I am in Bellagio on holidays and just heard this sad news from a guest at the hotel. I know some of Spuds family so I am devastated for them.

You just never know when your time is up. Embrace each day.

RIP Spud.??

It was his birthday yesterday.  He always made me laugh on mmm Saturday arvos. I still can't believe it.

He wore his heart on his sleeve and I just feel for his wife and daughters.

I can't help but think of gaz who has now lost 2 great mates in the years gone

The day Garry outed him on MMM for having his teeth whitened was some of the funniest radio ever.

Some of his best moments on triple M. This was the Saturday rub at its best..  Garry, JB, Spud and Purple was just the perfect team.

Use to love tuning in at 12pm every saturday in the car on my way to playing footy.

Rip Spud

A mate of mine has been good friends with Danny for a couple of decades and worked with him at the Tigers. We were talking about Spud only a month ago and he was in tears of laughter reciting some of the funny stories from their past. Sounded like a ripping bloke. He also spoke of how highly he thought of Spud for opening up and getting help for his depression.

Vale Spud

Might know your mate.

At one stage Spud lived in the street behind our house. More recently, I used to see him at Princes Park, Caulfield when he was coaching an amateur women’s team near where one of my grandson’s teams trained. He was dedicated to the game and achieved so much.

Condolences to his wife and family.

My 5yo great-nephew plays AFL for the Lantau Lizards in Hong Kong.  Two weeks ago Spud was there for an inter-club carnival, giving the kids tips:

The side of him few people would see how much and how far he went to give back to the game.

He touched so many.  RIP.

Terrible news. My heart goes out to his family and friends.

Life is short. Don’t waste it.

For someone I’m not sure I’ve ever met, this is surprisingly gut-wrenching.

Vale Spud.

Adds another layer to an absolute tragedy.

He made me laugh. Belly laugh. In a world of sadness he brought me happiness. His train of thought was as quick as it gets. He was the Australian Robin Williams. I will not eat spuds again without thinking of him. My sincere condolences to his family. Vale Danny Frawley.

Jeepers Chip LeGrand could pull his big head in a little couldn't he. Doesn't take a genius to work out what might've happened, which is important but a job for the authorities. Not sure Spud's family needed their marriage and financial status aired in public, they've had the worst day possible already.

Wasn't my cup of tea in the media but the praise from his colleagues has been overwhelming. That's a life to be proud of. RIP.

Heard the news before it was released to the media and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since..truly devastating. Danny was one of the good guys.

Has hit home hard for me and I’m not entirely sure why...perhaps because he has three daughters and myself two, but I feel genuinely devastated for his wife and girls.

No matter how someone appears overtly on the surface, we never really know how they are feeling inside.

RIP Spud, I have always admired you, my condolences to your family and close friends.

Longest serving captain at St Kilda a great personality in the media  mainly on Fox tv.  Just a shock to all of us and will be sadly missed.

Gone to soon and not fair. Thoughts are with his loved one's.    RIP.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
