Training with a small intra club as part of the mix.

Who’s the Seb Ross lookalike for Casey?

Posted

It was hard to work out many of the players.

It wasn't so much an intraclub game as match simulations in which one team had white tops and no numbers. You could recognise some of the players but the Casey boys were only recognisable by their lower skillsets.

My masseuse was way too late and stuffed up any chance of going down and seeing the boys train. How was it? Did they good good? Anyone get any photos?

bummer re tyson; he can't seem to get a clean run at a preseason

so that's viney and tyson likely to miss for round 1? two of our six prime mid movers

it's not a hammy, just a calf. still got time to recover especially if it is minor

harmes said after the aflx he got a bit of a calf twinge too at the end of the final game

I’m surprised at the lack of reports since so many supporters complain that they can’t attend the usual training sessions on account of them being on a workday.

Ditto. I asked but no ones answered. My had ever intent on going, but my masseuse was late and ruined any chance of going. I asked if anyone went or took photos, but no response.

The club hasn’t done any report on how it went. No photos or reports on the site. I was waiting all day for info on it on Facebook, but all I got was the female players favourite quotes. Who gives a flying f.....

The club website is useless.. one of the worst in the comp.

As mentioned in my post above, the focus was mainly on match simulation involving fast movement and switch play but there were a variety of drills earlier and these included most of the available list bearing in mind that the squad of players from the victorious AFLX team were no doubt enjoying a morning off.

The two important players who missed most of the first half of last year through injury and  non-football related circumstances - Jesse Hogan and Max Gawn - both looked in good shape and ready to have a big impact in 2018.

Others who impressed me were Michael Hibbberd and Christian Salem both in terms of looking fit and raring to go but also in their attack on the footy. Its interesting that although Hibberd and our AFLX star Jake Melksham (obviously, he wasn’t there yesterday) had good seasons in 2017, they both look ready to take giant steps up this year. Good signs.

I mentioned the small rehab group of Jack Viney (looking huge and aggressive) and Sam Weideman who were joined by Joel Smith and Jeff Garlett. Dom Tyson’s injury was apparently to his calf. No sign of AVB.

Nathan Jones was mopping things up coming out through defence and Mitch Hannan moved well.

Of the newbies Harley Balic looked comfortable and at home with the group. Charlie Spargo looks a real goer and Oskar Baker is going to be a bit of a cult hero.

I reckon Jake Lever might go ok this year.

Clayton Oliver is looking in good shape and had enough sunblock on his face, arms and legs to convince me to take out a portfolio of shares in that industry.

A lost cause, do you think WJ?

I like others liked what we saw of him in 2016, but time is slipping away!

I believe AVB will miss at least the first month of the season if not more. He does provide a point of difference for the attack but given the demands of the game and the need for a proper pre season he’s going to start from a long way back.

I was over the far side at Casey yesterday watching the rehab group. (Viney, Tyson and Weideman) I was literally 2 m away. Dom was doing some fartlek running when he pulled up on the far side of the ground. He walked back to Crossy and said 'I felt something in my good calf' and pointed high up in the right calf. So Crossy asked him if he pinged it and Dom said no, but he definitely had awareness. They did some massage and a few more run throughs on it and then decided to send him inside. I don't think it is too bad at all.

I watched JV very closely yesterday. He kicked over distance off both feet. He did straight line and lateral running, some bumping and ground ball drills and a lot of interval running around the boundary. Obviously conditioning may be an issue but unless he has a setback I'd say there's no way he's missing round 1.

From training:
No Lewis
Harley Balic looked good around stoppages and used the ball cleverly.
Nathan Jones a standout - will continue to play more an outside role this year.
Jack Viney moving well, both laterally and straight line. Did a truckload of running, kicking over distance with both feet. Very confident he’ll play round 1.
Quick ball movement the obvious game plan. Didn’t always come off but will be hard to counter when it does.
Dean Kent not dead and buried yet. Won a heap of ball and moved well.
Dom Tyson wasn’t sure if he did his good calf or not, but definitely had awareness in it.
Clarry Oliver definitely instructed to kick the ball more and wasn’t always looking to give off by hand. He always make good decisions.
Justin Plapp was the man in charge today. Goody patrolled the sidelines with Brendan McCartney offering advice and encouragement to players.
Oskar Baker is a dasher.
Christian Salem looked a class above with ball in hand. He’s slimmed right down and looks fit.
Many of the Casey boys acquitted themselves well and took it right up to the Demon players. It was funny watching Jones run past players and not know their names.

Thanks for the reports everyone- much appreciated!

Great to see Viney’s rehab has taken a big step and finger crossed Tyson’s calf was just a twinge.

Just wondering which group Salem was training with?  Are they looking to him to play midfield this year?

Also where are Balic and Kent training?

Thanks again!

I was walking around the ground and also watched JV closely and agree. I would add that, when watching him from close quarters, you can see and feel the intensity in everything he attempts. He was pretty aggro yesterday and is going to be a real weapon when he eventually gets himself fit.

Human 'wrecking ball'.  A mouth watering prospect, and Ican't wait..  Might need to move him up a grade so he doesn't hurt the opposition, I reckon.  ?

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
