Goodwin is tight-lipped. Confirmed a player vote occurred but the club still has things to discuss with the playing group and an annoucement will come in the next few days.

I get the feeling that Goodwin is leaning towards a Co-Captain Model but the playing group wants Gawn. No particular reason for this just a feeling I have.

Would be interesting. I have the same feeling.

We had Goodwin make the captain's call on Viney then the failure to communicate it to Jones, then the cancelled camp the next offseason, then the disaster that was the preseason of the 2019 season... Seems we trip over our feet at about this time every year lately.

"Soul" captain accidentally works.

If it had been Korea instead of China we could have even had another spelling...

However your comments and many others you have posted are definitely the antinomies of those qualities

Antinomy is an aberration. I assume you mean antithesis.

Lets be honest, not surprising at all. Only reason why he was captain was the likes of McCartney and Goodwin who elevated him straight away.

Now that the players have been given the opportunity to vote, this shows who they respect and look to as their leader.

Never have rated Viney as a leader. I look at Lever, May and Gawn and they stand for everything you need in a leader. Commendable and respected. Viney is not that.

Lever and May? Spare me. Lever has shown no leadership whatever. Has played poorly far more than the few occasions he has played well.

May may be a leader but history shows he, also, won't play many games.

By contrast, Viney gets himself up for every game possible and his  courage and  determination are legendary

And this proves why you are clueless.

wow love it.... my new word........

Antinomy (Greek ἀντί, antí, "against, in opposition to", and νόμος, nómos, "law") refers to a real or apparent mutual incompatibility of two laws. It is a term used in logic and epistemology, particularly in the philosophy of Kant.

Personally I hope Jack remains in the leadership group and the change is sold to him on the basis of restricted availability for extra leadership  functions due to coming fatherhood and allowing him to concentrate more on his own game.

Don’t think it is a good situation if he thinks his teammates think poorly of him.

Why would they think poorly of him if the only reason is because he was a poor captain??

Nup cant buy this argument at all!!

It’s the right way to go. Jack will still very much be a spiritual leader and continue to lead by example on the field. It also doesn’t rule out regaining the role down the track.

Captaincy is never an exact science.

I think that may be part of the issue - I don't think Jack is a spiritual leader. He's more a lead by example kind of guy. There were some rumblings about two camps with Jones and Viney and whether or not that is true, players follow guys who are natural leaders not just leaders in name.

I recall when Sam Mitchell was Captain but it was clear that Hodge was the spiritual leader.

I see Gawn as the guy on field that others follow. I think May and Lever could be too if they can put a body of games together...

Friday afternoon's intraclub match against North Melbourne.

Peter Ryan in The Age not quite grasping the meaning of "intraclub".

Unless we're playing amongst ourselves north-south while North Melbourne play east-west.

I really hope he doesn't compound his initial mistake with this.

Needs to be Max as captain, no copping out with the co captain thing.

Stand to be corrected, but don’t they usually call up the captain/s last when they present the players up on stage at the family day?

It seems a little odd if they call Viney up as captain and then we hear a change in the next few days.

A little perplexed by the fuss.  Maxy up-front followed by Jack as VC seems like a bit of a no brainer.

Allows the youngsters to just play without any of the extra pressure & nonsense that comes with being part of an extended leadership group.

Did you read this on the intranet?

I’m more a fan of a small leadership group as we’ve done in recent seasons (3-4). Takes a bit of pressure off a captain/vice captain leadership group of 2 In maintaining standards.

Not sure a leadership group of 9 like Brisbane have done will ever take off.

That was supposed to be antinomes the plural of antinome. Spell checker is on holidays. Antithesis will do as well. Should have just said the post was krap or bultish rather than try and spell anything correctly.

Well that could indeed be the case, I think a lot of us thought Jack might have been the heart and soul of the club with his history and his never say die approach. We can only go by what we see I guess.

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
