At the end of the day we need to make the right decisions on the list. Frost is better than McDonald but we will get a better deal for frost than the former.

oMac is contracted Frost is not. That's about the only difference in the club's position on the 2.

On SEN last week Frost said he was waiting to hear from Melbourne on a ‘fresh deal’. He’d been offered one earlier in the season but rejected it.

Tickets-Frost: “Based on my age (26) and the year I’ve had, I imagine there would have been a few phone calls but I don’t know how serious a lot of those phone calls are or aren’t so I’ll just leave that to (manager) Anthony (McConville).”

Shouldn’t he be looking to maximise his earnings as a limited player in probably his last AFL contract? Tickets doesn’t match with Frost for mine.

I remember when Shaun Mckernan kicked 4 on Sam Frost at the start of the year..

That was funny..

Jack Darling also kicked 4 on Frost in Darwin.

Josh Kennedy bagged 4 goals straight against Frost in round 9 this year. Same Josh Kennedy that kicked another 4 against old Frost balls in the prelim last year. After that performance, it was exact reason why club went after Steven May.

Yep. Frosty sure did destroy Kennedy........

Tomlinson does nothing in the GF against the Tigers and you describe it as “Like every other Giants player out there, being overawed by the occasion.” Tigers would of most likely destroyed any other team last Saturday, and in the process make a lot of players look second rate. Was it after that performance that the Giants were happy to let him or go or had that seen enough of that earlier in his career?

In last years preliminary final loss to WCE who went on to win the flag, we got destroyed in similar fashion to the Giants last week. The Eagles would of most like destroyed anyone that week and Kennedy would of kicked at least 4 on anyone with the amount of supply he had that day.

Darling had his best season kicking 59 goals 18 behinds. He kicked multiple goals on multiple defenders, most likely even against teams that competed in the finals.

In a season where the team as whole capitulated Frost is one of a handful of players that played well. He may of been beaten on occasions but he also shutdown his fair share of forwards.

From the HS this morning

HAWTHORN’S luring of Melbourne full back Sam Frost on a multi-year deal came after the Demons had declined to offer him a deal.

Melbourne believes Oscar McDonald can fill the third defensive tall option alongside Steven May and Jake Lever, even though Frost was ninth in the Demons best-and-fairest this year.

AS stated earlier I am a Frost fan but it appears there was NO offer to Frost and even scarier is their blind faith in Oscar. I fear this is a mistake.

You're reading too much in to that.

There's no point offering Frost a below par contract that he won't take. It then gets leaked to the media - 'Melbourne offered him 350k, he's worth 600k, how cheap are the demons'. If we've made peace with him leaving there's no point chasing after him with a below market deal.

I doubt Oscar is the long term answer and I'd bet the club knows that he's not a world beater, he's just a cheap option who's signed up and it's not impossible to win games with him. If May and Lever play like the A graders we hope they are then we can't be spending big money on a 3rd guy who isn't even that good.

He’ll go to the Hawks for their third rounder (pick 47ish). We lose the trade IMO, but that’s the game.

Thanks for the service and exciting moment Frosty!

Absolutely, but talking yourself up on radio when you’re an average player isn’t going to maximise your earnings. You just come across as a bit of a tool. Just my opinion. I do wish him well though, just hope he sucks against us.

He might have just wanted to switch clubs regardless of whether we made him an offet or not.

Oscar mcd player on Mckernan.  Check the tape.

Frost was moved onto Kennedy after Omcd had been beaten in Perth. Your memory is poor.

You might want to question Oscar mcd and see who he has ever beaten.

Btw.  You campaigning to get Harley Bennell. What a joke.

Not quite as funny as anyone suggesting dazzler question OMac and see who he has ever beaten.

A joke that would be even funner if it was suggested STMJ or jnrmac might want to question OMac and see who he has ever beaten.

By the way the answer to the question is Omac has beaten very power forward in the league.

Salem Lever Hibberd

Where does Frost fit in?

As mentioned earlier who’s plays on the two talls that some teams have?

Lever May Jetta

Salem Frost ?

Hibberd can go, I’m personally over him, he’s 30 next year and it will be the last year of his contract. Too slow and not currently doing enough. We need to look to the future, then we’ve got Jetta who’s contracted for two more years. I think it’s better to start blooding someone new off half back next season and then look to replace Jetta the year after that. If we use pick 3 in the draft on someone quick that can kick the footy he could be used off half back with stints through the midfield. I’d prefer Frosty stay, he most likely won’t but regardless we also need to move on some other players.

I reckon we'll really regret this.

Our backline is brittle and small apart from May.

Jetta is awesome but getting on. How much longer can we keep playing him on bigger blokes and continue to see him crunched?

Lever and May, will they be fit?

Oscar? Pfft

Lockhart is good but small.

Frost has improved every year.

The game is getting faster and faster.

He's got great closing speed.

He wasn't used enough last year for kick ins and breaking lines.

He's our second big backman and he's off.

Roos built our team from the backline up.

It's looking shaky and Tomlinson ain't going to fix it.

this might have already been answered on this thread, but what if anything would we get in return for frost leaving.

also imo, him leaving just does not sit comfortably with me considering our track record with defenders (howe and dunne for example) leaving and becoming really good footballers.

anyway, thanks for your service frosty and good luck at hawthorn.

There is a difference between asking for an amount and the club actually giving an offer. If Frost via his manager asked for X but the club was only prepared to pay Y there is no offer.

Frosty has the athletic profile of a running half back flanker but not the skill profile of a running half back flanker. Can run and carry but poor game sense/disposal means he does not capitalise on his metres gained.

He has the height and build of key defender but not the skill set. Is not great one on one under a high ball, either spoiling or marking.

What is that profile worth dollarwise within the cap?

Agree on all points.

I spoke to Frosty at the GF and he seemed very genuine is his comments that he wanted to stay with the Demons. Yes, I know, he was speaking to a stranger and that is what you would expect him to say. However, he seemed very genuine.

If the choice was between May, Oscar and Frosty, I would pick Frost.

May comes for the money, turns up overweight and quickly runs into injury problems. He bawls out Frosty in a  match, a terrible look, something best left to a private space.  Not leadership, simply hot tempered and belittling.

The most improved bloke in the second half of the season is not wanted over three aging injury prone players or a bloke who has shown no improvement since his first game.

My other concern is the way the club has managed the Frost discussion. Lever comes out several weeks ago and comments on the defenders but does not speak of Frost. Poor form. The club then appears to be mute on Frosty's future. Nothing appears to be have been said to Frosty. He is kept in the dark.

For God's sake, as a matter of good people management and decency, the coach could at least speak to Frosty and tell him that he does not fit into his plans for 2020 and that he will not be offered a contract etc. Or if he is offered a contract that it will be a low offer

A bit like Watts, the club does not appear to have talked to the player. If this is true, its poor player management. At least have the honesty and decency to be upfront with the player.

It may be a dog eat dog market, but the coach and the club should have some guts and show some decency and respect to the player.

It sends a bad message to other players and is not the way to foster team morale.

Is this the way Richmond would have acted ?

As per Max Gawn's comments, perhaps only some of the players are brothers.

Wasn't their 3rd pick earmarked for Patton? Maybe they'll offer them or us a future 3rd, doesn't seem that enticing with next years draft being highly compromised with academy picks. Their next pick in this years draft after 47 is 84 pending other trades.

If we could do something like Frost and 58 for pick 30 we would be doing well. Values frost at pick 39 on the draft points index.

You'd pick Frost over May and Lever? Can you get a list management job at another AFL club so the Dees can trade with you!

May and Lever are much better footballers than Frost.

May did turn up overweight but from day 1 of preseason worked hard on the track and adopted a better eating plan to strip the weight off. For mine his weight issue should have been picked up at time of trade so the changes made from day 1 of preseason started in October. A more gradual remediation may have also meant he avoided the groin and hammy injuries.  May will start preseason in good nick which should set him up for a good season.

Hibberd will hopefully be depth only in 2020. He's just not as fast as he was  in his prime.

That is exactly the puzzle I cannot work out.

I would have moved Hibberd on before Frost

The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
