Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Point well made, he went backwards last year, but played some very smart football in 2018. Give him some injury free time and see how he goes in 2020.

Great to hear the team finished strongly yesterday, and while only a practice match a lot better start than last year.

As previously mentioned bring in Max, May, Brayshaw, Fritsch and a Finger’s crossed on an injury free year for Smith, and the team is looking a lot better than last year!

Go Demon’s in this even Olympic year!

I hear talk this morning that the Toyko Olympics are under threat of being cancelled due to corona virus - hopefully that doesn't put our season at peril.

But Steven May's incident was obviously more severe:

1.  He is Steven May; and

2.  He had a MFC jumper on.

Seriously though, Clarrie is hit in the mouth by Crouch's shoulder, after Clarrie got rid of the ball and was wide open, when there was no need by Crouch to touch him and Crouch jumped off the ground to hit him and Clarrie coughs up blood from the blow.

That has been a suspension every time over the last few years, but no.

I actually think Christian has become a parody of himself and the MRP.

Spot on red.

The key point is he had a choice and elected to bump a player. Who didn't even have the ball.

Oliver is super lucky his jaw wasn't broken. If it had been crouch gets six weeks. Ridiculous luck plays such a big role in the punishment.

I thought the head was sacrosanct.

Makes a complete joke of the AFL's recent strengthening of the concussion protocols.

I can't believe there has not been an uproar about this. Shocking decision.

Does anyone know where to find the match stats?! I’d love to see how Vanders ranked given that after watching the replay twice he seemed to also dominate.

AARON VANDENBERG (Melbourne)

The injury-plagued Demon has only managed seven appearances in the past three years due to a persistent foot injury, but he looks to have finally turned the corner. The 27-year-old returned at Casey Fields against Adelaide on Saturday, collecting 19 disposals and laying five tackles. He hasn’t played an AFL game since Melbourne’s preliminary final loss to West Coast in 2018, but could return against the Eagles on the same ground in Round 1.

Pretty decent first game back after missimg around a year.

Not sure about the official stats that you would find in a normal game. But in addition to R(B)Gs info above...

icon_wing.gif Aaron Vandenberg (78/100): Playing an outside game
Vandenberg contributed with 19 touches, 3 grabs, 5 tackles and managed 0.1.

(78/100 represents time on ground percentage)

You are inexplicably failing to understand my response.

"Petty" is added  to the list of marking Demon forwards that YBlood mentioned.

Then you reply with your assertion that my reply is curt as I questioned whether you were joking or had Forgotten Harrison  Petty you know our back turned forward who marks well!
Now you accuse me of harrying you response.

I feel it is you who owe an apology in this exchange.

You completely botched the whole posts as you couldn't relate to our player Petty!

Thanks mate, I suspect Vanders performed better than what the stats show, he bashed the proverbial out of them to the point that they looked fragile/scared in the backline - standard Vanders - bloody legend!

I think we can say now that if you push a bloke over and he goes off with a sprained ankle, you will be suspended, but if you belt a bloke in the face and he plays on, that might be a fine.

The action has lost all relevance and only the result counts.

Still the worst decision I have ever seen was the weeks Moloney got several years ago, for running at a Cats player, but not touching him and the Cats player falling over trying to avoid Moloney. No contact but suspended.

At some stage I hope Christian gets questioned by someone that really knows how to put the spotlight on the fuzzy logic he uses. "Mr Christian please explain your definition of a player who is or isn't inconvenienced when being struck on the jaw via illegal contact. In particular would you find a player to have been inconvenienced if they fell to their knees and retched up blood or would they need to spit out teeth? "

Plenty of missed tackles across the whole game by other players.

With some notable exceptions, I was disappointed with our tackling on the weekend.  Too many didn't stick.

Particularly in light of the Polly Farmer story today and the ongoing concussion stories of players like Monkhurst and our own Shaun Smith.

If the AFL are serious about this issue then the head has to be sacrosanct. If you let players off for this then you are saying that head contact is ok. If they give Crouch a week or two to be served in the season proper I guarantee he'll think twice the next time. Now some other poor bugger might come off worse the next time and the AFL may be a indirectly at fault.

I noticed that too in the match day thread and made mention of it in my dislikes/concerns section of our podcast. Too many opposition players brush past half hearted one armed tackle efforts. There are notable exceptions when it comes to tackling but there are a lot of players who need to improve in this area.

Steven May just laughs, at what he got, for less last year.

Not sure about Crouch, but Steven May has quite the history with MRP, most notably a very ugly shirtfront on Stef Martin. That record may have tipped him over into a 1 match ban last year

[censored] that was a big hit, right up there as one of the nastiest I can remember in recent times. It’s magnified though by sneaky Ablett pushing him into May at the last minute. That was really dangerous. May was actually standing still and bracing for contact. Without that push from Ablett it would’ve been far less damaging hit. Still massive though!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
