Ban Essendon for 14 days, move on and give us the 4 points

Precisely. If players can be suspended for breaching Covid19 rules, then clubs have to go if they can’t produce a team clean of the virus.

Apparently McKenna was in Ireland and did his 14 days in quarantine.  Only returned to training last week.

Reports form China from the harbin outbreak saying that some cases of the virus is having a longer incubation Period, plus taking longer to clear from system.

I think they’ll reschedule the match. Perhaps to a later date or have a 3-games in 2 weeks scenario.  Thursday night to Tuesday night to Sunday night fixture.  Stay tuned.

Considering he went into isolation for 14 days and has now tested positive....

Apparently he tested +ve earlier in the week but was a-symptomatic and continued to train to even early this morning, where a second test revealed another +ve test.

Not across the protocols with everything covid related, but if the system allows for training after a positive test to continue, that is amazingly ignorant by either the AFL or EFC.

So he tested positive...to a club test.

...if that's true and was allowed to train.

Then he and the club ge banned from the rest of the season.

We should get the 4 points..  what is worse is building match fitness which other clubs can and we can;t.  You can’t train for the intensity of games during the week.  Even a intra-club match is not the same.

14 days was a numebr plucked out of the air to a large extent.

If they only postpone the game. Come later on in the season, you get a few injuries that aren't major, could you deliberately infect a player so that you get an extra two weeks for your players to recover? An extreme measure but it could be done!

....by the way, how in the f... was he let back into the country in the first place.

The borders were closed I thought.

He's not in an essential industry.

Is he an Australian citizen or did the bombers pull in a favour.

Well a lot of what goes on in the AFL is arguably criminal from a supporters point of view, but this would land someone in jail.

Interesting point. Is he on a work visa or is he a naturalized Citizen?

Wow, this mob have a dodgy track record

Drug cheats & now ignoring Covid-19 ignorance

Well done EFC

Lot's of journalist have thrown around the term closed borders, but international flights have never stopped. People returning from overseas need to do 2 weeks of hotel quarantine.

I’m gutted - I was looking forward to that. Has just made me hate Bombers even more.

Hear hear Rjay.  Should be a 21 day quarantine for sporting teams.  So much to lose if it gets loose.  More importantly, this is really gonna stuff my whole weekend!

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
