Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This sentence, in this post. Is that irony, hypocrisy or both?

neither - May is old and slowing and we have many with the same skills set. May has a limited future and Hogan will be productive long after May is finished. May will get the chance to prove himself but so far I am not convinced we got the best of this trade, we pushed Hogan out the door.

For full clarity though, let's remember the full trade scenario ended up being:

OUT: Hogan, Pick 65 (which they didn't use)

IN: May, Kolodjashnij, Sparrow

May is old and slowing in the same way that Gawn is old and slowing. Mays 'limited' future takes us through to 2023-2025 depending on his health. There's a lot of water to go under the bridge between now and then. Brian Lake only played 3 years for Hawthorn... May won't be our games record holder but he is more than capable of helping us get some silverware.

Hogans numbers are still better than these three put together. Sparrow may have a future but The Suns boys have been unproductive and struggled to get on the park. KK seems soft and injury prone, May is just plain over rated.

May was not in good enough shape to make the team, he has played one full game and was ordinary and unaccountable, like his fitness. I do not think there is a forward in the league that would hold any fears about being matched up on May, most would love it as much as the pies forwards did.

Probably need a sample size bigger than 1 game before judging it myself, but you're entitled to your opinion.

You can prove almost anything with dodgy stats deeH.

For example Hogan has been replaced in the forward line this year by Jayden Hunt who has kicked more goals than Hogan this year, Hunt has more tackles, more inside 50's, more goal assists, better disposal efficiency, more clearances, more rebound 50's, more metres gained, more intercepts etc, etc, so we are better off. Plus we have May KK and Swallow for free!

Edit :- Italics indicate jest and ridiculous use of stats.

Hardly news MD.

I know but I was making a point about the dodgy use of stats, if I could be bothered I think I could find some stats showing an improvement on last year. I am not going to look as it could lead to severe depression!

Edit: So I did look at big Max.

50% more kicks, 20% more disposals, 50% more inside 50's, and double the clearances this year. ☹️

If we are better off then why are we having such a bad year? These three have not really proved they are worth anything yet. We have just about swapped spots on the ladder with Freeo from last year. We do not have any consistent key forwards. Hunt is doing better than last year but results suggest we are not better off.

I didn't mean we were better off, I was pointing out the folly in arguments based solely on stats. We are much worse than last season but it is not because Hogan left.

Hogan kicked 47 goals in 20 matches for the MFC last season.

Weideman AND McDonald have kicked a COMBINED 16 goals in 20 matches for the MFC this season.

31 goals less from your TWO key forwards.

This is despite Melbourne having had the SECOND HIGHEST NUMBER of forward entries of all clubs so far in 2019.

Not dodgy stats at all ManDee. Just reality.

I understand, in the end the only statt that matters is the score board and that start says we are terrible.

Hogan is scoring half as many goals this year per game compared to last year.

Sam Weideman is the same as last year. (Goals per game)

Tommy Mac is having a mare, however he is up on turnovers and clangers.

Edit: Please attempt to see humour, I understand that we are putrid this year.

Since Jesse Hogan left Melbourne and joined Freo, the teams' fortunes have swung, with the Dockers pushing for a finals berth and the Dees sliding down the ladder.

One could feel it coming....

Probably the only thing to get a crowd along... could be as low as 16k but I think we will just crack 20k.

When was the last time Freo won at the MCG?

They just beat collingwood there and from what I can remember haven’t had any issues beating us at the G.

Agree Deeh......

Not sure Hunt is better than last year......sure hes played more games & kicked a few goals but his efficiency is down this year to an average of 67% (75% 2018) & meters gained at 225m (309m 2018). Marks almost exactly the same as last year too.....I mean how is someones year measured against previous year?

Uncontested marks, disposals,, distance covered etc? He does however look better for me in the forward line & less margin for error as we hope hes shooting for goal more often.

I agree that we are no better off at this point.....[censored] in fact!

Turn Tom Mac out for three weeks, send him North to dabble his toes in the Gold Coast surf and bring in Pruess.

For gods sakes Goodwin we need to see what he can offer.

Try to turn Stretch into a tagger. He is fit and can run well and his body, although not super strong, is just about fully mature. Otherwise he is lost to us. We need to make better players with the players we have got.

Send Jack Viney with Tom Mac North for some rest and toe time in the gold coast waters, he's giving us nothing and the whole team balance is out with Jack and Jones in the same team.

Send Spargo back to the VFL for the rest of the year and play him in the guts to try and toughen him up otherwise he is just going to become the whipping boy of Demonland which is really unfair for a young kid in his second year (some of you ought to be ashamed).

Bring in JKH for a good 3 weeks and then lets see what we've got. I think he could be okay. Lockhart as well.

Stop playing Fritsch back. He is a half forward flanker. Play him there Goodwin and be done with it, your ruining him.

Fritsch is a beautiful kick but has horrible peripheral vision. He needs to kick at goal where it can’t get intercepted.

When he goes down back he nails his kicks at our blokes but doesn’t see the opposition coming across who ultimately intercept it.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
