Confused inside 50

"Deer-in-the-headlights" decision making

If they have a system, it is impossible to recognise.

And the MFC standard - handballing to a stationary team mate.

Reckon Salem could show some urgency? Sprint the 50 and kick the [censored] ball early!!

not wait for 30 seconds and kick to a 3-1

That was baffling. I was yelling at the TV. So emblematic of the club as a whole.

Just now, BrisbaneDemon said:

It’s frustrating out only goals come from player brilliance and not structure.  The boys looked confused inside 50, they don’t know where to run, where to stand, where to block etc.

this has been happening for two years now!.

Salam is absolutely wasted down back, he should be a high forward or is leading up and delivering to the forwards.

I genuinely don't think we had an instance of a forward leading into space take an easy mark.

How do we consistently allow teams to chip the ball around? Surely we can plan for this. Despite the result, we were utterly outplayed and outcoached.

The idea of possession in competitive ball sports is taught to Primary School Kids, yet we fail to understand how it's a vital tool.
Geelong proved how effective it is, we just want to try and constantly have forward moving pressure, it does not always work, incredibly exposed in today's game.

That was incredibly ordinary from Viney, standing there, hands in pockets.

Dropping marks, taking up space instead of manning up and half volley kicks. Needs to be fixed. Coach is a rabbit in the headlights, never making a change or giving instructions. He looks scared.

As if any more proof were needed, chaos ball is not a game plan. It’s high risk, low percentage, and easy to exploit on the breakdown. I don’t think there’s any doubt now that Goodwin needs to pull something out of the fire, or he’s gone.

All our players have gone backwards under Goodwin. It’s a coaching disgrace

Oliver - Backwards

Tmac - Backwards

Lever - Backwards

Fritsch - Backwards

Jetta - Backwards

Would struggle to find the name of a player who is improving under this regime.

Salem is a lazy, lazy footballer. Gets the 50, jogs to the mark when we had 2-3 blokes out the back, and then decides to chip it to a 3 on 1. For a good kick, he doesn't take the game on.

Honestly believe we've got the talent but the problem we've got seems to be leadership and coaching.

It's just total confusion.

But we don't have the $ to pay out Goody and  to contract a good new coach.

The AFL won't bail us out again.

Our forwards defensive pressure was poor again, look how many turn overs the cats got on us for pressuring back.

Why do we always have multiple players run past the ground ball, for then the opposition to mob it up!

We seem bereft of any real system. I cannot believe the entire playing group has a significantly lower footy IQ than other clubs. It comes back to the coach having no plan B.

As for Lever, what did we pay for him? Whatever it was, we've lost that one. And I know Mc Donlad was injured but he should not be in our starting 22. Simply not good enough.

Not good enough for long enough.

When "on" we look capable but time after time the chain of ball movement breaks down before we can get near goal.

Oppo can keep it going longer. They score more easy goals to put scoreboard pressure on. We are battling our guts out for every goal.

Geelong players have a higher level of skill. Better drilled, better positioning around the ground.

And what is with these high hanging kicks around the ground, that take 2 weeks to come down? Defender's dream.

What a cluster-**** inside 50. Chaosball is great if defenders are bamboozled and panic. But every team is used to us now, and know to hold tight and squeeze us until we screw up. We oblige.

We are not potent up forward. Tommy can't get his hands on the pill. Is something wrong? Injured, mindset? Doesn't matter. He's not doing it.

More generally, the game is dull. Such low scoring across the board.

Umpires still don't know how far 15 metres is. Numerous Cat attempts on goal (some successful) from short kicks paid as marks.

Cats doing the old Dogs thing of not picking the ball up, but falling over on it and scooping it out at the same time.

Not ready to say season over yet, but gee ... the most talented squad we've had in years ... Please don't waste it MFC.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
