Dayne Beams officially ruled out with hip injury.

I think the kid they will have coming in (Sier) might be a better bet than Beams at the moment, whose form line hasn't been great.

Sier will have a lot of clubs chasing him in the off season if he can't nail down a permanent spot.

Would suit us with Jones coming near the end.

Agreed. Offer Sier a 3 year deal and see what we can land.  Oliver Harmes Viney and one more bull. Though an outside running skilled mid is the Priority!!

No Taylor Adams, Elliot, Dunn, wells, Beams, Langdon. Question mark over Cox and Grundy but they reckon Grundy will play.

After just beating Sydney Bd losing to freo at home they are certainly not in their best form

thats right, I’m getting my hopes up already!

Yes Definitely Dub keep your hopes high. I have a really good feeling. Cant wait to smash them.

Is Mason Cox available to play? Are we the only team who makes him look good?

Would they bring him straight in to AFL? He hasn’t played for 5 weeks. Richmond also made him look like a superstar in the prelim.

If playing jeffy,  or other passer by,  gets us artificially up the ladder...   and cost us a  Hayden Young,  Lachie Ash,  or a Dylan Stephens/Caleb Serong.  I will go  berko,  after this wasted season.

Too much wasted already,  to give up a top 6 pick for something lesser.... unless we traded say a pick 4 or 5,  for two 1st Rnd picks.

And a classy sounding forward... Dylan Williams.

Surely by now we recognise that this type of thinking is fools gold. Much better to get our best side on the park and build some momentum and confidence going into next year.

Bloody hope the Bucks vs Mick feud will take the Magpie's minds off the game.

Get stuck into each other fellas! Don't hold back!

I don't understand this. Why are grown men feuding?

Not in the maturity sense

They're not - media just pumping up a comment from Buckley who was pragmatically answering a question regarding Malthouse. He was very complimentary in a diplomatic way, whilst also being clear they don't get on... nor should that matter.

Thanks Radar.   I've been looking for this post, Re the idea of the Pick swaps.   I couldn't find it earlier today.

Of course we would be trying to win all games,  but players who are carrying long-term niggles need to go off to get them right...  Or fixed up by the surgeon.  We don't need to find that old manic form of last year,  now.  It would only be for supporters to hold faith.

The longer term skills  &  abilities of our list,  is far more concerning than our early 2019 season form, which is now history.

We can't manage him in the firsts...

At Casey he can have long periods off the ground, he's more likely to get a soft tissue injury with the intensity at AFL level.

Agree, no Lever please.

Garlett averaging 7 kicks over last 2 seasons. Averaged 1g3b this yr 1g 6b last yr.

Delusional

I should have known I needed to do more.

Garlett can find the footy in the forward line. 9 touches in the 50 last week, 9 against the Eagles three weeks ago.

No forward is prolific but he is the closest we have to a functioning forward who can find it in the right places.

I don’t really care, this season is done and Garlett is probably in his last season in footy. But our forward line has been an absolute disaster this year - not all of it is at the feet of delivery. It is also at the feet of how we set up in the forward line and also how the FD place defensive pressure well above above forward nous.

Was there a Goody presser today? Looks like both Lever and May will play should the former get through tomorrow’s session.

Simon Goodwin not prepared to write off 2019 as Steven May and Jake Lever look to play

Add Salem and possibly Hore, the outs will be interesting.

Based on our weakest/worst 4 players from last week's squad the outs would be:

1) Wagner - Lever

2) O Mac - May

3)  Stretch - Salem

4) Spargo - Hore

The last two outs are not like for like so it may not be as simple as that.

JFK may be in danger, Hannan did nothing (but will remain as he's best 22) and Weid and T Smith are always on the borderline.

I have a gut feel one of Hore or Lever doesn't get up.

Wagner and O Mac are the two certainties. Wagner has actually been serviceable insurance this year.

That can work if Fritsch moves to the forward line in place of Spargo and Hore takes Fritsch's position in the backline. Alternatively, Fritsch could go to the wing and JKH from the wing to the forward line.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.
