  • Gawn could be an issue both in the ruck and around the ground.
  • Gawn will destroy him in the ruck and around the ground.
  • Max Gawn will feast this week. Not much we can do about that.
  • Around the ground Gawn actually will damage us.
  • If Gawn does completely dominate centre bounces/stoppages, you play man on man with the opposition players around Gawn to restrict the smallls taking it away with little pressure on them.
  • I hope Archie has been practising his spoils his week - if he's able to mitigate Gawn's marking it'll be huge.
  • Archie has a massive task ahead of him. Almost want him to basically tag Gawn around the ground and not let him dominate in that area.
  • The Demons are pretty much relying solely on the brilliance of Gawn and Petracca and those two are playing that well at the moment that they are quite literally able to carry the Demons.
  • Gawn, Petracca, Oliver and Bennell all fit and firing simultaneously can challenge any side in the league.

Everything else

  • I'm not confident about this one. I think Melbourne might surprise a few this season after their terrible start and this is their statement game. I can see Melbourne winning this one.
  • They have no real key forwards of concern but their smalls and their pace generally could worry us at Metricon.
  • Petracca will be the big factor of who wins.
  • Oliver can also lift the Demons and carry them home.
  • I am genuinely concerned that we don’t play Metricon particularly well.
  • I’m really looking forward to watching Harley Bennell. That guys been to hell and back and deserves any success that comes his way.
  • If Harley Bennell can stay fit for the rest of this season and find some form he could be the game breaker for them. Such an insanely good talent.
  • Viney was very good from what I saw last game too.
  • Interesting they brought Jones in.
  • Jones is a big in for us. Old and slow. Our boys in the middle should run rings around him.
  • I don't think the Jones inclusion is such a good thing for us. He is an old head and in a slog, he can work smarter. Key match-ups
    • McInerney & Smith v Gawn & Jackson
    • Lyons v Petracca
    • Berry v Viney
    • Neale v Oliver
    • Zorko v Harmes
    • McCluggage v Jones
    • Robinson v Langdon
    • Bailey v Brayshaw

Hi @Queanbeyan Demon, these are fantastic - could you provide a link each week to the relevant supporter club page? That'd be great :)

• I really hope we have a thumping win over the Melbourne Football Club. Not a fan of their fans and given we haven't had a big win in a while, hope we do so this week.

Saw this earlier in the week. We’re a nice bunch aren’t we?

@DemonOX and other fellow ‘landers that attend, make sure you belt out a strong rendition of the song should we win. :)

Nice but shouldn’t it be Vulture Street?

Yeah, an interesting one Deeman. I would have thought Vulture Street as well. The address according to their website is Stanley Street.

Not a fan of you either Brisbane Person

Get.....

they're pretty much on the money. if Gawn and Jackson dominate as much as they should and we don't just bomb the ball long and high to Harris Andrews we're a big chance.

pretty simple.

Win it in the middle.

Lower your eyes.

Hey EO. Most weeks I obtain the info from FB, supporter forums similar to Demonland and BigFooty. This week it was mostly BF. https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/round-8-melbourne-versus-the-brisbane-lions.1243439/page-7

Well there you go... just read through it.

Who would have thought there were two OMAC's in the league who incur the ire of both teams loyal supporters!!

"To say that Oscar is not near AFL standard...are you serious?"

Quick straw poll - Is this quote about Oscar Mcinerney or Oscar McDonald?

I reckon we got this. We have them covered all over the ground. Just play smart effective football, don’t rush, don’t handball to a stagnant player and we will win comfortably.

I like when I don't have to refute a statement because a poster proves themselves an idiot within that statement.

Dee can’t sing to save my life but if we win you will hear me (and my kids) belting out our song through the effects mics on the ground ?

Brisbane are in great form and are one hell of a rapidly developing team.

We've beaten Gold Coast and Hawthorn the past 2 weeks. Hardly giant killing form.

A win over Brisbane will tell me that we are serious. Expecting a narrow loss.

Talent for talent in the middle we  will deliver.  Max will lead by example and the rest will follow.  The confidence is Building.

They have reason to be confident. Other than Max, they match us (at a minimum) in practically every position on the ground.

I have tipped us to win the last 2 rounds, but Brissy, imo, will probably have a narrow win tomorrow.

My opinion of MFC being a flakey, mediocre team will change if we do beat the Lions tomorrow. This is a seriously good test for us.

All of Brisbane is jumping on the Lions bandwagon as the Broncos are unbearable to watch. Should be a cracker of a game.

I thought they were quite amusing to watch last night

Yes Hawks beat Brisbane, gold coast are good side, better then half the teams, going around.

If we’re to play finals we need to pull out wins against quality opposition, we lost to West Coast, Geelong, and Richmond albeit the cats one was close and I great chance to snatch it.

We simply have to win one of this week or next week. I think we face Brisbane in an interesting time because they are in form and we are just starting to find some confidence. The Lions fans aren’t wrong about a couple of things, Gawn and Petracca are a large reason for our form but also the way we’re playing around the ground is a lot more reminiscent of 2018.

They took the best part of 3 quarters to get away from a Melbourne side that basically showed nothing all year 2019 at the Gabba. We should be right in this all the way.

Thanks   QD   always interesting to get the other view.    Do not think it will be easy,  not in any way, But if we play well with few passengers   we could win,  hope so anyway,   Go Dees

No evidence to show we will be able to beat Brisbane away. We have hit some form so it will be interesting to see where we are at. I suspect a close game at times but the bears will be too good and win by 2-3 goals

our season is far from over if we lose. North and crows to come shortly after

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
