It’s odd the Omac hasn’t played at any level in the past two games. Not on the injury list. I was thinking perhaps some time away from playing. He has been struggling and no doubt that would take its toll.

I said in the last see you later omac thread that after being dropped that perhaps he is struggling a bit with his mental health in part realted to tbe bagging he cops on social media (and dl is part of the social media landscape). And that perhaps with the bye the club might have given him a break to freshen up.

Not picked at casey this week and not on the injury perhaps my concerns might have some validity

So I find it quite weird that another se ya later thread has popped up about omac. With fans like us who needs opposition supporters?

Also find it strange that on this very thread people are pointing out how well frosty is travelling. And that most (But not all thankfully) dont see the irony in this. Frost could not get s senior game until half way through last year. He was at casey working on what he needed to sort out.. He is at least a year older than omac. Surely frost is the perfect example of the folly of writing players off, as many posters did on dl and of the capacity of players to develop and improve.

This really is a stupid thread.

Contracted till the end of 2020.

Has shown some capacity to be a servicable backman over the past 4 years as a small, young developing player.  Why would we put in all that time and development into a guy just to let him go now.

Steve May and Michael Hibbard are not exactly spring chicken either, so if Oscar can continue to build his game over the next few years, we could well have the need for another key back.

He is just not ready yet, despite all the experience and preparation opportunities that he has had/enjoyed. This, however, is not a strong reason to dismiss him - just continue the learning, development and physical building roles. He could obviously do with a considerable amount of sprint training as his strength improves. He could, in future, develop better than he has so far and could be an acceptable adjunct to the backline or even, as some suggest, be transferred to a forward role (both functions as items of team depth) should his speed improve. He does kick well. He does need reasons to tag his psyche to greater toughness, speed and competitiveness, and must appear onfield as a player keen to compete for the ball at every opportunity and additionally, provide Team co-operation.

For the doomsayers who have put him inthe the hopeless useless, never , his fault that we leak goals, his fault that we cannot kick goals etc.

Let's put some comparisons out there :

OMac  196 cm /1900 kgs 23 y.o

Frosty (the inventor of "Frostball" . 194/93 A month off 26 y.o

Weid : 195/97 ( also responsible for causing the Iceberg to drop into the Anntarctic sea and float up to hit the Titanic)  22 y.o

Lever 195/91 23 y.o  ( has been likened to JC !!)

Common thread all these players have different abilities and levels of. But Weid is still considered as a WIP, Frosty after surviving numerous postings is now the flavour of the month, sorry week (a month is too long)

They are all big kids , let them develop and assess their worth to the Club when their career is finished.

In the meantime it is time to get off this blokes back !!!!! Enough is enough

63 posts and not one person has commented that we might not see Oscar again because he pro-actively seeks out and succeeds in being traded at the end of the year. I'm not saying that's what will happen, because I have no idea. But by now surely we all know that it's not just a decision for the club alone to make.

Metaphorically i suspect he is. 

This MFC post game interview with Tom (with a young fella, whose name escapes me, that i'm increasing coming to like) gives a fascinating insight into Tom, and perhaps also his brother.

He is is quite an interesting cat, Tom. Very open about his feelings and doesn't speak in cliches. His response to the question about the importance of confidence is quite revealing.  Worth a listen, but in a nutshell he says confidence is THE most importance thing.

I suspect Omac has a similar temperament. Certainly both had off season surgeries and as a result interrupted preseasons and both have been struggling for form and confidence.

Agree... it's the likely scenario and what footballer wouldn't seek greener pastures if not reasonably guaranteed a game. (See Tyson)

Aha, all has been revealed:

"The Demons pulled McDonald out of all playing for three weeks and put him through an intensive three-week weights and agility program to build his body and confidence.

"In the first part of the season Oscar was not able to do what he wanted to do and we had to find a way to help him get back to playing the footy he knows he can play," Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said. McDonald did have an operation after the end of the season and missed a large portion of the pre-season which had set him back, Mahoney said."

Perhaps our new "elite performance" guy, or whatever his title will be, can help here?

It was not that long ago that people were asking this question with regards to Frost. I think Oscar will look to work on his game a directed by the coaches and look forward to his next opportunity to force his way into the side.

"Melbourne has put young defender Oscar McDonald through a mid-year mini pre-season to try to unlock his struggling form by helping him build his light body to compete with the big power forwards.

The Demons pulled McDonald out of all playing for three weeks and put him through an intensive three-week weights and agility program to build his body and confidence.

The coaches, including senior coach Simon Goodwin, have joined him in doing extra weights sessions.

The mini pre-season has been structured to be timed around the bye to limit the games missed as the club sought a way to lift his form.

"In the first part of the season Oscar was not able to do what he wanted to do and we had to find a way to help him get back to playing the footy he knows he can play," Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney said.

"In the end it got to a stage where something had to be done to get him back playing the footy we know he can play. He did a mini pre-season for three weeks tying it into the bye round.

"The role he plays he is on the biggest strongest forwards in the competition so a lot of it was around strength and weights. We have done similar programs with Sam Weideman earlier in the year when he missed a few weeks. [Rookie tall player] Austin Bradtke as well."

He's been apparently doing a 'mini-preseason' according to the club. What do you know hey? Development. At the MFC no less. Coaches have been doing bits of it with him. Love it. Investing in a young player rather than 'delisting or trading' because he's down the pecking order currently.
