Won't be disappointed if he moves take away his tackling and not much is left for a so called A grader that people think he is, but will admit he gave his all.

Would be nice to experience a good match day coach and tactician which he hasn’t had since Roos left.

It was only earlier this year that a couple of Geelong supporting mates were the saying the same about Scott we are now saying about Goodwin. And I guarantee those noises will start again when they get bundled out in straight sets again

Ive seen Jack and his partner down at Ocean Grove a few times, smashing some burgers and chips at one of the local eateries. (2016-2019)

Can someone tell him you're supposed to eat it, or is his restaurant IQ as bad as his football IQ?

Could be a good fit for Viney.

I would presume with his father no longer at the club, a kid to think about,  and not to mention the professionalism of Geelong. It could be the best decision he ever made.  Players are here to win Premierships.

Love Jack but would not blame him if he wanted the change.

That Geelong team always look happy.

It would be sad to see him go, but hypothetically, if we got a first round pick that we used to draft a Max/Ben King forward type, I could live with that.

The only problem is a mid 1st round pick is really an end of 1st in this draft. It's better than what we have but geez, this draft is just so compromised

Sad if he goes from a sentimental and family history perspective, but I think it's better for the our football club now.

If he leaves its on the coaches and its another in a long line of players leaving that are disgruntled with the lack of success and professionalism at the club. Its really disappointing that we have such good players and they cant get it to work. i love Jack Viney. I love his competitiveness, his determination his toughness.. the club needs more of it not less. People are obsessed with Angus Brayshaw, he has teh entire footy world bluffed, hasnt strung 2 decent games together since 2018,  he is lazy, one way, disinterested and a smart alec. i know which one i would want to go.

spot on mate.

Where is his professionalism and leadership? How is he dragging the playing group to finals let alone a flag? That is not looking to defend the footy dept, I just think the players need to be accountable too, where has Jack improved his kicking or decision making or leadership?

Good luck at the Cats Jack.

Brayshaw has more upside than Jack and is younger, he’s got time to grow, Jack Is at his very peak as a player and won’t get any better/will be less effective from here. I feel like JV will have a bigger and faster cliff than Jonesy. His game style is becoming dated without being good by foot or hand.

Im saying this as a fan of him and his dad as Dees players.

Agree...

he is one of the few good players that is any way surplus.

If we can use the pick and salary savings to trade for a good outside mid it's a win for both sides.

Saad is the other player who comes to mind but is he what we need most

t is another tragedy. Jack may be tempted and some fans will be for it. All because we have not had adaquete coaching or team structures to individually improve Jacks game or help him achieve team success.

This is the tragedy. It hangs over the whole team from recruit to old hand. As I have said before, often: Goodwin has minimised the skill set and the footy careers of so many of our young men in just four years. Those coming into the Club cannot progress to their better abilities and skills because of this handbrake operated by Goodwin for the team to remain mediocre. His game plan, unspecified, unknown, unseen is all that matters to him. Who would have thought that a coach could do this to a team?

Would you trade Jack for mid first round? Would end up being about pick 16 given the academy/fs picks.

I'd do mid first round and try and swap for a key fwd or skilled outsider.

It might cause some friction within the team. Put significant heat on Goodwin and Mahoney too (que the haters...)

Big preseason, win games next year and that will disappear quickly. Oh, god, I sound like SWYL....

Surely if Jack goes, we then go hard for Williams with the cap room, then take the pick to the draft for the best outside player/small forward available. The old 2 for 1...!

Why wouldn't you pack up the family and move down to Barwon Heads, Torquay.  Great life style, great for a young family.

That is what it will come down for Jack, what is best call for his family.

I didnt know this sub forum existed until now... was wondering where all the trade and player threads were.  Anyway heres what I said in the Viney thread on the main board...

'They'd love him as a Selwood replacement.      Jay Clark has had good mail on the Demons in the past so this might have some legs.  '

Don't Geelong have a salary cap?

Ignore his last name. If this unlocks a mid-late first round pick and $600-700k that allows us to start to rebalance our side. Don’t push him out but dont over extend on him and if he wants to go dont stand in his way.

I just don't think people are valuing his hardness at the ball and the ferocity he brings, that is worth more. I don't care about his name, or his heritage, it is his attack on the football, and so he is not a superstar with his DE, I can live with because the pressure he brings makes up that difference. And it is far from the worst over the season. I just cannot stand our limp efforts, he might get beaten occasionally but he never gives up.

Yeah Id take a 1st rounder for him any day, its just that its a very compromised draft so it could be a pretty weak pick.

Do whatever makes you happy Jack and whatever you think will bring you success. No one is going to pat you on the back in twenty years and say thanks for hanging around.

A decent coach might have him working as a Libba (senior) style tagger.

Libba is a much smarter footballer and has better skills/knows his limitations very well!

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
