I have a question mark over Viney. Named in the pocket.

Frost on watts. No. Omac on ryder. No.

Watts will play half back. Played there both JLT games. Ryder and Marshall will be their talls.

Lets call it nerves DV.

That little sick feeling in the tummy.

You need it as a player not so sure about the fans.

Yes  'hw'.  some nervous tension is a good thing,  as long as its not what I used to get...  too much Nervous tension was unbearable.

Often we'll see teams with nervous tension, in the first 5 mins making mistakes, getting in one another's way...   but once settled they usually take over the game.

No nervous tension often shows itself in teams,  "that didn't turn up to play"

Should win this....

Over the last two years I think we have played match up games and that's when we do very well, so all these new players for Port make me nervous.

Go Dees!

So i was planning to drive from Shepparton on Saturday with my sister who is also an MFC tragic. I honestly can't remember if we have ever attended a game together in our more than 50 years on earth, so i was really looking forward to it.

Tonight i got a message from someone i work with, who is the mother of a Port player in this rounds team. She asks if we are happy to go to the game with them. (This lady is also the nurse who controls my roster at work). The best part of this offer is that her husband is an absolutely MAD Dees supporter. OFC i said yes, we would be most happy to share the drive to Melbourne.

Long story short, i was asked if it was OK that we waited about 30 mins after the game so they could pop down to the rooms and see their boy. She also said it would be less of a wait if Port won.

My reply....

No worries, my sister and i will be busy singing "Its a Grand Old Flag" after the match..... take as long as you want. P.S. Why is it longer if you lose?

Her reply was in the screenshot attached.............

Is she cool with you posting that?

Funny message though.

I'm hoping her boys opponent has a good night, after a not so stellar pre season. (iirc who she is)

Congrats on big Maxy playing 100 games a fantastic achievement. I hope we can win by 5 goals minimum. Port's side doesn't look crash hot without Dixon and Wines. Hope we can get between 35 to 40 k to the game to make it even tougher on Port.

I am going to have nightmares that Watts plays a decent game.

Yes, and that perennial thorn in the side Justin Westoff, at 199cm , tests our height.

Danger game big time for me.

Love Fritsch being in as he can play tall.

Wagner's inclusion highlights our need for forward line pressure and crumbing forwards.

He's got a great opportunity to cement a place in the team.

Exactly right. People are worried about their 4 debutants, but we have some strong bodied, mature guys wanting to cement their spot in a potentially top 4 team. Wagner and Hore will be wanting to play well.

I'm tipping Ryder will have a tough time tomorrow with it being 31 degrees while wearing that giant stackhat on his head. Surely he won't be clunking them with it also obstructing his vision slightly.

Ports backline looks to be inexperienced- good opportunity for TMac, Weed and Melksham to do some damage. Would love to have seen AVB on Watts - there would have been some skid marks on his Skwosh shorts methinks

anxiety and high heart rate have already returned, MFCSS activated.

should be a good game and should be a win. Come on Dees!

god the instructions on the ptv site are confusing

really unclear as to whether or not trains are running

I went on to ptv trip planner and it seems to say that they are, i think i've got to get off at caulfield and board a different train.

As the game gets closer, I get less and less confident.

We have a few underdone players and I worry about their forwardline.

The mids will win it as always. On paper our midfield looks a class above theirs, but this is Melbourne. We could equally win or lose by 100 points.

Feels like this new season has crept up on us very quickly. Must be because we actually played past August last year.

I am on the Pakenham line so you get off at Caufield and then get a bus. No way. I will drive 10 minutes more to Belgrave. Had to do this last year for over 1/2  a season. Why they had to wait until the footy season to do this shizen is beyond me.

If I was a Port supporter, I'd be worrying that Ken Hinkley hasn't realised this is Round 1 and is instead picking a team to help him win a game of Scrabble.

One of the weakest 19-22 players I've seen selected in a Melbourne team for 3 years.

For us to win easy, Port need to be terrible (possibly what the situation is). But I think more realistically, we should win by 2 goals, but I'm not as confident as I was.

Maybe I should list the side that played 3 years ago for your comparison. It’s chalk and cheese. We are essentially 2 players off full strength

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
