Training Ground?

Melbourne Airport might give us a long term lease on some land.  We could head out to Cranbourne or Wollert.  But then we might as well extend the Casey oval 15m on the North and East and stay there.

If the Mornington Peninsula ever gets its deserved "regional" status from a Vic government, set up a stadium and training base down there (somewhere) and get minimum $150m in funding. It would offer the players the exact same lifestyle the Geelong players enjoy and it could become another graveyard for opposition teams, like GMHBA stadium

Did we ever look at Prahran which we have historical ties with. The only problem would be parking but the train station is easily accessible. Stonnington wouldn't be putting anything into it so it would be all Danny. Nice opportunity for our "dear" leader to swan around with the hoi poloii of Stonniington.

The ground has to be the same size as the “G”. I doubt Prahan fits that criteria.

I’m not a Melbourne resident but by looking at the map the easy solution would be to fill in the Albert park lake or bulldoze the golf course and build there.

That’s essentially what happened to Burswood resort precinct when Perth Stadium went up.

Give the GP back to Radelaide.

Problem solved.

You’re welcome.

Definitely the funniest thing I have read this week Steve. The sad part is it is probably easier than getting something near the G.

There is one place we have never tried the old elsternwick golf course.

Too late on that one, it’s being converted into a wetlands/park.

Alright, then; Fawkner Park? NW corner, say, with Admin and indoor football facilities in St Kilda Rd office precinct (conversion, or demolish/new).

Though my real money's on the 'G redevelopment per earlier post.

...and mine. Must be close.

Car park is a little bit small at the moment but could be improved on.

Hawthorn used to train on the hills back in the days of Scott and Mathews.

Vafa ground Elsternwick park is under utilised. Umpires train there during the season and they host a game of the week for vafa. I have been saying for years we should look at it. Big ground. Near tram train and bus and plenty of parking. Near end of chapel street as well. The old Elsternwick bowls club next door ripe for a demons happy hour after a 4pm training. We will always have Memories of junction oval training in 1989 I guess

Many, many years ago, I was retained to act in some litigation involving damage to a property close by the Elsternwick Park area. Some very simple and rudimentary research revealed that much of the area was once swampland and any building work there would involve some serious and expensive foundation works. The location might be excellent with good transport but my advice is to stay away from this place.

The main ground at Elsternwick Park is currently a disaster area. It’s used as the VAFA’s headquarters and this year’s finals were a disaster. Rain and flooding hit the ground an hour before the Premier B Section Grand Final (see photo)  resulting in an ugly game on a mud heap won by Old Haileybury 2.10.22 to University Blacks 2.5.17. The Premier A Section Grand Final scheduled for the following day was moved to the Trevor Barker Beach Road Oval.

In short - a definite NO

On the contrary @Whispering_Jack. This presents as a fantastic opportunity to vastly improve the facilities at Elsternwick that would benefit many in the community, not just the MFC

Problem is that the building costs and the expense of draining the grounds would be massive. Someone has to pay for that.

Well if the government gave us half what they have given the cats we could do that and make all the goal posts out of platinum and still have spare change.

As much as I hate to agree with Eddie McGuire he was spot on when he made a comment about why are we trying to squeeze into the sports precinct when Port Melbourne's ground is primed for a redevelopment. The old DHL factories next to the ground are as old as the hills and could make way for an elite facility. Port Melbourne would be a great location IMO.

You're right regarding potential to be redeveloped. We would need to displace the port football and cricket clubs...

Not the kind of ruthless move we are capable of.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
