Goodwin is such an empty vessel after a loss. He says nothing that inspires any confidence that we can improve.

Didn’t know AFL players weren’t allowed to bet on AFL games. Didn’t think there was anything wrong with pestering Steven Dank for “the good stuff”. 
 

As somebody who followed the Essendon drug scandal very closely (my best mate’s little bro was in the team at the time), I was furious to learn of his appointment at our club. Have been trying to keep a cool head about it throughout my time on DL discussions. Failing miserably today. Sack him.

Agree. To an extent. At least one of his kicks directly (which was after a mark not in play, so unforgivable) cost us a goal.

I watched the first quarter and then turned it off.

We looked insipid and incapable, and I think it showed that to the opposition, they were effectively laughing at us and treated us with disdain. 

It was embarrassing.

The coach, the plan, the players, something has to change. 

The Club is fighting for its life and that effort(?) won't help, we have been serving up the same [censored] for years and something has to give.

We need Roos back, for five years, to end this apathy that is shown by the players.

I think we should ask our midfielders to kick to the opposition defenders when we are entering our forward 50. It is the only way to avoid them based on our skills yesterday. We simply couldn't hit a target, so switch targets.

Team rack up higher hard ball gets & forward 50 entries , but just continue to butcher the ball by missing targets, bombing it long... no different to 2019 ....  not sure what to make of this??? Landing in Perth 11.30pm on Sat didn’t help either . Very hard for the club to make a move on Goody if things don’t improve as season is more than likely done! plus real concern for our finances & couldn’t afford to exit him

Don't get me wrong, I would've loved a win. However I'm not sure we should lose our collective na-na about the result given the players knew they were effectively playing a dead rubber. Lots of players from both sides were walking around trying little and chatting to their opponent. There are concerns about our i50 entries, but not exactly sure that one game reflects where we are at. Not saying it isn't, just that it was a nothing game.

I can't see the season starting up again at all this year. I suspect neither can the players.

The outraged on here will disagree, of course. Meh.

Given my frustration at our decision to select four small forwards and exclude any decent back-up for Gawny, I was actually pleasantly surprised with some of the ball movement for much of the game.

Lockhart's evasiveness and combativeness was excellent and he's a delightful kick on most occasions.

Angus was moving beautifully again - his enforced extra running training because of his injury last month seemed to have helped him immeasurably.

Trac was a real Dusty-type presence everytime he went for it and they spent most of the game trying to negate his influence.

Langdon was everywhere, although his disposal let him down a bit as we expected from earlier showings.

Tomlinson looks a real brute of a wingman and gives us a tall cutout down the line.

Kozzie was a real livewire and may yet guarantee Tubby Taylor his job for next few years.

Gawn got better as game went on and thought his last quarter was really good - imagine if he'd had support early.

Viney was unbelievable. In everything and so assertive and so fit compared to recent years.

Ollie was good but still wanted to play safe and turn sideways, even when options presented to go forward. At some point hopefully he will realise that he is one of the three quickest players at the club and with his height and strength, he can do exactly what Trac is now doing and take the game on.

May and Lever looked superb in the air, while T.Mac and Brown kept presenting.

But here's the rub. What kind of nickempoof (wrong spelling) would play four smalls up front against a defence that includes Gov and Barrass and Sheppard who pick off almost very kick down the line, not to mention the fact that our your ruckman was coming back from injury. I get it that our coaching staff felt that by providing defensive pace we could have forced errors, but can someone tell me who wins the pace race between Jackson and Spargo or Jackson and Bedford - a rhetorical question.

Once we got behind early, West Coast was able to zone off and force us either to go sideways or take the long-kick down the line. And if you go down the line you need at least two talls up forward - not four small ones. I'm sure Goody wanted us to play on and take the game on but you still need tall players to present when the options dry up. 

Goody now has at least 10 weeks to think his gameplan over again. Yes he is running out of chances, but he is not a complete dill and I am sure he will have realised his selection gamble backfired and he needs to reassess his team balance.

I thought Lockhart was excellent. So much cleaner for the most part, than the majority of his team mates. Kozzy is going to be a ripper and Viney stepped up and showed leadership.

But Goodwin bangs on about system and you could see it up on the coaching board at one stage. "Protect the corridor", yet almost immediately after that restart, West Coast kicked to a practically unmarked West Coast player standing... in the corridor, who proceeded to then move it through... the corridor.

Absolutely, the players have to shoulder much of the blame for not being able to perform their roles, but the coaching staff and the senior coach need to shoulder some of the blame too for not getting the players up. West Coast players had to deal with the strange circumstances too and they did. 

Weird day I know, but it was another embarrassing performance. It may not have been a 10 goal pounding, but West Coast were in cruise control most of the day and as others have said, this game mirrored most of our performances in 2019. Very disappointing.

I don't think it's so much about outrage mate, but more about what systems have they worked to improve all summer? Forwards were often failing to lead at the ball carrier, midfielders kicking sideways to 2 on 1s in our forward fifty.

Looking at the team sheets going in to yesterday, you thought, right, we've noted their tall targets down back and we've picked a smaller side. Good thinking, so we'll try and keep the ball away from those guys, but all we did was bomb it long all day. 

Instead of outrage, I'd say there's reason for disappointment.

All the things that we did wrong in the game were things I've complained about for years and would normally be super mad about. But with everything going on I honestly just came out of it happy that Kozzy kicked his first goal.

I'm now in the process of watching the replay, I always do no matter the result, but what I continue to see at Melbourne is too many players look to be labouring to get into defensive position and this is magnified against the better team's in the comp untill we have it ingrained in our DNA to run hard both ways we will be mid table at best

Omac was terrible when linking up. absolutely destroyed our momentum at times and confidence. that 15 metre handball to 2 free demons players along the boundary summed him up. he couldnt even hit that target. He fumbled and missed kicks. he was awful and reflected why we got beaten badly. no way on earth he was near our best.

100 % agree with this. and sums up my feelings. They treated us like second grade sparring partners, flicking the ball around easily and having a laugh. I felt ashamed and turned it off as well.

not having the structures to stop easy backline exits was laughable after a whole pre-season and a near full list. Laughable.
