Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Fair assessment

I still believe the club still needs to discover the Killer instinct. Whorethorn have had it for years. Norm Smith passed it on to John Kennedy Snr

Round 23 2017 still doesn’t hurt and enrage the club nearly enough.

Goodwin’s “processes” aern’t enough. Opposition coaches have pulled his strategies apart.

Attitude is within

Not the worst comment he has made. It is true that we don't yet have the right "balance" but, like all emerging teams in the recent past, it takes both personnel and time playing together for the right combination to arise.

I believe that we have the personnel - the challenge is for the FD to find and develop the right combination.

2020 is looking better all the time.

Its not about competing...its about Winning.

The real question is....can we beat the best ?

So far.....no

There is still one big problem at the MFC. We are mentally soft. If or when we overcome that we can see wins over so-called tough opponents. Just like Port last friday. Mentally soft and lost.

As for Watson saying we don't have the cream is typical of him. We do have some cream it is just how to use it when it counts.

And what are your thoughts? You've been very very quiet this week.....I'm concerned for your mental health...cough cough MFCSS!

I won't lie I don't think we will make the finals this year and that's not even the MFCSS talking.

Yep I have that feeling too, I actually think we were better last year.

GWS - Cameron loss

Coll - Treloar injury

WCE - Kennedy & Darling injuries

A bit of luck may go our way from here.

Listening to 'Gaddy' and 'Wisp' is like listening to the sporting equivalent of Bill and Marty from the Simpsons. Two inane presenters in love with the sound of their own voices but instead of goofy sound effects and low grade humor, it's usually low grade humor, excessive jock behavior (at times I expect them to ask each other if they pulled at the pub last night) and one wanting to rile the other one by passing negative judgements on their team.

I appreciate that we want to post news items on Demonland concerning MFC but if it were up to me (which it's not) these self promoting boofheads would be on the Demonland blacklist.

better last year when we lost to the Pies and North twice who were in terrible form. Just beat Carlton and lost to a terrible Freo at home?

we are far better than last year and it will show at the end of the year. we are finally beating the average teams and a couple of wins against the good teams are just around the corner

Andy....you and I both :(

for us to play finals...let alone in any meaningful manner we need a lot of things to go right...and in a very particular pattern.

Again we fibd ourselves ( imho ) reliant upon outcomes of other teams to pave our way. We've abdicated our position of self determination by losing games we ought not.....or losing some by too much.

into the laps of gods go us...again. Gods have never favoured Demons

I don't think we're any better or worse than last year.

Last year we were unable to beat the lowly teams. This year we haven't had that problem and in fact this year we were finally able to put teams away.

Last year we knocked off a few of the better teams. This year and in particular going into the final rounds I don't think we are capable of doing that. I'll try to elaborate further on the podcast but I think we can match it with better teams I just think they have worked us out in flooding our avenues to goal and we cannot score and don't have a plan B.

At the start of the year I beleieved that we could beat anyone but in turn lose to anyone. I've adjusted that now. I think we know how to beat those weaker teams and do it well. We can beat the better teams but not if they beat us first.

I enjoyed beating WCE in Perth, top of the table Adel in SA and taking it up to Tigers had it not been for injury plus beating the Pies QB?

Anyway, we await.

There are no undefeated teams in the league this year.  In fact the top three teams have each lost 3 matches, which suggests that the competition's 'best' are far from impervious.  We ourselves are 2 wins off top of the ladder.

Any team can beat any team with a bit of form and luck.  We are currently down on both at the moment, but that is never permanent.

We, along with every team in the league, can beat any team on our day.

And yet we haven't beaten any ONE team currently above us. The law of average might suggest we might have accounted for one or any of the games those teams have lost...but no.

There's a very simple reason we haven't

We have competed with the best. There is strong evidence. We performed really well in three quarters against Geelong, Richmond and Port putting ourselves in positions to win those games.

I thought we were really unlucky against Port with a few things not going our way in the last quarter (injuries/bad calls in crucial moments). I definitely think this team has competed with the best and has put them selves in line to beat the better teams. The small sample this season is enough proof I think.

This team is in no way polished or settled. There's still so much room to improve which is exciting as a supporter. The areas in which we need to improve are clear and in front of us.

True, but that's not to say that we can't.

We need a cover for Lever, we need a class mid who hits targets in the f50 with regularity, we need a goal crumbing forward, and we need Viney or Jones to take the club on their shoulders when the tide turns against us, Like Selwood does, Like Ziebell did on the weekend, Like Pendles has for years.

We can compete, we should hav3 beaten both Geelong and Port. We need ice in the veins and about 30 more games into half a dozen players.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
