So it's still peak MFCSS in here? [censored]. The $$$ will already be pretty much locked in.

What is this based on?

The business case is to come.

There should be multiple co-financing avenues with the multiple racing clubs, MCC, state, federal and even local govs, the AFL and our own cash injections, but this is a commercial team that struggled to get a short's sponsor for a team that had finished top 4 three years in a row and won a flag.

As for MFCSS, it's actually just a lack of trust now sullied over multiple years by the administration, nothing to do with the football side of things. At least not for me.

I hope Skuit didn't wait up for this.

Really just more of the same.

It's "build time" I want to hear about: ie how long will it take once the project starts turning over dirt.

A MFC player will not grace it this decade. Think 2030+ better then than never.

Well I for one am pleased with even this degree progress towards a home.

It's a lot closer than we've been for many a decade. Kudos to those involved.  Now let's  get it over the line.

Be sort of ironic to have Melbourne's Cups housed at Caulfield

Whoever asked after the ovals.... bound to replicate the G and "insert dockkands sponsor name come 2030" ...   all in all a marvellous  step forward, and it is, a step forward. Not a lot to hang our football happiness hat on but this IS good news.

Let there be more

Wonder when people on here will apologise to Roffey about not doing anything about this project, seems she was up in her neck in it...

And for all those who say Casey was to far well looks like we will lose players that live on the peninsula as it's to far with traffic heading to caulfield they will br sitting in their cars for over an hour...Wonder when people on here will apologise to Roffey about not doing anything about this project, seems she was up in her neck in it...

I’m in the unexcited camp on this. It remains little more than an idea and another year before we see any serious possibility of an actual training base. The waiting game continues unabated.

Go to sleep for 9 months and wake up with some positivity!!!

Great news. So far, so good. Congratulations and thanks to all involved from the club. I think we all understood when the feasibility study was commenced that this was going to a long road to fruition but glad it has progressed to the next stage. Really do appreciate everyone’s efforts. Now the really hard part of the process starts and no doubt will throw up numerous hurdles to be overcome.

I do wonder however if there is a plan B or C also being investigated (at least locations identified) in case the Caulfield project hits a fatal roadblock moving forward. If there are still other options being looked at as possibilities, what are they? I know Yarra Park ended up being a “no go”.

Would be awful for the Caulfield option to fall over next year after having then spent the best part of two years working on it only to then be right back to square one. Need to at least have a few other possible locations identified. I’m sure they would have a few other options on the table that they probably identified when starting the project. Would love to know if anyone know’s what they may be.

Hooray! Finally some progress!

Our Home Base at Caulfield Racecourse will be an incredible achievement for the Melbourne Football Club. A Home Base is in many ways almost as important (if not more!) as winning Premierships!

This idea of a Home Base at Caulfield Racecourse was first suggested by former Demons President Stuart Spencer way back in 1990.

So only 34 years in the making...

The concept art is appealing. We definitely need a Melbourne Football Club history museum for our thirteen (and future) VFL/AFL Premiership Cups!

I am expecting we as Melbourne members will have to pay for a significant portion of it. They should of started the Home Base fund in 2021 after our Premiership. We would of all been very enthusiastic!

Either way, I expect a few fund raising events like the "Debt Demolition" back when Jimmy Stynes was Melbourne Demons President.

All I suggest, is that the outside of our Home Base buildings are red and dark blue similar to our jumper. A bit like the style they have at Punt Road for Richmond with the yellow and black.

Reckon they might live on the peninsula because of its proximity to Casey. Or are they all going to ask for a trade to the Hawks and the Saints? Think being closer to the city is probably a good thing tbh.

If they move the admin office the trophies, which are at present in a display in the boardroom at the MCG, will move as. well.

Oh that's right Debt Demolition, shows the boards in the past were wonderful.

I'm confused by this. Why are we waiting a year for the business case to be made if the financing has already come through.

I have no knowledge but don't think we would be announcing today's news without a level of surety the funding is locked in.

i am going to guess that we will wait for a year to have the business case approved before first sods turned 2026; building open in 2030

I'm not surprised but I'm seriously annoyed about it.  As Perty said at last year's AGM, if it was as simple as the idea of getting a training ground, it would have been done years ago.  The biggest barrier to this happening sooner is the lack of readily available space close to the city that members would be happy with, with stakeholders willing and able to make it happen.  Here's probably the best opportunity we have since Gutnick turned down the Olympic Park precint we're ever going to have.  FFS, let's embace it!

Oh I am believe you me - I probably wasn’t clear that I’m pleased by the announcement

I think this is a great second step toward getting it ready to go

Still a fair journey ahead but we are further advancing - from a communication standpoint to fans as much as anything - as we were yesterday

I hope the wires have been crossed somehow but talking to someone in the Premiers office and they told me that there is no way this goes ahead. I am hoping he just means there is no way they get funding from the Govt but will wait and see.

It does not help that the site is in the electorate of Caulfield, consistently Liberal and currently held by David Southwick. Although his margin is just a tad over 2%, after four terms of Labor there is no way he is losing it, or the Allen Government thinks it can snatch it.

Amazing though, when Labor has thrown money at other clubs it would baulk at ours. Might need to take up Caro Wilson's suggestion and install Terri Bracks on the board!

Thanks @goodwindees ur info was spot on about an announcement today.

God there is no pleasing some posters here. We get some news that our potential home quarters is progressing and some of u are carrying on that u thought it would be more advanced, yet if nothing is said the same posters still bloody carry on about the lack of progress.

FFS it’s not a 2 min process and there are stages that we need to go through to get this project completed. Yes it has taken a long time overall looking for a home base, but bloody hell a bit of positive news is better than nothing.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
