretty easy to work out why he is not playing.

I was wondering the same thing.  Couldn't even find any mention of him over on Port's website.  Like he's just fallen off the planet.  Really hope he can make it back.  Always had a soft spot for the lad...

Rubbish. A "bad player" doesn't play nearly 200 games.

He's just an ok player. Very skilled, has obvious deficiencies. This mentality from so many footy fans that someone is either a complete dud or an absolute star is just incredibly shallow.

Indeed.

How many premierships are won with 22 star players,   absolutely none.

Always will like Jack   if only for the goal that killed Collingwood...

I have to fully agree with you there.

Thanks for the updates y'all. I'd forgotten the leg break. Can be a long way back and as some said, Port's a hard side to break into atm.

I take your point BBP.

The fairy tale goes like this;  Jack gets recalled to the seniors during Ports finals campaign because of injuries to key forwards. Jack plays in GF and kicks 5 goals including the winning goal after the final siren 55 metres out on the boundary line............against us!

That is utterly depressing.

He was never a bad player but I don't think football was ever his number one love.

He wouldn't be the only one in our current best 22 that's like that..

Was playing in defense last year for Port prior to the leg break.

Tore us apart in Round 1.

Wish him all the best!

We kick the ball so poorly going inside 50.

Jack Watts is a very good kick of the footy.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

We have moved past Watts surely

Yep he was quite serviceable and won a couple of games for us including that ripper against the pies.

Was shocked when we traded him but in the final analysis, I'm pretty sure the club did the right thing.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
