NON MFC: Round 02

Lowest scoring game this century I believe. Rubbish game of football to watch.

Pies lucky not to get overrun after not scoring a goal after the 6 minute mark of the second quarter. Pathetic.

Hopefully our match on Saturday is more enjoyable to watch!

Felt bad for both teams as neither list has a player with the raw talent or excitement of either Kozzie or LJ.

U know the tigers have won a couple of GF’s right.

I switched to  masterchef after the pies came out and kicked the first 4 goals. I thought how boring. Then watched the last few minutes. My god can't believe the final score. It was so low.

But seeing the dejected looking on eddie's face after the game gave me a laugh.

Up there as one of the worst games I've watched since our 2009 game against Adelaide on a cold Sunday night at the G.

Interestingly Jamie Elliot who we chased really hard in the off season had just 5 disposals for the game.

That paid mark to Higgins was a joke, clearly it was over the line. It wouldn’t have been paid if the scoring was higher.

and the just prev tigers goal from a staged-for free was pretty sus too

those 2 gifted goals  represented 33.3% of their score

neither side deserved to win

Fittingly in the number 29 jumper.

KB would have been proud.

There were two goals I was going to mention but couldn’t remember the second one, that was it. Clearly milked the free and the umpire appeared to have a good view of it. Another gifted goal to keep Richmond in it and the score ticking over.

Seems to me that there might be an issue with player fitness after the long lockdown.

Fitness isn't the issue it's the boring defensive stacks on football that's the problem.

If this is emblematic of footy in the 20s I reckon we get Ross Lyon on the phone. It's his time to shine.

I did find it interesting that the small/medium forwards and 'zippy' players of both sides had a bit of a rough night.

Rioli, Pickett, Castagna, Higgins, Lambert and Bolton for Richmond had varying levels of individual influence but were mostly pretty insignificant considering that is almost a third of the team.

Josh Thomas and Jamie Elliott were minimal for Collingwood, though Callum Brown at least got involved in some scoring.

Also notable, more than half of Collingwood's players laid one or no tackles.  Shortened game and all, but yikes.

Final gut feeling - at least for a couple of rounds there will be a serious gap between the main contributors and the less diligent and mentally prepared players.  Getting the most out of the 'weaker half' of the 22 could be a very big deal until people remember the rhythms of playing.  Leaders and highly motivated players will matter a lot.  There could also be some monstrous early blow-outs whenever a team clicks into full gear and the opponent is still mentally running around their back yard.

It was very scrappy, both teams didn't have their mojo running at full tilt. That last two minutes of play looked particularly unorganised and low in skill, I think all the teams could be a little cagey as to what they do. The lesson here is the team that settles the best will get the chocolates, both teams looked almost confused, at the final siren they were laughing with each other. I think with the shortened quarters extra should've been brought in as an option for 2020.

By the way I wasn't sold on the crowd effects, I think they need to peel it back a bit. Too much crowd noise with clearly no one there is jarring.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
