In addition, one key element of any World Cup bid is a demonstration of the legacy of what happens to the facilities once the Cup is over. While I have no idea what our Cup bid looked like, a legacy of providing key facilities for the worlds oldest football Club would certainly not have hurt our bid. "Legacy", from my experience, generally implies the item is given away. If this is the case, then we could end up with a state of the art home base in our preferred location for basically no cost. This would be a stunning outcome for the Club if true. If anyone is going to achieve this it is our new President. 1 Quote

That will discourage car use...and allow Gosch's Paddock to be extened to MCG width. Build a car tunnel under Punt road from St.kilda Junction to Vic parade or even the eastern freeway, include a few on/off acceses. Allows for both Gosch's and tiger land to expand. Will quieten the area and give another main artery into the city as well as connecting the eastern and south eastern freeways. Mazer Rackham 14,972 Posted August 11, 2021 Posted August 11, 2021 Brian Cook of Geelong is a very very very good operator, and has done enormous things for WCE and Geelong. Future AFL CEO unless he sees it as a demotion. Not sure how WB did it, but being in an area that ticks every box imaginable -- multi-cultural, changing demographics, historically underprivileged -- makes it a lay-down misere compared to what we're working with: zero starting point, public land, bugger-all land, trees, NIMBYs, etc. 1 1 Quote

How much have they be given in total now for their ground redevelopment? Meanwhile, we're lucky to be getting a $3m upgrade of Gosch's paddock (to which the MFC has contributed to). old dee 24,083 Posted August 12, 2021 Posted August 12, 2021 I can Never understand why MFC members don’t get it! There are no votes in providing money to the MFC. There are lots of votes in Geelong and surrounding areas at both state and federal level. MFC members are low in number and spread out over numerous electrets. We are very low on the totem pole. We will get scraps from another project when it suits the government. 4 2 Quote

Similar to how the majority of the money supply is created by banks when they make loans. As for Government spending, the Treasury instructs its central bank to credit/mark up Exchange Settlement Account balances of the appropriate bank and numbers go up on a screen. These numbers are called reserves - they're digital dollars. The reverse happens when tax liabilities are extinguished. When I pay my tax, my bank Westpac uses its reserves (digital dollars) in its ES balance to settle my obligation, and the RBA marks down Westpac's ES balance at the RBA. Victorian Gov is different to the Fed Gov. The Vic Gov relies on revenue as a currency user (including GST, which is funnelled back to them by newly created reserves to match the revenue taken in by the Fed) and the Victorian bond market, as well direct foreign investment (see the Chinese deals thst were done by Napthine and then Andrews). The major bond holder of Victorian bonds since March last year is the RBA (ie, the Fed Gov is funding elements of the Victorian budget - and the rest of the states and territories, to get them through COVID). Taxation is a control on inflation and is what provides demand for a currency like the AUD. Here's the Bank of England on money creation in the modern economy, which is mostly bank credit - https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/knowledgebank/how-is-money-created (this also has a breakdown of the UK money supply, Australia's is similar - last year at a point, bank credit accounted for close to 90% of the money supply). And here's the former head of the US Federal Reserve (US central bank) talking about how a monetary sovereign spends in the modern economy - And yes, I'm looking forward to seeing what the larger overall development of this site is. Will it involve a further cash injection from govs down the line? 4 1 1 Quote

Demon Dynasty 17,165 Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 (edited) Series 589, Episode 5, Sept 2175 (Above: TonE Robinson aka CyborgClonE Model BLDRIK-188) In this enthralling episode it's time to take a look back at old Melbourne where we focus on an area once collectively known as Yarra, Melbourne & Collective (Olympic/AAMI) Parks (YMCA) district, when it was once a thriving bustling sporting precinct early last century. In this episode our legendary and most knowledgeable host, TonE , walks us through the entire precinct. With particular focus on the sacred sporting grounds prior to the abolition of contact sport (2045) and resulting demolition of this former precinct by Australia's largest political party of the time, Australian Society of Inclusiveness and Conservation (ASIC) in conjunction with other influencers (such as the respected and still functioning local Richmond district's LESMOKAFATONE+), circa 2048. Of course now known as the New Flora, Fauna & Fungi (incorporating Injecting Site) Inclusion (NFFFI) District, officially opened over 100 years ago on 5 Nov 2050...See More Gosch's Paddock YMCA district, undergoing a major upgrade... Gawndy the Great 9,011 Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 If they do this, can they use Olympic Park oval in a shared capacity with CFC? It would still be a bit of a walk between the admin/training facility and Goachs paddock. i reckon they could use the car park to the SE off AAMI with an underground car park instead of the Proposed SW as it has a larger footprint to work with and is closer to Goschs paddock. 2 Quote

DeeSpencer 26,677 Posted August 18, 2021 Posted August 18, 2021 This would be a huge compromise and not something we should do. We’d clearly just be the crammed in poor cousins to Collingwood. The entire point of having the club together is for them to be together. Not training on the other side of a stadium. The access is rubbish. There’s no scope for future development. Where’s the ability to host family days or open trainings? Yet alone the dream of one day getting the same privileges as Richmond and Collingwood to host reserves and women’s games. This stinks 1 Quote
