That is brilliant. I love Hogan, but clearly he was homesick and plagued with issues not of his doing (father, etc). I hope he has a good career. I would love to see him in the red and blue again. He is the only high profile player we've lost that I genuinely hope does well at his new club.

Right.....so....what did you expect him to write??

Hogan is a gun. I never thought he was a forward though. Always thought he'd make a better CHB or FB. But, he doesn't strike me as the type of kid who wants to play down back. I reckon that may have been part the reason why we were keen to move him on. Either way, 6 & 23 is unders. But Jason Taylor works with whatever these muppets leave him. He will make 23 work. He is that good.

Remember that the gun player you wish for Taylor to pick up, needs to actually be available at that pick.

Granted, he has been amazing with his choices thus far, but we still rely on other recruiters missing the mark.

I reckon Bennett left in 93, which is the same year Neitz arrived, so they may have played the odd game together. Bennett would probably have played with Schwarz.

Regarding finals against Geelong. I don't remember a final against the Cats between 1989 and 2005.

Remember Schwarz, Bennett, Jako & Lyon lining up in the same forward line at times in 91-93

I'm relieved. I would’ve liked to get more than May plus pick 23 for Hogan (given that he's a marquee player), but I think this will improve our team structure/balance – and that’s what this is ultimately all about.

As an aside, Hogan always irked me. He was a perpetual fence sitter, a hedge better – in short, he never seemed to truly commit to the cause. And he looked super dopey.

On the other hand, Sam May is as hard as a box of nails. I think I love him. The KK bloke will be a rocket ship - his DNA goes back to the super effective Russian Kalashinkovs on the mid-1950s. He will be a great addition.

To sum up – a sensible trade. Hogan was never going to extend beyond next year, we knew that and we took control of the situation. Our defence next year will be impenetrable. Plainly, we have every other area of the ground well and truly covered.

I look forward to seeing Goodwin lift the Cup next year. Meanwhile, Hogan will be hanging out with his bozo mates at some under-age music festival in Yallingup smokin’ Winny Blues.

Now over to Jason Taylor to unearth some gems in the draft.

Go Dees.

I'm hoping Andrew Brayshaw gets very homesick this year after his terrible incident with Gaff. Would only be right and proper that Freo let him come to Melbourne on compassionate grounds. We'd be happy to give you Bell-ends a future 4th rounder....

I hope that we play Freo twice next year and smash them both times. I am sure that our players will give Jesse some friendly banter.

well i certainly don't think it was a fail, a loss, or anything like that

we have certainly filled a need

but i still feel that we got unders for hogan (not withstanding any navicular, back or 'character' issues)

so, onwards and upwards

I would be very disappointed if we were not already into his ear.

Do you own a Delorean Ethan?

I’m content with the trade but some of the other trades are annoying me. Two first rounders for Beams. Burton (2nd in RS), pick 15 and second rounder for Wingard. Hogan is worth more than either of them.

Grass is always greener etc.

The Beams trade is for pick 18 and likely pick 14-18 next year. 6 and 23 is a better deal, regardless of the the “first round” tag... in my opinion.

Fair call.

I am still sad. It will take a few days to walk away from this...

forwards have a special place in our game.

Umpires don't think so

bugger.....ill have to pick another pseudonym now that Hogan has gone- his not my hero anymore.

I'd spend the next 3 years planting the seeds of a return.

It's a different landscape and he'll hate being the centre of attention in a small town over the next few years.

I know it's a silly thought, but I don't care.

He’s lived on Melbourne for several years. Did he not make friends here? Doesn’t his Mum live in Adelaide now? It’s all about the money. Make no mistake. Why go to such a [censored] club when ours is on the way up?

He must have been offered a lot of money.

Quite the opposite:  "Jesse Hogan has taken a significant pay cut to get back to his family in Perth and play for Fremantle".

It makes his decision to go to Freo even more baffling: leaves a team on the brink of success for one at the bottom, takes only a three year deal and a pay cut.  Baffling.

Its no wonder we weren't able to get a better trade deal - much easier to get top picks if player is on a long-term multi $m deal.   Mahoney did a great job getting the deal he did.

Nope - I think it’s an astute trade in circumstances where Hogan couldn’t commit to the club in the long term.

He obviously has his reasons for this but, as a supporter, it’s not great to have your club’s marquee player under a cloud of constant speculation as to when he’ll leave - and Hogan never really ever fully extinguished the speculation. Players come and go, that’s inevitable - but the narrative around Hogan always felt as though the club was walking on eggshells. And IMO the MFC no longer needs to be that club.

I wish him all the best - he’s probably a nice enough fellow and, as we know, he’s an exceptional player.

BUT I’m stoked to have Sam May and KK on our list. They are hard, and strike me as being stoked to have joined the MFC - I expect they’ll be totally invested in the journey. I want to see that, unequivocally, in every player on our list.
