All that work from the saints and we still lead.

8 of the last 9 goals.

We are still unable to stop the run on. Something to work on maybe.

We have been incapable of doing that for a decade in most seasons now.  In modern day terms that's either the inability of a plan B by the coaches to switch to a shut down 'man on man' role for 10 minutes or so (or however long it takes to wrest the game back) or the players inability/willingness to do so.

Playing the zone tends to look/work great when you have most of the pill.  When the opposition starts getting a lot of it and also start hitting more targets, the zone is a gift to the opponent and needs to be binned quickly until the arm wrestle is back on an equal / neutral footing.

Part of the change up is also getting goal side or / fat side of your opponent when the they have a run on to defend.  I argued last year we were at least a quarter off the better / mediocre teams in the league in this area and questioned if Misson was the right man for the mission.  Early days.  I hope he (the club) prove me wrong as the season proper gets underway but I've yet to be convinced after many seasons with this bloke at the ELITE performance/recovery helm.

Meh.

Poor quarter for sure, but we were clearly experimenting, not to mention that the Saints have played the bulk of their better players for 90% of the match while we've rotated much more.

The run of goals is clearly something to work on, no doubt about it, but it's JLT.  I'd rather us iron out the kinks here than come across them halfway through the Cats game.

So I couldn’t watch the first quarter but typical when I’m able to watch it we turn to poo.

Have not got a video feed

How other than the 2 goals is Brayshaw doing

BTW the 2 goals are great

I suspect that Gawn was not in the ruck for the third quarter from the stats. (No problem but where was the game plan to counter that loss of ruck dominance.)

I love it, we try a different tact in a praccy match and this site goes into melt down...Goes back to normal game plan that we have drilled and back to kicking these nobidies up and down Casey Fields.

brayshaw's intent and application are top-notch but his skills are still average

gawn was in the ruck but they were dominant at stoppages and our field kicking was appalling

I know it’s only a pre-season match but I feel like getting a win is important to our confidence. After have such a dominant first quarter, losing will leave us with a bad taste going into the real stuff.

So after this game I'm going to pick my 22 for round 1 (which assumes Viney gets up).

B:     Jetta         OMac      Hibberd

HB:   Hunt         Lever      Lewis

C:      Tyson       Oliver      Salem

HF:    Petracca  Hogan    Melksham

F:      Garlett       TMac      Hannan

R:     Gawn        Jones    Viney

Int: Vince   Brayshaw    ANB    Fritsch

emg: Bugg    Pedersen    Frost    Harmes

The bold players aren't playing tonight.

Thanks DA

the second line worries me given the natural ruck dominance we should have over the Saints

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
