Changes v Gold Coast Suns

Re the Frost v OMac debate, Frost has his faults, but as you can see in the last couple of minutes, Frost at least has a crack and takes the game on, OMac just doesn't.

Unfortunately the GC train line only goes as far as varsity... So you will likely need to get a bus to varsity then a train to Nerang then a bus to metricon

Or the bus from Palm Beach along Gold Coast Highway to bus station at Broadbeach then the Footy bus from there

Thanks @GCDee and @Docs Demons - that looks like a better option...

"We need to maintain core stability" according to Hemingway. More like "core instability". We fell over the line by 5 points and got lucky for once and now have two wins. Forget injuries, operations and limited prep. Either O'Mac takes the game on and shows a bit more footy nous, awareness and attack or he'll be treading the same water that Petracca sank in.

It can't just be "this payer for that" because of one or two incidents or because we loathe certain players. Looking over the four quarters there were actually very few 4-quarter players, as each and every one had some very poor patches.

Two main issues for me:
1. Our mental fragility. We have lost the chaotic, press forward, run your guts out, manic attack from the last half of 2019 which required a fairly arrogant sense of ability. The players simply BELIEVED. Apart from  current and obvious fitness/surgery issues it is this  underlying lack of mental confidence and freedom which makes us so wobbly. I see it returning a little more each week but I reckon Weideman was one of the leading sufferers. So who are the other players who are suffering this. Omac? Petracca (occasionally). TMac? Hibberd? Others?

2. The Suns are quick - very quick - and we have seen what speed does to us on the outside. Our main game is  winning at the contest then spreading with precision, power and confidence. We might have 1 or 2 too many lumbering types whose lack of pace could be costly. Can we keep OMac, Lewis, Hibbo, ANB, Hore in the team while adding Preuss? Probably not.

Not being fully up to date about injuries from the Hawks game, I reckon 2 of OMac, Lewis, Hibbo, ANB , Hore to be moved out. But then, looking through the available players there is a continuing lack of pace.

Weather forecast for Brisbane next Saturday is sunny and a maximum of 23 with a stiff breeze.

Should not be too much different on the Gold Coast. The match starts at 4:35pm.

We have struggled in the heat so far this year and while this is pleasant weather it's the kind of weather that a fast team excels in.

Could be a close one.

Whilst I agree that Omac has not been in as good a form as his last half of 2018, it's worth remembering he has just turned 23 and is still developing both his game and body.

People need to remember that guys his size often don't reach their peak until 26 or even later. I have Richmond supporting mates who hated Alex Rance for his first 4-5 years. Btw, I'm not saying Omac is equal to Rance.

Omac has 62 game under his belt. The marker for AFL player development his usually around 100 games. I saw enough good things last year to tell me he's worth persevering with.

He's had a few mares this year and is the type of player who looks dreadful when out of form. Apart from the last quarter yesterday he was ok, considering he's coming back from a spell and has also had concussion. He'll be better for the run, and the game against GCS will hopefully build his confidence further.

Some posters think Omac was gifted games too early in his career and are calling for Petty to be selected. Careful what to wish for or we may do the same thing again.

Clearly the FD see Omac as part of our future. I'm glad their memories aren't as short as ours

Oscar last half of 2018 was cr@p.  Thats when Frosty changed peoples minds with his suddenly found delivery while on the run.

Oscar has not played well since this time last year.

Preuss in for Keilty. Not that Keilty was poor but Preuss really impacted when he has played. I’d give Weideman more time to get consistent form.

Viney in for Stretch. Which I don’t like saying as I’d love them to give Billy a month or so. Not sure who else we’d drop for him. Maybe Garlett.

It’s going to be 22 in Surfers on Saturday afternoon with an overnight low of 10. So you’d think it will be about 20 degrees at the opening bounce and perhaps 16 or 17 degrees in the last quarter.

Yes you’re right we’ve struggled mightily in the heat this year (Port, Dons, Saints), however I’d be flabbergasted if we struggled in a game in the high teens/low 20’s- after sun set.

Fritsch might be be in danger of being dropped. Has struggled mightily this year, particularly the last 3 weeks. Did improve after he nailed a lovely set shot just before half time, however he stuffed up literally everything before then.

I think he's going through an issue that many good kickers go through in their careers, when they lean back too much when kicking and try and lazily finesse a pass, but end up looping it up a bit. Should be easily fixed.

Lewis.

Leave Stretch and Garlett in, they played their role well against the hawks.

Could ppl stop posting that. He is only 23.

He is 23yo ffs. Not a 18 yo finding his way.

Alex Pearce is younger, Harris Andrews is younger, Aaron naughton is what 20.

Considering we sold the farm for may and lever, I would think omac isn't the future.

He loses so many contests when he has the advantage.

Wait till he is 27. ?

I wouldn’t be a fan of dropping Keilty (or any other first game player). They need time to adjust and get some momentum. We currently don’t have any KPP’s waiting to come back, might as well get some games into Keilty.

He was a late in for Tim Smith.

Keilty wouldn't be playing if pruess was fit n pruess should be back

Whilst I agree with Lewis being dropped, I don’t even bother putting it out there. We all know he won’t be dropped.

Exactly.

I don't mind the idea of Keilty having another game, because, like Ethan, I like first gamers getting a second opportunity.  Unless they had a mare, which he didn't.

But anyone thinking that Keilty's game was so good they'll retain him and drop Oscar only to put Keilty down back when he's trained all year as a defender isn't thinking clearly.

That said, Keilty may have to make way for Preuss.  He was a late call up for Tim Smith after-all.

We're in the business of winning games of footy and picking our best team will dictate selection.  They may want Preuss in or decide to recall Weideman, in which case Keilty may have to make way.

Our forward ground ball gets were the best they’ve been against the Hawks with only two genuine talls up there.

I think it’s unlikely they’re playing Preuss and Keilty in the same side up forward due to this, however GC has 4 tall defenders (Murdoch, Joyce, Collins and Hombsch) so having Preuss in there as well may work.

If they go with that, then I’d say:

Ins: Preuss

Out: Fritsch

That is an interesting take.. Picking a forward line based on defenders. Not being smart, just never heard of that- thought forwards dictated defensive composition.

Purely based on the fact if they don’t lower their eyes and instead bomb it in long, then 4 tall defenders could dominate in the air.

Mind you, none of their tall defenders are that much chop, although Collins has revitalised his career after Ross Lyon got rid of him.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
