Clearly Goodwin doesn't rate Frost (I don't either), but it is good to see us with some balance back in the defence. Good luck to Petty on debut - I was excited about his recruitment more than any of other picks last year. We desperately needed another tall to free up Hibberd. Joel Smith gets a chance to show his worth in a more suitable role after an ordinary game last week.

I'd prefer Pedersen but more likely Weideman will come in to replace Tim Smith. That makes it four weeks in a row we have changed that role. FCS just pick someone and given them a few weeks to gel with Hogan & McDonald.

I'd give Vince the week off, and keep both Harmes & Tyson, but I wouldn't be surprised if both are dropped and Vince and Spargo play. Goodwin is seemingly making it up as he goes along at the moment.

I also agree with the inclusion of Petty in the named side at the expense of Tim Smith and similarly hope that Weideman features in the final side. I’d also give Vince time off as I would like to see Spargo back in as an effective crumbing forward and prefer to give both Fritsch and Stretch a run even if it is at the expense of both Tyson and Harmes.

"Tyson should play because you don't drop a player after one game".

Posters constantly surprise me with their creative outlook.

Tyson was insignificant against Port. And he most certainly didn't do his chances of playing this this game any good given the form of others at VFL level.

Hopefully we bring in someone who will actually help us improve in the areas we lack. Tyson doesn't do that.

I might well of missed it but i don't recall a single poster saying "Tyson should play because you don't drop a player after one game".  By creative outlook do you mean making stuff up?

Strange quote, but as i say perhaps i missed it.

If Petty can pull a Fritsch/Spargo and immediately look at home from day 1 and lock down the Lever role, we are back in business and the balance is restored.

Frees up Joel Smith to use his speed off half back and Hibberd to go back to accumulating the footy and giving us drive.

I hate to put that mush pressure on a first gamer, but he can be a HERO.

I like the subtlety there Tracc.  No pressure at all!

A must win game, with percentage also very important.

I wouldn't be surprised if, and that's just an if right now, we do make finals, it will be by percentage only.

We have 3 almost certain losses coming up before the end of the season, and two more 50-50 games. If we don't win the 'easier' ones (and there really are no easy games in AFL), and win them well, we will miss out again, and again be staring at a wasted season.

Spargo must play. He has shown composure and we need his decision making and small forward role.

Almost impossible to read what the selectors will do these days.

The most interesting thing so far is that Joel Smith has kept his spot, even with Petty coming into play his intercepter role. To me that shows that Goody is aware of the pace issues we have down back and kept him in the back seven ahead of Bernie and Joel will most likely play on Josh Battle , leaving Membrey and McCartin to O-Mac and Petty.

I'm still awaiting to see our restructure up forward, but like many, would be surprised if Weid hasn't done enough.

Can't see Pedo playing this week - the second tall defender role went to Petty already - and in my view, Pedo's too slow for that role anyway, even though his kicking skills are up to the required level. And as a forward, I expect Weid to play his back-up ruck role - so even if T-Mac is a late withdrawal, Pedo's chances this week appear limited to me.

I'd be shocked if Stretch doesn't get a call up, but I've been shocked before. Could Vince play up forward if T-Mac is injured? Will both Harmes and Tyson be kept? Who knows? Find out at about 6.15pm tonight!

Petty and Weed    IN

Smith and T Mac   OUT

Trac/Hannan to play more fwd

In: Petty, Weid.

Out: Vince, T Smith

Frees Hannan, Harmes to crumb.

Frees Hibberd, J Smith up on flanks.

Harmes is probably on notice for those 2 momentum killing turnovers in the second half last week.

20 points up with all the momentum and he finds a Port player at our half fwd. That is what's keeping him from being a serious player.

Agree. And our biggest problem is we have a few such players.

Didnt think Tyson would stay in. We need a small forward and we chose none. anb and Harmes did zero last week.

Surprised Bernie is back to Casey, despite the commentary that both him and Jordie could not be in the same team.

I remember Bernie saying in the preseason he expecting to spend time at Casey this season and was prepared to do so.

He did well to play the first  13 games.

Geeze we’re going in tall by today’s standards. Seven players over 190cm compared to the Saints’ four. That’s not including the likes of Fritsch and Hannan who are just below that.

Port had 9 x 189+ and 5 x 198+

Lack of height killed us last week

Tellingly, the bloke that was most rapped for Petty was PEDO! Just watch the vid on the official site!

This is the hallmark of not only a great spirit but hopefully a great mentoring program!!

Don't forget lack of thought and lack of composure

Lots of inexperience in that team .I still expect a win but slightly worried

I think we have experience in the right area of the ground, though, and that's through the midfield.  We have some younger guys for sure, but Weideman is a forward and Petty will play a second/third tall type role without having a huge amount of responsibility.  I'd back him to run with McCartin without too many problems.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
