Looks like we are going for as close to our Round 1 side as possible, which makes sense.

No Pickett is interesting. Has he done enough for a Round 1 gig and has, therefore, been given the week off, or has he missed out entirely?

Edit - just realised he is missing due to personal reasons. My bad.

Announcement said he was missing the flight for “personal reasons”. Anyone have any insight?

Read the website..  it says he's sick.

Let's say that's our best available right now. Salem gets back in, with Brayshaw and Vanders on the bench, there is only one spot for:

-Hannan

-Smith

-Kosi

-Jackson

-Spargo

-Hore

-Lockhart

-Brown

-Bedford

-Jordan

-Sparrow

-Hunt

-Wagner

-Rivers

-Dunkley

-Petty

-Baker

There is a lot of pressure on the ANBs and Weids, Hibbards and OMacs to play well to keep their spots.

We have at least one depth in every position except ruck (waiting on Preuss to return) and probably the wings, and we perhaps dont have the spread of "star" quality or "match winners" across the 22.

As long as a large number of key/top players don't get injured, we seem to have decent depth.

Pretty close to our round one side I’d say, big question looking ahead is whether Kozzie has done enough to warrant a spot vs the Eagles. I’d be leaning towards no but having said that let’s see what our forward pressure is like without him. Bedford has had some high praise by track watchers here so perhaps he gets first go.

Plus there’s something about him debuting on the G that conjures up a bit of romance.

As for this match I’d say for a pre-season match it’ll be played with pretty decent intensity, both teams will be keen for a good hit out before round one.

(AvB please line up Scully if he’s out there! ?)

Jackson, Spargo, Brayshaw, Bedford, AVB, Hore, Brown, Lockhart

Interesting interchange list, I assume like against Adel they will play with 5 on the bench and 2 subs. Brayshaw and AVB are obviously in but I wonder who the other 3 will be. Jackson, Lockhart and Brown?

Personally I'd like to see them play Bedford, both to see him at the level and also if they intend to play Kozzie rd1 then it will be the like for like forward structure.

Hawks at relatively full strength (injuries aside)

Strange... a couple of years ago players were rested/rotated you name it during this part of the season.

Seems to be a change in approach these days.

Omac, May, Lever with Hibberd is one tall too many in my view. Kozzie’s absence really leaves the door open for Bedford to take his chance whilst its there. Was very good against North and could have easily kicked 4. Will be interesting to watch how we use the bench to manage minutes or whether we will play 22 and the other 4 are purely to sub on an as needs basis.

Any thoughts why Rivers hasn't been given a go. Going to ruin my supercoach backline

I’m surprised we haven’t heard from @WERRIDEE yet!

The club posted the side in block capitals - I hope @WERRIDEE isn't feeling redundant!

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
