Tyson probably BOG.

I wanna see the numbers. Felt like a 40+er for Tyson... Which may have been a reflection of how well he used it...

Why have they got Nibbler and Hannan listed in the starting eighteen? ?

I could have sworn I saw Bugg place his hands on the umpire’s back in the closing minutes. I wonder whether that has any repercussions? ?

Balic was signed to a one year contract.

For those who’ve seen him at VFL level this year, do we extend?

Without question.

Has Pedersen played enough games to be eligible for VFL finals (6 games I believe)?

Doesn't matter - he'll be too busy preparing for an AFL Grand Final.

As for the game, I tuned into the 2nd half and was really impressed by the slick ball movement of JKH and Tyson. JKH in particular was really classy in the 3rd quarter - lots of really quick releases handpasses to free players from contested sitatuions. He reminded me a lot of Oliver actually and if he keeps up this form he'd definitely be worth keeping on the list. Was also really impressed with some of the risky kicks he and Tyson managed to pull off, changing our angles going forward. Some of those won't work in the AFL, but it fits with Goody's game plan.

Such is the strength of our AFL midfield at the moment, it's hard to see him (and even Tyson) getting  into the centre square or wing anytime soon in the seniors, but if anyone gets injured they are more than capable replacements, especially on today's form.

I also liked the look of Balic up forward - he's another of those medium-sized players that is hard to match up on because at times he played like a true full forward. His ground kicking needs a bit of work, but I think he's another player who could easily step into the seniors.

Petty looked great in defence and Keilty seemed to do some nice things as well. With Frost moving forward for the 2nd half, it looks like the match committee have these two (and Wagner) as the others in line for Lever's spot if Smith doesn't make the cut.

I also thought Hunt didn't do his chances any harm. Didn't get a huge amount of touches but he was hard at every contest and showed some good ability to break away from packs 2 or 3 times. I wouldn't think he's too far away.

Votes for Casey player of theYear

6 -  Tyson - 35 damaging touches, he used the ball well..  Cleanest hes used it in a long while.  Played like he wants back in the AFL side.

5 -  JKH  -   fantastic game, was in everything..  won a lot of possession and linked up well. I still like him on the MFC list as solid depth.

4 -  Petty  -   hes 197 cms and just 18 years of old but he plays like a veteran.  A natural footballer who will debut soon at senior level.

3 - Bugg -  a typical Bugg game, workmanlike , plenty of touches and snagged a couple of goals.

2 - Baker - another draftee already delivering and exceeding expectations. He looked a lot bigger than I expected.  A powerful unit with elite acceleration.

1 -   Keilty -  teamed up well with Petty to form a solid KPD duo, the Pies talls couldn't get into the game.

Honorable mentions -

Goy Lok  -   always lively and unfortunately was robbed of a nice goal  the maggots claim was touched.

Harley Balic -   worked his way into the game and looked threatening.

This is the only page of the thread I've read, but I'm sure there are some "insightful" observations by some...

My main takeaways.

While Weideman was quiet, I'm more interested in his movement.  It was good to see him take 3 or 4 contested marks, but he has a spring and bounce in his step that was missing last year due to his ankle injury.  He's still only 20 and WILL make it.  He'll be a very good AFL footballer.

Petty.  The guy is 18 years of age.  He is going to be a 200 game AFL footballer.  He made a few skill execution errors and the odd poor decision, but his reading of the play, marking, and agility is first class.

In a very congested game, Tyson is clearly too classy for this level.

Hunt has a real crack and some good AFL assets, but it's not quite working for him.  I think he needs to learn how to play to his limitations.  I still like what he potentially offers.

The rest of the Dees' listed AFL players are probably depth, but it's a bit early to know for a couple.  We develop players well, so some might make rapid progress.

Seriously, whoever gives out the best player list, there’s a glaring omission there.

Initials are DT - easily BOG in my book.

I didnt see the last quarter so again i miss seeing Sam Weiderman do anything much. I go walk the dogs and found he is named in the best. Amazing. I see him in contests, I see him winning absolutely none. I see Tom Bugg and I see an AFL player who has had the yips in the ones. I am now biased. Im Opposite George to many experts.

If we venture over to the Dom Tyson thread I’m sure we’ll find a couple of candidates.

Went down and had a look and aside from the filth supporters I enjoyed the game even though it was congested.

Tyson was probably BOG but I was impressed with keiltys game. Overall the team played well together. I noticed the filth tried to move the ball quickly with a lot of handballs. Their seniors do the same. Our blokes tackled really well and kept the pressure on them. Our seniors will have to do the same as moving the ball quickly ( and pacey ) is about the only area of the game they may get us on.

Great win considering we didn't have Tim.Smith and Garlett.

TYSON -Best on ground a class above this level really pushing for a senior re call.

FROST - Prefer him as a forward and with Hutchins back in the side don't be surprised to see him spend more time there.

KENNEDY HARRIS - Definitely one of his better games hopefully he can show more consistency.

WEIDEMAN - Took a few good marks late but otherwise quiet.

BALIC - In and out of the game but a great last quarter, shows good signs.

HUNT - Really disappointing not showing his usual dash and wasn't in the game a hell of a lot.

BUGG - Really good game probably second best on ground, I don't understand why he can kick straight at VFL level but not AFL level frustrating footballer.

BAKER - Reallly exciting prospect but like Hunt needs to work on his disposal.

KING - Developing ruck needs more time.

PETTY - Has really good football smarts apart from a couple of dodgy kicks into the corridor he was a general down back.

JOHNSTONE - Has definitely found his niche down back and may have saved his career only time will tell.

WAGNER - Typical Wagner game solid without being spectacular.

KEILTY - Mr Dependable didn't put a foot wrong.

FILIPOVIC - Loved his bump. Showed a bit of agro I like that in a ruckman.

Something about him today.. touch of class? We forget he was also a gun midfielder in his under 18s days.

Dazzle, he's a classy mover who undoubtedly will play a role in the 1's at some point this year....imo.

And Oskar Baker has abundant physical talent but I'm not completely convinced about his footy IQ. Which is code for 'he manages to have complete brain fades on the field'

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
