From a purely financial and list management perspective, any idea how much comes off the books with his retirement?

Congratulations on a remarkable Career Jordan! I was very pleased to have you aboard when you joined, it was a no-brainer for us really. And now, I'm hoping that you are offered a coaching roll, and that you would be keen to continue with us. Otherwise, best of luck in Football playing retirement.

Not one for reading the Tea leaves and conspiracy crapola, but the handshake didn't really appear to be too warm from Lewis? At the end, BV, TV and I wish another person with a V surname (think it was Gary Pert and Chaplin though) were around talking to him, but no Goodwin. Wondering if he actually did want to go around again?

His comments and those of Goodwin don't have me thinking he will be at Melbourne in a coaching capacity next year.

Anyway, he had a great career and came across when no one else would, trying to get us to take the next step. Still in our best 22 at the minute and giving more effort than most, despite him being almost done. Maybe he can Iron out Goldstein again (lets say legally this time) for old times sake to help us win Saturday! His efforts have been underrated by many since joining and he has been our best recruit up since Bernie Vince in my view.

Meanwhile, on the same day Melbourne have been nominated as one of the clubs interested in Jordan Roughead in a forward coaching role... coincidence? Well, yes, probably. but you can see the phone call;

"Hey Rough, I've been playing up forward here for a few weeks and they are a real mess. Structure gone, no confidence, can't do set shots. But, there's a bunch of actually pretty good players and I reckon you could whip them into shape in no time. Easy first gig? I'll send you my notes..."

It's not very often a great champion of the game will walk through the doors of the FD at the MFC.  A big thank you to Jordy and Todd for making it happen.

I'm just gutted we didn't make it to the big dance with him, the Jones boy, Viney, Clarry, Big Maxy and Harmes at least having the chance to play off together in a GF.

A truly sad day when a player who brings so much experience and winning ways to a club, gets up and announces his final game or two to the boys.

It's been an honor and a pleasure to watch Jordy pull on the red & blue and literally fight for the club.  He brought some venom and an edge that, along with Vince, AVB & Kent (on the limited occasions the last two have managed to play) brought to the group.

Three of those four have now departed and one may not make it back.  Worrying times for the MFC.  Could be a long difficult climb out of a very deep pit from here.

Hope he stays and finds a place as an assistant somewhere but more likely he will move on to other interests.

Good luck and thanks for some memorable times Mr Lewis.  You will be missed.

Whilst I have been quick to bag the club this week, points to them for including Clarko in the presser and to him for joining in. I am sure it would have been appreciated by Jordy . I see he asked for job offers can the club take note.

I'll keep my thoughts about his Melbourne career elsewhere but I will say it was nice of Clarko to be at the press conference because Lewis had a long and successful career at Hawthorn.

Goffy that isn’t noughts and crosses, that’s this weeks game plan up on the board! If the Kangeroos get hold of that we are stuffed! 

Clarko was right.

He was good at going 3rd man up, then they change the rules.

He was good at going to his knees sliding in, then they changed those rules.

 

Clarko knew the rules made him more ineffective by 10-20%, then you have age.

 

Lewis has been OK in the last half of this year and goes out on a medium.

Leaders need to stand up when it's most needed OR when things aren't going well.

Most needed?  PF 2018.  Cross.

Not going well?  2019. Tick.

Interesting that Jordan has had a longer career and played more games than Nathan Jones across two clubs but has had only 2 coaches (3 including the games Brendan Bolton coached while Clarkson took time off to recover from an auto immune illness), compared to Jones who has had 8 senior coaches (including caretakers) :

But it was his call. He even said in the press conference that the thought of playing on definitely crossed his mind, but then the thought of going through a whole pre season was just too much for him mentally.

I think most of them have also retired from their performances and efforts !! however on a serious note Lewis has been invaluable to us with his experience and knowledge of the game and I can only wish and hope he and Roughy join us in coaching roles.

Looks to me like he spend all morning with Goody and also Clarko, so he might have been trying to talk to others as well. I think you've drawn the long bow trying to find something in the last 10 seconds of a 5 minute clip, in which Goody spoke warmly of Lewis. 

Anyway, it was always clear this was going to be his last year, and he's already got media commitments lined up. I'd love to see him stay on in some capacity, in the same way Vince and Cross have as well.
