I'd trade them both for a victory in Round 3 but I do understand your sentiment.

Agree big time Mr Demonland

apparently going to be a howling wind according to the Demonland Tassie locals so the game may come down to the usual unknowns.

I recall a few stuff ups by us last year with the wind !!

These two matches are dress rehearsals for round one and they've stated they'll be picking the best available teams.

Other than Lever, the two non MFC debutantes I'm hoping to see are Fritsch and Balic.  At this stage the others are either developing, depth, or both.

Yep, thank goodness the days of getting a look at the new boys (a highlight for us long sufferings) has been replaced by getting the team primed for the season ahead...

Yeah but from the Melb website and was what I hear from a realiable source

"The final list will be reduced to a 24-man team 90 minutes prior to the match."

Dec hasn't stated packing for Hobart yet so I don't think he'll be playing

How’s he feeling Drnkn? He looks a different beast this preseason. How’s he feeling about getting a run in the 1s and the preseason for the club compared to last?

He says he's feeling stronger then last year but still trying to find his feet.

Dec has always been a late bloomer so I hope the MFC put some faith into him because I reckon in 2-3 years time he will be a fantastic footballer

Looking at this squad and the players that are missing and expected to come up for R1, there are going to be some very good players missing out when the first team is announced.

Viney, Jetta, Garlett and Tyson I would assume will walk into the starting 18 when fit. That makes it quite a squeeze to get into the R1 matchday 22.

Why should he be selected?

great question...the facetious part of me thinks because of the reports that he 'talks and holds others to account'...ergo...that's enuff.

Personally, i am very confident he can make the grade, just not straight off the draft as such

Having watched the replays of AFLX Wagner made 1 bad mistake deep in the backline that coughed up a goal but otherwise was very good with the ball, with his spoils/intercepts and with what I saw of his positioning (which isn't easy to see on tv). He's looked very good on the training track this summer and got some harsh criticism for games he played out of position on the wing last year. He's no world beater but I think he pushes for round 1. Not surprised to see him picked for this.

Yeah from a first hand report he has been killing it this preseason

Bailey is an absolute gun. Hopefully he tears it up this year

His skill set is the perfect foil for Hogan, T Mac and Garlett up forward.

I picked him in my round 1 best 22 after the draft.  Not sure he will sneak in at this stage, though that will depend on JLT form.  He might be too good to leave out.  Whatever the case,  it wont be long before he breaks into the team.

B: J.Wagner 42, O.McDonald 28, J.Lewis 6
HB: J.Lever 8, M.Hibberd 14, B.Vince 23
C: J.Hunt 29, J.Harmes 4, B.Stretch 15
HF: C.Oliver 13, T.McDonald 25, N.Jones 2
F: C.Petracca 5, J.Hogan 1, M.Hannan 19
Foll: M.Gawn 11, J.Melksham 18, A.Neal-Bullen 30
I/C: D.Keilty 45, C.Salem 3, H.Balic 27, A.Brayshaw 10, T.Bugg 32, H.Petty 35, B.Fritsch 31, S.Frost 17, J.Kennedy Harris 24, C.Maynard 20, T.Smith 38, C.Pedersen 21

Notable absentees: Neville Jetta, Jack Viney, Dom Tyson

remove 6 for Saturday (assuming MFC website correct): Smith, Keilty, Petty, JKH, Bugg, Balic

remove 2 more for JLT 2 assuming squad of 22 - Frost, Maynard

Round 1 - Jeff, Jetta, Viney and Tyson return

out - Wagner, Fritsch, Stretch, Pederson??

Gees it is getting hard to pick a 22!!  probably will have a couple injured/unavailable for round 1 you would assume though

I would say he is up against Hannan for a spot in the round 1 side, so he is definitely a chance if he plays well in the next couple of weeks.

Has always struck me as somebody who doesn't know how good he is, you need to tell him he is on the list for a reason

Defensive drills on Wednesday he was one of the best performers, even when Bull Smith tried to kill Weed, Hibbo and Dec in one movement

Okay this is now reminds me of another pre-season I remember, when I believed we would be invincible.

No. That's all of them. They all were the best parts of the season..

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
