Non MFC games Round 2

Interesting start to the Port vs Carlt game.  Port 4.2.26 to Carlton 5.2.32 just before Qtr time.

Will be rather shattered if Carlton win or run Port to the line in a close loss.

When he was fit he was normally best 22, and gave us something up forward. We offered a 1 year deal because of the injuries, saints offered 3 i think. I hope his body holds up and has a good career. But if i had the choice for a spot on the list  between a fit kent and a maynard or hore, i would be picking dean any day of the week

Charlie Curnow down into the rooms with a knee injury. He was running straight like chasing to tackle and just suddenly went down. Barely change of direction or anything. Very strange knee injury. Let's hope it's not serious, as knee injuries are striking hard across the league thus far this season.

Because we need speed in our forward half, with Hannan out for most of the year Kent would be very handy for us right now

So you also believe he said it deliberately. Fair enough. I just don’t think he attacked a disabled person on TV intentionally.

I'm not sure he did, Red. Possibly.

He does so little research on the subject of his topic, it's professionally inept.

However, he has said stupid, insulting things sooooo many times on air/TV that it's time he should be brutally taken to task. But who would do that? Not Gill, not the Coll board, not the media companies. He makes faux apologies and then repeats another insult 12 mths later. Such a blokey industry.

Irrelevant as to intention. He did so .

He's a buffoon. Any which way or why...he did so. Prime ignoramus.

I didn’t put words in your mouth, you posted “whether it was deliberate or not “ and by that I thought you were conceding it might not have been deliberate.

However you know what Eddie intended, so what is the point of discussing it with you.

Eddie saw what was going on, that’s why the comment was made.

If he hadn’t seen what took place there would have been no mention of it.

Rather simple really.

He completely stuffed up and tried to squirm out of it.

He should have been banned from on air work after his Adam Goodes comments, but as Eddie is the “king of the boys club” nobody stood up to him as usual

I’m friends with Cynthia, who tossed the coin, and I spoke to her partner earlier today. They were putting on a brave front but I could tell they were absolutely gutted, not just by the comments, but at being forced into the spotlight because of that bumbling fool.

The subtext of the apology - that it’s ok to mock someone but not if they’re an ‘inspirational’ and ‘courageous’ plane crash survivor - was equally pathetic - “I wouldn’t have said it if I’d known it was Cynthia.”

Thankfully, the Swans hit the right note with their statement condemning McGuire, which said that everyone invited to toss the coin is chosen because of their love of the club and game, and none of them deserve to be humiliated on national television.

Grrrrrrrr ???

I have a fair idea how she would feel.

Pass on my regards and strength. This will take a few days to pass over

Feel horrible for Cynthia, my deepest sympathies. No one deserves to be ridiculed on national television, least of all an amputee who has already suffered so much.

Just another example of white male privilege in an industry dominated by the elite boys club. Pathetic stuff. As usual it'll be slept under the rug and ultimately ignored, with the instigator ultimately rewarded with a pay rise and bigger exposure.

If it was a someone like Robbo we could say he doesn't know any better.  But as a club President, Eddie knows it is a special honour to toss the coin.  It doesn't matter who it was, ridicule of the coin toss is totally inappropriate.

So his comments should be condemned for what they were not because of who the person was.  An extra layer of condemnation because it was said of a very admirable person.  Add another layer for his lack of contrition last night that led him to make another apology today.

He may live in Toorak but will always be a Broady bogan.

I missed the second half, but the Bombers were absolutely garbage in the first half and I enjoyed it a lot. Hopefully the final score just reflects St Kilda taking the foot off and not Essadon getting their shizz together and actually playing it proper football in the second half.

Oops!  Blues hit the front late in the 3rd.  Not bad given Charlie Curnow hasn't played since the first quarter.

Its hard to understand what happened to us last week ?

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
