Leigh Fisher (ex Saint) is one of the umpires for the St Kilda game. Should this be a worry?

Are you questioning an umpires integrity?

You should know they have none.

Shouldn't matter if we play to our abilities. If anything he may be harder on them, like when you coach your kids haha.

In the English Premier League they don't even allow a Ref to oversee a game if they live in or were born in the home city -   just take any perceived bias out of the conversation -   seems AFL should do the same with Leigh

Rodan shouldn't umpire Tiges, Power or Dee's perhaps? Although it's obviously a little harder to show bias whilst goal umpiring.

Leigh Fisher has been umpiring for quite some time now. Without checking, I expect he's already umpired some St Kilda games. If there had been any suggestion of any bias (for or against St Kilda) by Leigh Fisher in those games he wouldn't still be umpiring games involving St Kilda (or even any games). So, no, we shouldn't be concerned about Leigh Fisher umpiring this game. And we shouldn't even be impugning his reputation by asking the question.

If it were up to me, I'd close the thread.

The only thing to be concerned about is if the umps are AFL accredited. That's usually a bad sign.

That is a very good point to observe; who becomes their masters? Fair play and decision-making or the AFL hierarchy and it financial/political imperatives?

I cant remember ever being annoyed at him or even noticing him, so he must be a very good umpire.

Let's not start questioning the integrity, impartiality, decency, honesty and character of our umpires please........ except Wallace and that other one we all hate, the bald one.

Until after the game anyway, or else i'll have to put away my dolly umpire pins..........

Actually one of the better umpires. I’ll back his professionalism.

Doesn’t matter who the umps are we should always be worried.

Was going  say he cant be worse than nicholls........who shall now be dubbbed "the bald one."

Is one of the worst - often blind sided, looking around corners and guessing....

Maybe an excuse if we get done?

It's just another thing that a professionally run organisation wouldn't do.  It's not about questioning the umpire's integrity.  It's just a bad look to let this happen.  The better option would be to have him umpiring other games so that these questions are never asked.

I banged on about this in the aftermath of Round 23. The crucial Eagles vs Crows game was maggoted by No 6 and No 22 - both Western Australians I believe. We all know how it went that day. AFL arrogance and the maggots being untouchable ensure “integrity” or at the very least “perception” of integrity is never on the agenda in our game.

As you say, a professionally run organisation (like the EPL) wouldn't, but Gil's AFL do.  Says a lot.

Does anyone else remember back in the glory days, an umpire Gaudion (bro of a contemporary Norf player) or umpire Blew (bro of a contemporary EssenDrug player) umpiring in games vs Demons in which their brothers played?   I remember they got a lot of flack during the game, though my fading memory fails to remind me if they ever paid frees to their bro or failed to penalise them.

It just is not a good look regardless.

Which Fraser used to play for Collingwood them umpired - I remember clearly one Dees game he umpired and just could not bounce at the centre.  Didn't last long as an umpire as I recall.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?
