Go and get Gaff!

Yes oh master! Whatever you say sir. McQueen made assumptions that the punch was not aimed at Brayshaw's face but his gut. Is this not defending his actions in some way?  Off your high horse mate.

Do you understand English?

Even if you are right (and you're not by a long way) there is a huge difference between providing a defence of someone's actions and condoning them.

Wow.

Wow.

Is there a huge difference?  I think not. You seem to be having trouble dismounting from your high horse.

Look he is going to cop his just desserts. People are pretty fired up about this today and rightly so. But I think there is only a set of people who can really comment and that is his family. Reading this article I couldn't imagine what his family had thought sitting there and seeing this happen to there son. Obviously Angus was a bit rattled to.

Let's simplify this - broke a players jaw in an off the ball incident. Therefore manifestly worse than Bugg's. Bugg got 6 weeks. 8 to 10 would be right.

What if the punch killed the kid?

still 6 to 8?

If that happened (has it ever happened in any professional sport?) the AFL tribunal wouldn’t play any part. But most (if not all) one punch hits that cause death are as much to do with the person landing on concrete as it is the hit itself.

Brayshaw wasn’t knocked out, he got hit on a soft part of the face. Half an inch lower and it’s quite possible he’d be playing this week. Again not defending Gaff but there’s always luck involved when it comes to any injury.

The image has been posted enough, I’m not sure what the purpose is of posting it again but zoomed in?

In relation to your above point, for police to be involved they need a victim to work with. Which means the player would have to make a complaint and provide a statement. I think this would be far from Andrew’s mind at the moment but he’d obviously be justified if he wanted to take it further.

Thanks for putting it into reasonable context Ethan

I'm sure we'll see that horrific photo at least another 10 times before they day is over. Though it's far from his mind ATM, I bet Andrew Brayshaw would be over the online analysis and hyperbole as well.

I agree, I don't think Gaff went out and thought "I'm gonna smash his jaw and break his teeth coz he's being a pest to me". I think he thought "you're an annoying [censored] I'm gonna hit ya a little because I'm having a brain fade moment and oh [censored] I just smashed you really hard and I am screwed".

I feel for both of them, but bloody hell you look at poor Andrew and you just feel sick. To hear his mum was crying in the rooms just breaks your heart, when you think what Gus went through and that she has another kid in the army. I heard on radio this morning that she'd had to take on some counselling to help her deal with the Gus situation, and now this. FFS my heart really breaks for her!

This will no doubt have long lasting ramifications on Gaff, his confident, his demeanour, the way he is perceived by the wider footy community, and no doubt his future and asking price.

I would still welcome him to our club, but as stated previously, I would hope the club looks into the mental impact this will have on Gaff, on Gus (I'm sure he will be OK with it) and as a general look for our club. We were very hard on Bugg and he has barely played since (although he is a poor player which doesn't help), so how do we proceed should we get Gaff without looking hypocritical?

Well said.

If the tribunal is consistent, then the penalty has to be more than what Bugg received.  Mills didn't play out the game, but did play the following week.  Buggy got 6 weeks for that.

Brayshaw is done for the season.  Gaff should get something in the realm of 7-8 weeks for it, but I'd be surprised if the tribunal went that hard.  Not because I don't think he deserves it, but more so because I just can't see them having the guts to do it.

Simpson standing by his player.

Not sure it's smart but very different approach to how Bugg was handled by MFC.

Ours was the correct approach. The WCE have form, knowingly allowing drug takes to continue playing, allowing players to consort with criminals, attacking a Brownlow medialist verbally to the point he almost quit the game and then cheering on Gaff after the hit on Sunday. The  actions of WCE club and supporters carry no weight IMO.

Agree in part- giving 4 votes is a very poor message. However I thought we should've supported Bugg better.

If I were Gaff, I'd be inclined to stay at WC. For the MFC, I don't think we have the culture to support him after this. Maybe this was Simpson's thinking.

Will be interesting to see if they mount a defense.
Andrew did sharply pull away as Gaff swung, which meant arm contact instead became fist contact. Could go to intent.

How did the MFC treat Tom Bugg badly?

What should they have done better.

These comments fascinate me, do the crime....

Bugg is lucky to still have a contract

You are guessing, the only fact we have is that he hit him in the mouth with a clenched fist which resulted in a broken jaw and damaged teeth.

All the rest in conjecture.

Buggs was a stupid act which could have had far worse result.

Were the Dees fans cheering Bugg on after the hit?

No of course not because it was a stupid and a dangerous act, any other response is condoning the act.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
