Pretty disappointing crowd, particularly since the weather ended up being fine.

Can you blame them BF?  A very ordinary team (both on the field and the way they play the game) in the shin boners vs one of the AFL/VFL''s least successful teams in the past 50 years in a pre-season encounter that counts for nothing.  Then the fact that the AFL has backed two teams in non-football supporting states over Tassie and is throwing hundreds of millions at them.  No brainer really.

Gaz is a horrible commentator IMO. Absolutely no insight whatsoever. 

Huddo has held some disdain towards us for the last few years. I find Johnson to be quite complimentary.

One super impressive thing about Fritsch's game was that he had the EASIEST of chances to put his head down and kick a 4th goal, and more-or-less make it impossible to leave him out of Round 1. But he still chose to dish it off. Goodwin would have loved that.

Surely posters realise we'll pick our best team available in JLT2 ?  It's not about "hoping to see" anyone, it's about our best team preparing for round one.

One of many highlights for me from today's game was the ease in which Bailey Fritsch slotted into the side. 

I watched a lot of Casey last year and was stoked when we picked him up in the draft. 

 After a couple of injury ridden years Bailey was easily one of the best at Casey pulling down plenty of screamers and scoring plenty of goals. 

Today he showed he can do it at AFL level as well with a handy knack of being where the ball goes. 

It is early days yet, but would love to see this kid develop into a best 22 player. 

Like Jayden Hunt and Mitch Hannan (and Nev Jetta) we may have stumbled on a diamond in the rough. 

CP5 is certainly a fan, and we can all see why. 

Any win is a good win. Today was no exception with a pretty even contribution across the ground led by Max in the ruck and some slick combination skills to work the ball forward into scoring opportunities. 

A good hit out to clear the cob webbs.

With these sorts of games at this time of year I tend to focus on the new recruits be they rookies or imports, and the fringe players. You know what you're going to get with the senior experienced guys, even at their different levels of preseason readiness.

Of the new players, watching plenty of Casey games last year meant I was excited at the prospect of seeing Fritsch at this level (disregarding the abomination last week where he slotted a couple of cheap ones), and he didn't disappoint. And he still hasn't shown what I think are his greatest assets, his ability to win the marking contest in traffic and set shot goalkicking. After this and if he plays a half decent game next week, he's a lock for Round 1. Lever did enough, the ball didnt come down his way too much, but he showed he'll fit comfortably into our structure down there.

Of the fringe players, I thought Harmes was excellent, Hannan was OK, Brayshaw struggled to impose himself, Stretch worked diligently all day for not much reward, he needs to ensure his possessions are more constructive rather than playing every one safe, Wagner was decent, and Bugg was pretty handy.

I don't count ANB as a fringe player, cant understand why people still underrate him, he just missed out on a Top 10 B&F finish last year, and Melksham is also no longer a fringe selection, nor is Salem, if he's fit he's in our best 22 he has simply struggled for continuity in his footy to be able to remind people of his ability.

If our mid tier can continue their improvement, we'll have some good depth dilemmas when Viney, Tyson & Jetta return and we get a full game from Lewis...roll on the Saints!

Goody said in his presser that his is playing a few different positions he was in the middle but once Lewis came off he was then moved to the back line to cover Lewis, not sure Brayshaw should be a stop gap this time of his career needs to find a position and get a good run at it

Disagree. Give them two years and their midfield will be one of the best.

It's the key positions and backline that is their problem.

I could make the argument that their young gun mids are a fraction short too (McGrath, Parish and Merrett) and they're one gun mid short. But if that muppet Stringer turns a corner and Devon Smith steps up, their midfield will trouble a lot of teams.

And I've said for a few years that Daniher will be the best forward in the league in the not too distant future. 2018 may well be his year.

As expected we have a sizeable roster of mobile medium forwards on the improve and keenly fighting for spots. Bodes well. Even better is that Max looks set for a big season ahead and we've barely yet fired up our engine room. Jones and Clarry both looked rusty and Dom and Viney were out. If we start crushing the contested and centre clearances with quick forward entries and plenty of forward pressure we're going to put on some big scores and be difficult to stop. Basically like the start of last year but with a bit of extra maturity and finishing touch.

I was quite happy with that game.  It was against a team of babies that are desperately positioning themselves for a tilt at a priority pick this year, but we showed a lot of depth with spare players all over the field and a multitude of scoring options.  We did exactly as we should have and thrashed them.

For starters, JLT2 is 22 players I believe, so if you want to bring in 5, you'll need to drop 7.

Given that Frost was omitted for a 24-man team, hard to see him being included when there are only 22.

Hopefully we'll bring in the other 4 you mentioned, then probably rest Lewis, but that still leaves another 5 to go out. I'd imagine Maynard and Wagner would be the first to be cut (through no real fault of their own), but then need another 3. Going to be some unlucky players if indeed those 4 are available.

Think Brayshaw will hold his spot.

Was really impressed with the just-OK players today: Harmes, Bugg, ANB, and especially Melksham.

Just goes what to show what happens when you have decent coaches and decent development.

Brayshaw has a position: on the ball. But given what he's been through and his comparative youth, he's being given the chance to find his feet and build some confidence elsewhere. It seems fairly clear that they're trying to keep him out of heavy traffic, at least for the moment.

The calls for Fritsch to play round 1 are a bit premature. It was one way traffic today due to how lacklustre North were, would like to see how he goes in a more tightly fought contest without any easy goals from poor marking by the opposition. As well as seeing how the other players contesting his position also play.
