Vanders may not have great stats, but he hit hard, stopped a lot of Crows forward movements and when he kicked he generally hit a target. I thought he was good.

Weid became more effective as the game wore on. He was good in the final qtr. The important point is that he rucked all day, and he negated their advantage. Credit where credit is due. Jackson showed that he can give a chop out. In the first half his ruck work was promising.

Pardon the interruption but I didn’t get a chance to watch the game.

Where there any  Injuries?

Chest mark in the last 2 minutes? Yes. He played in front, which was good to see.

Jones and Jetta had minor niggles in the second half, but you would assume they would be fine for the game against the Hawks in Tassie.

Other than that I think we came out unscathed.

Disappointing second quarter,  in the first part we did not seem fully interested,  shades of 2019 I thought,   But once we got going and Kossie had a bit of it,  the rest of the game just got better n betterer.

I had thought, kiss winning in the west on the [donkey],   but maybe not,   If we are within a couple of goals at three quarter   we should run over anyone in the first few games. Then lets see how the rest d the season pans out.

Go Dees 2020 !!

Jones had a lower leg injury (ankle, foot?). Jetta was in some trouble with apparent jarring in the last but ran it off.

Not fussed with the result but some very good signs with Trac, Lever, TMac, Oliver being Oliver, Jones up forward, Pickett (small glimpses), Jackson (didn’t do much but his spring in the ruck was very exciting) and lastly the fitness to really run out the game.

Hard to work out whether Weed played well or not:

- fair few on here saying was hopeless

- he had c.20 possessions

- AFL listed him in our best

Then he obviously sucked

Weid played a great game. Hes a 196cm key forward who had to ruck the whole game against a 202cm genuine ruckman. Once Gawn and Pruess come back in Weid give us another option up forward alongside Brown and McDonald.

I thought he played well - he still needs to take the bull by the horns and clunk some marks for us, but when you consider the fact that he rucked most of the day, I think he had a positive influence on the game.

I don't bet personally, but Petracca is at $81 for the Brownlow.

Just saying.

i thought he was good. he's under sized for a ruck but he battled manfully all day. dropped a couple of marks but really offered something at ground level around the stoppages I thought.

He was $501 before today's effort.

Really pleasing to see them play the game out. We were kicking into a fairly stiff breeze in that final quarter.

Weid was solid playing out of position.  If he had clunked 3 or 4 of those marks when he had first hands on the ball, his game would have gone from 'solid' to very good.

A lot to like in that game, I thought we were better as the day went on.  A lot to do with fitness but we became less fumbly too.  Petracca would have received the 3,2 and 1 votes he was that good.

Weid got his hands on plenty but just couldn't stick them, if he had have held onto 3 or 4 of those marks he would have had a good game.

Add Gawn to that lineup and we win by a lot more, they had a big advantage in the ruck.

T McDonald will be better for the run, the longer the game went, the better he became.

O McDonald basically not mentioned on here, which is about the highest praise the poor bloke gets.

I wince every time AVB tackles someone, it looks like it really hurts.

Can't wait for the real stuff to start.

Promise I didn't see your comment before I typed mine.  Great minds!

WAS LISTED AS ONE OF THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE afl REPORT. GOOD ON HIM.

The best part is he got through the game and made some aggressive tackles.

That will do me for now.

I swear a lot of people are just sheep aren't they, one person says weed played terrible, then another person just repeat what the other bloke says, without actualy looking at his game, 20 hitout 19 pos, 3 clearances 2 Mark 3 tackles, by a non ruckman agnist one of the top 5 ruckman in 2019, he's actually had a elite game by ruckman great game.

The one that he eased across the face and was marked inside the opposite point post?

Yeah right. You see what you want to see. Confirmation bias 101.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
