I believe Maynard takes up that spare spot on the main list??

I had already factored him in for a spot on the main list before the draft at which time we still had 6 spots available. We ended up taking 5 players in the draft so I believe that still leaves one spot on the main list. I could be wrong.

Just double checked and yes, after the draft we have 39 players on our senior list including Maynard so we can select one more player.

Also have 3 players on the rookie list - Keilty, T Smith and C Wagner. So one spot there too.

We don't have to fill the main list. Can go 39 and 5.

I assume we'll pass in the PSD and take 2 rookies. Have 39 main list. 5 A rookies. 2 B rookies.

Okay.

Pardon my ignorance but what would be the club's reasoning for having one less player on the senior list and one extra on the rookie list?

Most likely either just balancing the list profile and/or salary cap space and contracts.

If you look at our existing rookies Tim Smith, Keilty and Corey Wagner could all easily be on the senior list. They are experienced VFL players who might well be handy enough depth on an AFL list. So it's not like we are short on experienced players in the 44.

We've just added 4 kids and 1 mature age player in Hore, we've got 2 more picks. It's probably better to have both of those picks as rookie picks on 1 year deals so we can take chances on guys who might not work out.

I think rookie base wages aren't counted in the salary cap either so it probably saves 80k you can use elsewhere.

Haha, indeed. It's general excellence these days. The APS doesn't allow sports scholarships.

Didn't Trenners captain PAC?

Yeah I think he did. Probably on one of those “general excellence” scholarships or his parents knew someone who knew someone. The Old Adelaide network. PAC has produced a lot of AFL footballers, boys from country SA.

Judd, Shiel, Ziebell, Goddard, T Phillips. Good pedigree. But yeah. I'm biased.

Not a bad list. Although all the APS schools have a fair crop of players. Carey, Xavier, Scotch, Haileybury, Wesley, Brighton. In the old days very few came from private schools but that has certainly changed over the past 10-15 years.

Like to see 3 Stingrays given a Casey Demons opportunity over the summer to get a spot.  Watched the TAC Cup Grand Final and believe these guys have further opportunities ahead.

Riley Bowman - 198 cms ruck/forward. Potential to be AFL ruckman with good skills and agility

Campbell Hustwaite - strong mid/half back.  Hibberd like attack.  Competitor.

Lachlan McDonnell - 190cms half fwd/half back.  Lovely kick and can nail a goal from the 50.

Carlton are still rubbish. No defenders and no midfield depth. Cripps or Kreuzer get injured and Adelaide is getting Pick 1 next year.

Carlton are 2 years behind us and have built very well, 2020 onwards they come into top 8 contention. Spine is all there 40 games more into their young nucleus and they'll pick up another ruckman and a few other pieces when Murphy Kruzear and Simpson retire to fill the holes. They have a good young list

B.   Jones       Weitering     Plowman

HB. Docherty  Marchbank    ?????

C.  Cunningham Cripps       Fisher

HF. Mcgovern    C.Curnow  Dow

F.   Pet-Seton     Mckay    ?????

R. ???, E.Curnow Walsh

IC from Stocker, Mcreadie, Kerr, Settefield, Pickett

Cripps aside, who is going to and get the ball? Cripps, Docherty and possibly Curnow aside who are the definite A grade talent based on exposed potential? A lot of what if there.

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
