whatwhat say what 23,854 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 The logical fit for Lever is one of Frost, Kielty, or J Smith, unless they go with a runner like Hunt Smith and Melksham are in doubt so you’d think Pedo or Weid for Smith and possibly Garlett or Balic for Milkshake... I’m going to go with Hunt, Weideman and Garlett if all three miss, and hopefully just Hunt for Lever Man it’s dee-pressing to lose Lever 1 Quote

Frost is THE obvious choice to replace like with like. Has the height / leap / spoiling ability. Has the pace and has the mobility. He also has aprox the same games experience (albeit zip finals of course). He is the 2nd best intercept player in our team just behind Lever, averaging 7 per game vs Lever's 7.9 He turns the ball over about the same number of times per game as Lever (averaging about 3.5 each per game) He doesn''t get as many possessions so maybe lacking a little in work rate at this point. Maybe this is just a matter of getting enough consecutive games into him? Sometimes he runs and yes has a brain fade or two and forgets to dispose to a free target or two (earlier on in the run) or just forgets to dispose of it and keeps running! Eliminate this from his game and get him to play within his limits and we might have a reasonable replacement (given a fair run at it ie., enough consecutive games). monoccular 17,760 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 If Smith does miss, surely Weidemann vs Pedersen will largely be determined by tomorrow’s VFL game. And the taller defenders will all be on their toes I imagine. Quote

But would be very surprised if he misses after an eight day break on that. Quote

I reckon Frost is very underrated amongst Melbourne fans. A bloke with those stats and his physical attributes demands a spot in our side, especially when our preferred like-for-like option may be out for an extended length of time. 6 Quote

Just a thought. Seriously though, I think it's going to be a showdown between Frost and Keilty. Whoever shows the most tomorrow may well be the one to get the prize. Given current form and game-style, I lean towards Keilty getting his debut. He mau not have the pace of Frost, but he's more reliable by foot which is going to be a big factor. There is an off-chance that Melksham won't get up. Normally I would say Garlett would be the one to come in for him, but I don't think he's been doing that well at Casey has he? Do we have someone down there who can play the role better? Quote
Drunkn167 5,093 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Gutted for Jake, was just finding some great form too. Hopefully it isn't a full ACL tear. As for his replacement, Frost is probably the most likely given his similar role and AFL experience. But we'll have to see how the 3 talls, Frost, Keilty and Petty, play tomorrow to see who is really putting their hand up. Optimistically, if Keilty has a big game tomorrow, it would be a dream come true to see him debut in a big game like the Queen's birthday, to see if he has what it takes to play at Senior level. Over the last 4 weeks I would say Keilty is probably the most in-form in the VFL of the defenders, but it's a pretty close run. I am about 80% sure Frost will get the gig, but damn It'd be great to see Dec get a run at it. 7 Quote

Did you see the piece of play where he got the ball on half back, hand passed it off and then sprinted forward to make another option before hitting a target inside 50? You don't get that from Garlett, but you get it from Charlie. I hope he plays in the seniors for the rest of the season. I agree you wouldn’t get that from Garlett but you would from Bugg, 2 weeks back he kicked 5 and had 20 odd disposals. He’s been playing very well since going back to the vfl Keilty is in line to replace Lever, was named in the best last week playing back so it’s his to lose tomorrow. Pedo for Tim Smith if he’s injured, loved his game the first 2 weeks, hopefully today he was just down due to soreness. Quote
Forest Demon 4,681 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Bummer that it looks like a long term injury for Lever, but at least we have plenty of options. I suspect it will be Joel Smith. Quote
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 We actually have a lot of options to replace Lever. None are as good as Lever, but we have far more backline depth than inside midfield depth as an example. 1 Quote
ProperDee 1,698 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Maybe we need to wait and see how the weather is going to pan out for the QB game? if it’s wet then speed and agility become less of an advantage in comparison to strength. I think Pedo is a certainty in any event. As for debuting young blokes on QB.....the last time we did that we all know the result. 3 Quote
The Chief 697 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Think out of our options, Frost would match up best on Cox. Good jump & reach, and will run off him with ease. Quote
MadAsHell 4,217 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Will reserve full judgement until after today's VFL game, but early thought are; Frost in to play O Mc's lock down defensive role (on Cox) and free up O Mc to play Lever's role. If one of Pedersen or Weideman has a day out they may come in for Smith. May.... If Melksham isn't fit then Bugg's form probably warrants a call up before Balic. Quote
Nasher 33,686 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 In: Smith (Garlett) (Weideman or Pedersen) Out: Lever (Melksham) (Smith) Brackets indicate pending injury. Ins depend on Casey results of course. No unforced changes. 1 Quote

The coaches love him, and he was an emergency yesterday. Quote
GCDee 3,202 Posted June 2, 2018 Posted June 2, 2018 Outs lever and t smith both injured Ins j smith and weid If round 23 burns like the players said it did then we should really show up for this one and [censored] crush the pies out of the top 8 and decimate their percentage. Quote

It will depend a lot on the game tomorrow but I would like to see Petty in before Frost. Maybe a year early but hey the kid is a much better prospect. I will understand though if the FD don't want to throw him straight into a QB clash and they go with the easier Frost option but he is seriously bad for my health when he's around the ball or has it. Nope, OMac stays at FullBk and would be trashed by Cox's height as bombs came in. The Filth use Cox for bombs and bombs for Cox because their footpassing is very wayward, compared to ours at present. We need to hit Cox with muscle - he is a gawk. That muscle is Frosty plus our best crumber. 1 Quote
