'The AFL has decided...'

What a bunch of [censored]. Who the [censored] gave them the idea that we want ANYTHING about this game changed?

Gillon is a [censored], who is too influenced by the Yanks and other sports.

His super panel is just another example.

I was just thinking the other day that what we really need to make our football experience complete is for the classic songs of Carlton, Richmond and Melbourne to sound more like the putrid GC17 and GWS equivalents.

Just [censored] off already Dil.

Please tell me this is a parody article highlighting how hopelessly out of touch the AFL hierarchy are and their addiction to fixing things that aren't broken and their constant desecration of footy traditions.

It can not be real.

I can't imagine that this is as it's been described.

Mostly likely the songs have been touched up to sound clearer.

It's a mutha [censored] grand old flag yo!

It's a high as a kite grand flag

It's the threads we love

Of the team we homies with

The team of the blood and the crips

Every gunshot rings through

For the red and the blue

As we rap this beat for you

Should ya'all smoke weed and never get caught

Keep yo eye on us or else.

This better not be real.

“It’s a Grand old Flag” is the property of the MFC and it’s Members/Supporters

It is steeped in traditions the AFL can only dream about

Gill has got to go

There is absolutely no way this could ever possibly turn out well for the AFL.  There is a flat zero chance the fans will listen to a re-recording of their songs and say: 'Sound great... change is good.'

The old style of signing is part of the cultural fabric of the game; I dread to think what they may sound like now.

I anm really angry about this, if it is real.

The Fable Singers totally rock

The AFL doesn’t.

No doubt Dr. who will think its marvellous for some strange reason....

I presume it's a new arrangement and recording of the old song. What interests me, though, is who owns the IP of the song? Does this mean the AFL rather than the clubs themselves owns the rights to each club's theme song?

That was my immediate thought also.

Have the AFL shared their 'updated' versions with the 16 clubs?

It's sounds ludicrous.

Bloody atrocious! A national anthem is our song - as it is! I want my grandkids to take their children to the  'G, to sit in the Sthn Stand and to listen to the victory song of the Dees being belted out as a representation of the historical recurrence of such an outcome. A new song, yeah, yeah, just won't do that, baby, baby. We should not allow Gill to dictate to us in this matter; should he go ahead, we should then be ready to substitute the historical song for the existing song on every occasion. It is our choice as members, supporters and sectional interests of the general public. The diction is too good to miss, as well. Men of Harlech stand together .... imagine.

I will contain my outrage until I hear it. According to someone who heard the ‘Toiges’ re-done song, it’s still the Fable Singers and just appears to be refreshed, possibly to make it sound better over the loud speakers.

You guys need to relax lol

Just heard the Old v New version of the Richmond song on Triple M, there was literally no difference, maybe slightly higher clarity for the digital age

Ya'll need to take a chill pill

I'm guessing it will be along these lines.

They may even encourage fans to boot scoot at games.

Who remembers the B side : "The Footy Song"  ?

It's pretty sad, but I remember it word for word.

To be fair most fans would have no objections to the AFL changing either the Dockers or Port’s song unilaterally

They do need to be re done....

The arrangements of the theme songs are so dated.

... but I wouldn't trust the AFL to be involved, they have no idea of what constitutes music good or bad.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
