Post Match Discussion - Round 10

Upon seeing how happy I am following our magnificent win, my wife responded with “don’t go getting any ideas you silly old man”.

I didn’t realise my happiness was that obvious! ?

I know that Sydney a few years back, and Hawthorn two years ago were "our best wins" of the modern era. I think that possibly this one might take the cake.

The other thing to remember is, we are so very, very young. There is no reason that this cannot continue for a decade, when Gus and Trac are doing Lewis and Vince things.

I was at the Sporting Globe watching the match with my son. I've followed Demons for 50 years. This side is the best side I've seen in that time ... better than the Johnny Northey side of the late 80s/early 90s and Daniher sides of the 90s.

I'm in shock. Had the best afternoon!!

One of the most pleasing aspect was the young players really dominated today as well as some of the older.

We are what the AFL wanted GWS to be,  with the added bonus of a history and soul.

Still some bad casual footy type errors today and a few that still have opposition players walking through them in a tackle mixed in with exhilarating passages, room for improvement but going in a great direction.

Now finish the beer, watch Goody"s presser, and then revisit the 'is Goodwin the right man' and 'Hawthorn post match discussion" topics

Why would anyone do that?

Much to celebrate, but really impressed with how Spargo has slotted in and what he brings. Not yet getting a heap of it, but he's smart and a really clean ball-user, great for the structure.

Just want to say three things

1.Winning is awesome

2. I wasn't calling for Goodwin's Head 5 weeks ago.

3. Jake Lever is only going to get better.

Love his pressure, never stops chasing

Started going to the footy in 65, 66. Remember 64 but too young to go. This is simply the best side I have ever seen. 87 was a brilliant emotional ride and The Reverand’s   every second year teams were giid fun and ripping personalities - but this team goes way beyond that! Got to make it count now.

Just woke up in London . WTF?????!!!!

Why, where did you fall asleep?

Not only have we won 18 consecutive quarters but no team has had a run of goals against us since the Rich game:  5 games ago!  That was the big bogey last year and early this year - that bogey has been slain!!

Also, we played it out to the very end and never let up - grit and determination right there.

This was an outstanding win!  Dare I say it:  The day we announce ourselves to the footy world!

Hate to take from the win but remember the Crows were missing Lever today....

Im late to this party today....my nervous system is totally confused. Game day...and where's the pain and angst?? whats going on?

It's not just one player of course but the addition of Gus to the midfield has just made us so more powerful as a team.

I think he will soon be paid the compliment of a tag.

You can’t go back and criticise posters who were emotional after a loss. Go away now, you don’t add anything anymore.

This is not football. This is smashing guitars. What a beautiful noise.

Bull Smith was great today! Having watched him go from VFL to playing good footy at AFL level gives me so much happiness

I also think it highlights how good we are at developing mature age players via the VFL. Casey will become a destination club for mature-age players.

Our alignment has never been stronger, and the longer it continues, the greater the benefit both Melbourne and Casey will gain from it.

Yep - agree...then:

Someone has to tag Clarrie...no wait

Someone has to tag JV...wait

Someone has to tag Jonesy... wait,

Harmes? Hibbo? Salem?

Hope so. Frees clarry, viney, Jones. Can't tag everyone

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
