Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Delisted Free Agents

The NAB AFL restricted free agency offer and unrestricted free agency period ends at close of business tomorrow and there are still 3½ days of trading left before this part of the current exchange and draft period ends but there's more to come.

On 1 November, it's time for the delisted free agents ~

Worth a look: We rank the top 10 delisted players

I think Zac Clarke, Sam Collins and Aaron Mullett should be on AFL lists and would all offer us something but we have Mitch King, Declan Keilty and *insert back flanker* in their spots.

If we convert a draft pick in to a future 2nd round pick or free up a list spot in some other way then they are 3 I'd take a look at.

Weak draft = weak delisting year. Most teams aren't cutting too deep this year.

Pass on all.  Go to the draft with 3 selections

With the retirement of Garland we currently have four vacancies on the list.

So we can use our three second-round picks, but should we draft someone with pick 47 or pick up a delisted free agent such as Clarke, Crameri, or Lennon?

Rather than comparing whoever we get with potentially pick 47, perhaps, as ignition alludes, we should be comparing the potential of what Clarke, Crameri or Lennon might add/strengthen our list more than the potential of Judy (Garland)? ?

No surprise to hear Nick Suban was delisted given the Freo rebuild phase.

I always rated him even as a youngster in the Vic-Country under 18s. He is strong, skilled and good pace.  Very much in Hibberd mould. Fell out of favour in 2017 and whilst he got back, obviously Freo are cleaning house.

Not sure he fits the Dees needs but I still reckon at 27 that he has plenty of good footy left.

If there is no specific need for a particular player or type of player and the list we have already has players as good as those dfa's, I would pass on them and go to the draft, where with luck we could find a gem.

We don't need to recruit for Casey and end up with more who are list cloggers and have to be paid out at the end of next year.

Gotta be tempted my Troy Menzel.  He's a dick, but he has talent to burn.

Agreed, i'd strongly consider him, even as a rookie. he has amazing talent, and played some good footy for Carlton. i think he's definitely worth consideration.

not many rookies come onto your list with the potential upside of Troy Menzel

Failure to establish at two clubs suggest to me it's an upside that is unattainable. Would rather we focused on new players than waste our time, resources and a space on the list on this type.

I think Henry Shade definitely deserves another crack at AFL. I was quite surprised to see him delisted.

Hartung a certainty to go to Lions I would think. Mullet will be another to find a home quickly. Mu guess is the Suns.

I would consider Shade, Suban, Crameri, Keeffe.

I'd like to suggest Todd Elton is worth a look. A fitness test and interviews to see if he's capable of fitting the Melbourne mould.

Predominantly as cover for other talls, but also to help split focus away from weidemann in the vfl so that he can improve his one on one contests

His price is right, as is his profile for list structure.

Perspective i think Nash, he was definitely well on the way or already there at Carlton. Kicked 26 goals in 2014 - his second year

Traded to the Crows and found himself behind Betts, Cameron and so on.

I think there is still more talent there with Menzel than anyone else in the delisted free agent pool, and i'd argue probably beyond pick 50 in what is a shallow draft pool this year.

he'd come in on base wage, or even on the rookie list. little to no investment with some upside.

Just a technical question. If a team adds a delisted free agent to their list, does that count as one of the three mandatory draft selections? I realise we have four spots to fill at the moment so adding one delisted free agent still allows us to comply. But what if we wanted to add two?

Don't think it does, but remember we're upgrading Joel Smith which does make up 1 of the draft selections. So I think we could take 2 delisted free agents and still use 2 draft picks (plus Smith). Personally none of those delisted strike me as must haves, I'd prefer to go to the draft.

Talk to Cats supporters and the two players they "hang out to dry" are Motlop and Menzel.  And although Motlop is gone, there are no tears from the cattery.

Cats supporters attitude to these two make Demons supporters appear soft (vis a vis Watts).

Menzel is seen as defensively soft and a front runner, with no ticker.

Wrong Menzel Ernest, but still applies

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
